  1. Oh! That's a nice looking 7.0 too! Did you buy it raw at some point? Did you know it was a Crippen when you bought it?
  2. Good eye up there. It is the same book. There is writing on the letter O in the same exact spot. Top edge is the same. Little black dot under the R same spot. Thanks to Heritage for keeping archives and allowing us to zoom right in on the books. That white chip or scuff is not in the holder. Right where the chip is on the 5.5 there is supposed to be some red over the black, 2 spikes of red stand out clearly. They are gone in the 5.5 holder but like you're pics show they're back on the 7.5. One possibility is that the white chipping on the 5.5 was not chipping but some kind of matter that was removed, but I don't think so. I would think it would be the " top front cover chip out" in the old notes. I don't know.
  3. The Made in Japan part is kind of weird. I don't think Japan recovered from the war and started making products for export until the mid 50's. Neat Item though. Most likely no older than 1954. Whataya think?
  4. Great sluething from you guys, Especially the indication that the printed ELDON's were written by ET. I'm out I think. I'm looking at mainly the cursive Eldon from the last picture Frisco just posted which we know are Hamanns. Looking at the cursive one on the USA's and the True Comics I can not see a difference. I want to believe they are almost all from Tuffy but those True Comics are throwing me off. No one seems to know exactly when and where these books began to surface(or do they and I missed it?). CGC says they started surfacing in the "Late 80's". Doesn't help any as both men passed away by then. ET in 78 and EH in 87. Wait, maybe I'm back in. Does EH put a loop on the top of his letter E on the TRue Comics? Looking here on 3 forms of the name the only thing my eyes can detect is that the the cursive capital letter E's are different. http://comicpedigrees.com/pedigrees.php#ELDON
  5. Mine too. Perfect depiction of good old Jay. Not a very expensive book just doesn't come around very often.
  6. Ok I believe you, just for my knowledge where do you find "prices realized" on the website? I look at books that have ended and they say "Sold on" followed by the date and price. Same as they look a few seconds after the auction ends. If a book wasn't paid for how would they stipulate that when looking at a past auction? I have never seen an auction that has ended later stating not paid and I'm sure that a small percentage were not paid. So how do we know?
  7. I like the early Shelly serious Flash much better than later renditions, same with Green Lantern. Been wanting to upgrade this to blue for a long long long time.
  8. Oh boy back to square one. Thanks for taking the time to find those . So Eldon Hamann also wrote his name in cursive, and even his last name on some. As did Eldon Tuffenstamer, at least on that one book Red Fury posted. And from what I can tell the name Eldon looks the same on both, the E's and N's are identical. Oh this is just nuts. No wonder nobody knows for sure. Does anyone know for sure?
  9. Well.......we know that Tuffy wrote his name in full name in cursive on some books so check that off. Unless someone finds a Cursive Eldon with an Iowa address on it we now almost conclusively that all the cursive copies are Tuffy's. As I asked FriscoL , but maybe you know, do the books with the Iowa address have the name only written as ELDON? If so I think that's all we need to know. 2 different Eldons are being put in 1 pedigree. If so no matter how inconvenient it may be this should be corrected and seperated from this point on into two pedigrees. The Hamann and the Tuffenstamer pedigrees.
  10. Hi, so that is Eldon Hamann from Iowa, well his dad John. Do you know or remember if the name written on the books with addresses was written as ELDON or in cursive?
  11. Very interesting. Are there other examples that have Tuffy written on them? Edit: Someone did post a pic of a cursive Eldon with his full name written on the back, so the cursive ones are definitely Tuffy's. Also the Eldon books whether cursive or block were never "discovered" and bought by someone all in one sale ( as far as we know) but "surfaced" here and there over the years right? Anyone remember the earliest time you saw a Cursive Eldon? Or if they first started showing up in Illinois where Tuffenstamer lived at the time of his passing? This may have been posted before but this is probably Tuffy. Passed at just 50 years old in 1978, wife 2 years later at 49, and daughter in 1994 at 42, or 43 years old, also in Illinois. https://ancestors.familysearch.org/en/KWZT-MQ6/eldon-m-tuffentsamer-1928-1978 If there are two Eldons it would be wrong to designate them into one pedigree........for the memory of both men. Sounds sentimental but that's but I think it's only right.
  12. Not always true. 10 years ago I had a plan to finish my Silver Age collection first, get that out of the way, and wait to concentrate on Golden Age once I'm done and I know more about it. Now I can't afford most of the ones I want. I think "you snooze, you lose" has much more truth to it.
  13. Yes that is true, It was tighter. In this example even the graders notes list more defects in 2000. Perhaps that means that in 2023 those defects were overlooked intentionally or not noticed at all. To be clear, I'm not making any insinuations of preferential treatment on this book as "judging by the cover" it does look better than a 5.5. Looks like it deserved an upgrade. It's gonna get lots of healthy bids fer sure.
  14. Yeah but the lack of a back cover scan could affect the price. Wait. Could? Will, that's better. Two full grades higher. Why can't I ever be that lucky. But looking at it now in the 5.5 holder on HA and it does look better than that. Maybe it deserved a bump, at least a full grade.
  15. Oh right, I thought there was another. Well I still think my theory that most of the upcoming ones may be from sales that never were paid is possible. More possible than someone who spent over a million big ones on books suddenly deciding to sell them all in one auction.
  16. I think that was the most expensive book of them all. Pretty sure it was the most expensive book of them all. That would make sense. Most of this whole promise lot could be from deadbeat bidders, not just one. It would make sense that if that's the case HA wait a year or so to put them up again so it looks like they're being re-sold instead of re-jects.
  17. I've got a feeling there's gonna be a nice showdown at the end and the price may get up to 120,000 or more.
  18. Simon was really on his best game in those months. I know he was doing a lot of interior work and he did the cover for Ken Detective Funnies Jan1940, But it was those two covers where he really proved he could roll with the big dogs. I would think by looking at these two that when took over doing the covers at Fox in May 1940 that he must have studied Fine and Eisner's work beforehand. I see a strong similarity. And I think I told you already seeing your 9.4 is what inspired me to go after the next #10 that came up. So Im'a thanking you for that.
  19. Thanks!. The cgc holder helps a lot. Book looks almost 3-D. Pretty sure Joe did the inking as well on this cover. I think this and Science Comics 4 are two of his best covers, if not the two best. Both May 1940. When he took over the reins at Fox from Mr. Fine. Pretty big task.
  20. Well if it is a 2.0 its a nice looking 2.0. Great color. Other than the tape it looks real nice.
  21. Back from cgc. Previously a 3.0 graded by the other guys. Not too bothered that it came back a full grade lower even though I think it should be a 3.0. Just happy to have one.
