  1. In my case it was always me simply because its the role I wanted to play and the others wanted to be the players. I loved being the DM or Storyteller or whatever iteration it was for that game. I loved spending my time creating a backstory, NPCs (Non player characters) for the group to interact with, peppering my world with little nuances. What it really boils down to is a creative process that was satisfying to me. Not to mention I actually love reading the games rules and accessories like Scottie reads technical manuals. I spent hours reading and rereading the rules I could quote just about every little thing. Its really a collaborative effort though...your players have to be involved but there are tricks to getting them involved if they are reluctant or shy. Im a gaming dork. Exactly the same for me. I wanted the role, volunteered for it, and was successful. I devised a great campaign, have had multiple players play through it, and all enjoyed it. The greatest challenge D&D faced was technology replaced face to face gaming: getting the players together became such a struggle. Loving this thread, and oh yes I will contribute to it.
  2. I have been interested in picking up a copy of this book. I will have to wait until I have some funds, but my interest is of course because I have worked / still work as an artist. Love that cover. Great pick up Darth. We have such similar taste in books
  3. Nice!!! Where did this one come from? After FAC 20, this is probably Story's most well known cover! DM 19 has always been a favorite of mine. This particular copy I picked up a few years back from a fellow collector in a trade. Extremely nice!
  4. Wow, very cool! Never seen that cover before. Hard to tell what exactly is going on there. Looks as if they are in a diving bell of some sort and being gased. Also I see test tubes in the background as if they are in some giant's laboratory! Looks like a Christmas tree ornament to me! And those people are stuck inside it. Awesome cover
  5. definitely my fave book in the Vault of Horror run. Nice copy!
  6. Board member is seller. I was offered the Black Cat 50 for basically around what it sold for on Ebay. Lovely books, but out of my price range unfortunately. I will have to make due with my 4.0
  7. Quite excited about my recent pre code horror purchase. I have been looking for a copy of this book for around 8 months. Finally found a copy for sale and I am very pleased with it. Presents well!

  10. Yes I am still taking commissions, I think to be able to get a sketch CGC signature series the sketch has to be completed at a convention that has a CGC booth correct?
  11. That Black Cat Mystery 50 is easily my favorite cover of all time. The look on his face is absolutely priceless, even though that tiny bar of radium could never make that happen. I'm still searching for a 8.0 or higher One day I will likely upgrade it, I love the cover to. Also love Tomb of Terror 15, similar fate to the guy's face on that cover as well. ( my current avatar is from the Tomb of terror ) Took me awhile to even find the 3.0 I have. I seem to find 2.5's-3.0 or 9.4's of this book, nothing in between. I myself would be very happy with a 6.0 maybe a 7.0.
  12. As I continue to browse all the wonderful threads of books in the golden age section of the boards my want list continues to grow.
  13. I never used to collect golden age books. I was a zombie of Marvel comics from 1965-1980, the era I collected when I was a kid. Recently ( Dec 2009 ) I made my first ever golden aged purchase which was this Tomb of Terror 1: Once I got the book I found I really liked it, the image on the cover to the feel of the book. I have since been hooked on Golden aged books, moreso the pre-code horror but not limited to that genre. Recent pre-code purchases:
  14. I also grabbed these books: I am definitely HOOKED on these golden aged books!
  15. Very nice page. The use of photo-copied text glued onto the page is an interesting idea for my own recreations. With some work in a paint program the text boxes could be cleaned up well enough that the print out would look real clean. Might try that on the next piece I do to see the result.
  16. Vampire portrait, board member wanted his wife drawn how I thought she would look as a vampire. Un-used sketch for Zombie story published in Deaf Mute Comics Sketch cover for a Surfer Lover boardie Recreations: These were HUGE! 16 x 24" and a couple of regular 11 x 17 sized: My client for the FF 45 also got it done in color:
  17. Maybe it was an exactly similar copy that was bought and sold on Ebaywondercon
  18. Kudos to Point Five for the great Marvel Mystery 33 he sold me.
  19. Agreed, I did several deals with him and he was a good guy
  20. Latest pieces for sale: Black Cat Mystery 50 $140.00 Detective 31 $120.00 G.I.C. 80 $140.00 Tales to Astonish 93 $120.00 Hulk 181 Cover $120.00 Midnight Snack $140.00
  21. Thanks! I also tried for the issue 5 they had but fumbled and bumbled when I placed my bid and confirmed the system said my bid needed to exceed the minimum and I thought I had and I went backwards and hit submit again and well...you snooze you lose. They graded the number 1 as a 6.0, but to me based on the pictures I would go higher. Will see once I have it in hand.
