True, but you're focusing on outcome rather than intent.  The intent was clearly to hide two color-breaking spine tics (hence, restoration -- most likely graded C-1).  The  result was a massive fail.  :tonofbricks:

whoever did it, did those two spots and realized their mistake and stopped. Had they done a "better" job the entire spine would have been touched and other areas of the book.

  2. I wouldn't buy that slab either.

The Mycomicshop book does present the best, and if you buy direct from them it is cheaper than the Ebay listing.

My 2c Ultimately I think if your grading skills are excellent you could buy a raw book in nicer shape for less than the cost of the cgc slabbed one that you submit yourself for pressing/cleaning/grading. The book isn't rare. If you live in a location that has comic shows attend them and look for a nice copy of the book. If internet buying stick to VF+

It's only been out for a week, but I'm still surprised it hasn't blown up over here, yet.

My apologies if it's been already been posted, but I could not find anything on it when I used the search function.

    THIS IS :censored:ING AMAZING! PERFECT!

I've needed this for years and never knew it until I saw it.

Thanks! I will definitely check this out

If you use Mylar sleeves without backing boards, you will eventually crease or cut into a cover.  Guaranteed.  :preach:

Did this. Putting my Shock Suspenstories #6 F+ condition book back into the mylar and it caught the back cover and sliced it from bottom to about 3/4 of the back cover before I noticed.

I will never use those open top mylars ever again because of it. Have a comic partner that sometimes uses them, and I change every single one of them to a mylite2 when I find them in our boxes.

Yes agreed. It had a lot of potential, but they really hammed it up too much. The scenes jumped around too much.. silly stuff.     Although I did find the opening battle scene with Thor VS the aliens very funny

I honestly didn't even like that.

The GoTG ask the guy they called Thor for help to fight the aliens and he proceeds to pluck Stormbreaker out of the planted pot it is in to shove it between his legs to fly to the battle, followed by the "Jean-Claude-Van Damme" pose against the 2 rocket speeder things, then the collapsing temple bit done for the "laugh", then the "ohh look at those" awful dialogue by the guy they called Thor upon receipt of the annoying goats as a reward for help. That gets you to about 15 minutes in to the film.

So, you know they already "introduced" him, right?   Post credit scene of Thor Love and Thunder?  You say "fully" so I assume that's what you mean, but I doubt his next appearance, if he gets one, will be especially grand.  They were setting up some kind of "revenge" angle.  Which, they just did with Gorr.

I would also say he's already kind of messed up by association considering they way they portrayed his father, Zeus, in that film.  Zeus as portrayed by Russell Crowe was just so bad.

everything about Love and Thunder was extremely bad.

Especially when paired with someone that legit can sing, Lady Gaga.  I'm not a fan of her music (don't like it, don't hate it) but she has some pipes on her for sure.

Definitely. I am the same as you, don't like it don't hate it, but I definitely recognize the ability. Watched a James Corden video with Lady Gaga called Carpool Karaoke and it was a demonstration of her singing ability.

I hope that the lesson the studios are learning is this - leave the big screen to A-list properties and put the B and C types in as support characters once in a while or feature them in streaming shows.

In addition I hope they have learned you need to put out a very high quality product. Very well written otherwise it will flounder like The Flash. Is the Flash an A-list property?

This movie has been so huge you know the studios are going to do what they always do.  I am sure there is a scramble to get/find the rights to things like "Jem", or "Bratz", or other things like that.

Sigh, unfortunately you are correct. Marvel will likely push forward whatever product they have and I think they will put out She-Hulk season 2 and likely expect The Marvels to be a resounding worldwide success making the assumption that the same audience that flocked to the Barbie movie will flock to their stuff.

Well, it was about what I expected, maybe a little worse.

While I appreciated that they were going for something a little different in this movie with the emphasis on "family" and the hero family's overall involvement in the story, it got a bit much for me at times.

      Hide contents

I did not think the Grandma secretly being some kind of revolutionary and mowing down people with the machine cannon was quite as hysterical as the filmmakers seemed to think it was.  Also, didn't like the way the suit worked/didn't work conveniently as the plot required.  The fact it literally could fight without him and act independently of him (and was actually more effective when it was acting on it's own than when trying to take his directions) begged the question what was the point of his being in the suit anyway?  Also, villain master plan was, once again, quite silly.

I did wonder about the history of the Blue Beetle they referenced in the film.  I know nothing about the character, so I can't say how well they did it or how it might resonate with someone who knows the character(s) from the comics, but I found the backstory that they did explain somewhat confusing.

I agree. Perhaps my own fault for knowing nothing about the character but then a well told story should help me get me up to speed instead of confusing me.

  11. Hi,

There is a lot that goes into grading a card. To your visual eye you think the cards are mint but then you will need to look at:

    -edges of the card

    -surface of the card

    -corners

    -centering (needs to be exact)

    -front and back

-time frame to send in a card have it graded and returned to you versus the change in value of the market. There was a very brief period in time where the 199x Impel Marvel cards were worth something, not any more.

-value of the graded card by the various companies that grade: which company tends to be the best value?

A card fresh out of a pack you just opened may not be a 9.0 and is very likely even lower

You have to hit above 9 to make the Marvel cards worth considering and even then they most likely are not worth the risk in paying to get the card graded hoping to hit a 10.

If you are truly interested in this industry you could buy a few graded examples of cards (cheap ones) so you can learn what may make a card high enough grade to consider sending in.

Here is a link to a sold 1991 Thanos psa 9 graded card as an example:

  12. I started buying comics when I was 5, and began buying comics with my own money earned from a paper route at age 8. Back then it was the book you found and held in your hand.

I quit collecting in 1990, but returned in 2004 and at that time you could find books on the internet. I prefer to buy the book in hand, but as I gravitated to the books that are not as easily found sometimes you have to buy online.

I am definitely a "thrill of the hunt" type.

  13. so I saw Blue Beetle, I fell asleep before he obtained the scarab. I awoke from my slumber and saw I had missed a bit because he had the scarab at that point but as I really had no idea what was going on I tried to just enjoy it. Overall it was "just there" for me, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone nor do I have any desire to watch it again.

If the film is very good:

    1. I don't fall asleep viewing it

    2. I have an interest in viewing it again and often can watch the film multiple times.

    Blue Beetle is one -and-done

    This.

I think representation matters - and is important - but story matters more.

And hopefully there will be a time in the not-too-distant future where Hispanic representation will be so commonplace that it will hardly be mentioned.

Example: One of the *many* reasons I loved Succession is Kendall's hedge fund college buddy Stewie - who is gay.

We don't find out he's gay until his 4th or 5th appearance - when he and Kendall are talking business at a nightclub while his (male) date is sitting beside him.

And then I don't think it's ever mentioned again until either the last or second-to-last episode of Season 4.

A generation ago it would have been a big deal for even such a supporting character to be gay. And HBO would have milked it in their advertising.

Today - I'm sure there are plenty of people who watched Succession and didn't realize Stewie was gay.

Because it was like 6th or 7th on the list of his most important characteristics and importance to the story.

How it is done when done well
