  1. That’s a fair statement. Those books commanded a material premium.
  2. IIRC, this book was at $9K+ just a year ago, before jumping the shark, like many key bronze/copper/moderns did
  3. Kinda morbid what an artists death does to the value of their work
  4. Yeah, the Giffen/Maguire JLA/JLI stuff was great, and while prices for pages from the original series are very strong, likewise their subsequent series of Formerly Known as the Justice League, and I Can’t Believe it’s Not the Justice League. Prices are climbing quickly. full disclosure: I do not own any pages
  5. Malvin, a few notes on the Maguire results: 1. The page from issue 5 was the strongest of the Maguire offerings in the auction. Up until this issue, Guy Gardener was a loud mouthed pest at the best of times, often challenging Batman’s leadership. Well, you just knew that Batman wasn’t gonna put up with Guy’s nonsense much longer so he baited Guy into a confrontation on this page, which immediately precedes Batman knocking Guy stone cold to the ground with one punch! The ‘One Punch’ became a running gag for several issues and is highly memorable even today. 2. These Maguire covers rarely turn up for sale in public, and this one plays on a woman’s indecision/changing her mind during moving day, as the JLI moved headquarters in this issue. Far from the best cover, but you may have to wait a decade for another opportunity at a cover 3. page 7 - I have no explanation for this very strong result. I was thinking maybe 8K at the top end.
  6. For all the folks thinking/hoping/praying for cracks in the OA market…keep looking! results for this auction were strong all-around
  7. Congrats on your win! Assuming you picked up the Shelly Meyer piece? otherwise, this is quite an expensive auction, with very healthy results
  8. This morning’s OA lot count is 783, down from its earlier peak of 830. Thankfully, the items On my short list haven’t been removed from this auction…yet!
  9. Harry was a good guy. I was at his house buying Cerebus 1-10 just 3 days before he passed away.

  11. The October show definitely used to be a worthwhile show to drive 3.5 hrs from Toronto. Was a fun road trip with some buddies, and we'd spring for a hotel room overnight because we couldn't get through all of the comic boxes in a day. And even though this was the smaller, Oct show, I still remember they had a decent guest list (Don Rosa, Erik Larsen, Vince Locke, etc) so there was sketches and OA to be had. Usually drove back with a few sketches, a few pages of OA and 2-3 long boxes of comics each. But as you've stated, the show is a mere shadow of its past glory. And unfortunately, their Spring show has dropped so much so fast that I actually felt sorry for dealers who decided to set up. I don't know anybody (collectors, dealers, etc) who went to that show, whereas the contingent from Toronto used to number 40-50 people per year.
  12. Very pleased to see he was caught. Looks like he's in his 40's. Geez, this old and he is stealing comic books? What's wrong with this guy?
  13. Full disclosure...I used to own that MTU 79 page many years ago.
  14. Long story short, $6K for the strong Mooney influenced ASM page with Spidey in only one panel was a solid result, but does not indicate a crack in the market. If it went for under $4K, then I would agree that it’s a crack. the Byrne/Austin MTU page is from a highly coveted story and would sell for quite a bit more than the ASM page
  15. Can’t stand thieving scum! Cops should have handcuffed him to a urinal and let people relive themselves on him!
  16. You make Miller out to be Methuselah, but in reality he’s 65 years old. There are numerous contemporaries who’s drawing skills haven’t declined anywhere near the extent to which Miller’s has. And I’ll also say that for most folks, 35 is not middle-aged.
  17. 1. This book is being sold off this year one page at a time through various auctions so you’ve got more supply of pages from this issue now vs the past 20 years 2. I’m not sure how much Byrne did on this issue because so many pages from 189/190 seem to indicate Mooney contribution > Byrne 3. there’s just one panel with Spidey given the above, what were you expecting it to sell for?
  18. He is the son of the once mighty odds-maker and TV personality, Jimmy ‘the Greek’ Snyder
