HERITAGE November comic and art auction

$750K is low for the Hulk 340 cover. hulk 340 page getting more than any other single McFarlane page is highly unlikely -
After falling 50% from its peak high, it appears as though 9.8 Blues with white pages are inching their way upwards again. Not sure if this is a temporary blip due to the announced McFarlane signing as it's too soon to tell if there will be ongoing upwards momentum, but prices sure seem to be rising..

They added a lot of guests over the past two weeks, and that makes for a decent guest list, but its too little too late to change plans. I really don't understand why they waited so long to reveal the additional guest, but it was a poor business decision on their part. -

If so, then when will we see this global recession crash the OA market? -

We don’t have to wait two months… The HA International OA auction ends Oct 2nd. since everyone is saying this will be a global recession, we can fully expect the OA price crash to be reflected in this action. Right? 😉 -

There is a world of difference between Capullo’s Batman and this ‘thingamabob’ by Miller the Capullo cover was purchased by a collector in Southern Ontario, Canada. I don’t recall if he paid the full asking price on the cover, but he did bring it to one of the OA get togethers in Toronto -

Your collecting style: Eras? Artists? Titles? A mix?
jjonahjameson11 replied to Dr. Balls's topic in Original Comic Art
Interesting question. started by collecting free sketches of Spidey, then commissions of Spidey. had some very bad experiences with creators on some commission results and switched to collecting Spidey pages under $50, which quickly escalated to $100, then $500, and then $5,000 pause for 1yr to clear my head, return to vintage comic book purchases and then back to OA. Focus was different this time: picked up nice pieces from The Studio artists, which depleted my funds rather quickly. Took a 6 month break to replenish my war chest and returned to the hobby buying McSpidey pages and covers from ASM 220-260. I remember outbidding Moy and Burkey a few times when ASM covers from this era would appear on eBay 🤣 This is also the timeframe where I picked up most of my Keown artwork. bored again, but intrigued by the success of the Batman Animated style so I went all-in and picked up OA by Timm, Cooke and Templeton. I was done after a few dozen covers which I mostly traded to other collectors. then I decided to collect strip art, with specific focus on Williamson’s Secret Agent Corrigan and Salinas’ Cisco Kid. Got enough examples and went back to collecting Spidey art. Picked up hundreds of pages each from Romita Jr and Bagley. Along the way, I was able to pick up a Romita Sr and Ditko page or three. bored again so I changed focus towards 2 or 3 major OA purchases per year. This is my present course. -

I can honestly say that this is one of the very few examples I’ve seen where the colourized version is better than the Black and white original. -

Yes, but he found a method whereby he was able to ink much faster than he could pencil and made more money with, ahem, volume inking. if you do a search on Vinny’s career, you will be able to find numerous articles and excerpts about how he did this. -

It can work out very well on higher dollar items of $50K+. HA gives you three months to pay interest free via real dollars cash, charge, account balance). after purchasing a piece from an auction, the dealer may re-price the item at whatever markup they decide, but several of them offer you interest free time payment for an extended duration, and they may also be willing to do partial trade. So, if you’ve been sitting on some art for a while, and the dealer is willing to ‘deal’ in some trade, then they OA purchase from the dealer may be more in reach than an outright purchase from HA. -

Colletta pencilled for Atlas in the 50’s and he was actually decent, especially on the Romance titles. I guess he shifted to inking because he was able to make more money at it. Janson took over pencilling from Miller on DD for a little while, and he also pencilled the 1st story arc of the Punisher’s 1st monthly series -
