  1. I don't think he's aware that not all GA books cost a fortune. Thousands of GA books that cost equal, the same, or less than lots of Silver and up keys.
  2. This is one of those topics where that little voice inside keeps saying ,"Stay out of it, stay out of it". Another guy here who (whom?) I respect a great deal stated most of the books were graded 3 to 5 incriments higher. I think that is an exaggeration. Just focusing on the high grade stuff, less than 1%? Maybe that might be an exaggeration also? I compared a lot of them as they appeared on HA to other pedigrees and high grade copies, Church examples included in the same grade range. I know you guys have seen a lot more than me, even held them in your hands ungraded so you know better than me fer sure. It just looked to me that an amount, be it a fair, moderate or large amount is matter of opinion but at least some were clearly over-graded. If they were over-graded and done so intentionally we'll never know for sure but we can sure think it a possibility.
  3. I caught my 5,0 at the beginning of the drop. In fact it was the first one to drop below 20 in a year and a half. Before the past sales were 23 to 26k not counting e bay because who really knows at the place. The one I got went for a few thousand under 20. I was surprised I was the high bidder especially with the pedigree status and what it had been selling for. One of the rare times I think I did something right.
  4. Great post! Honestly I wasn't surprised. I was thinking around 3k because it's an awesome unique cover and you never see one above mid grade for sale.
  5. Nice compilation. I'm surprised the TAR 32 4.0 sold for nearly the same as the 6.5 Authentic Police 6 . Without checking past sales Phantom Ladies 19 and 20 look like good deals
  6. I understand. I guess my grading standards have evolved over time into cgc standards. Meaning i've seen so many graded books that their criteria and mine are the same. So when I submit my expectations are I think realistic and for the most part accurate. Past few years I or perhaps I should we have been seeing so many over and undergraded books that the gauge is broken for having realistic expectations when submitting and personally I have submitted my last book for grading. And this was it. Graded 3.0 by the other guys, resubbed uncracked to cgc. They graded it a 2.0. Looks at least 3.0 to me based on the thousands of other books I've seen . At least it will come home in a nicer holder. Sorry if I'm off topic
  7. I can't remember a time I was pleasantly surprised with the grade I was given for a submitted book. At best they've come back what I thought they would. More often than not less. Sometimes I even think they have it out for me, like I'm on some list, but maybe I'm just being paranoid. I hate seeing obviously overgraded books. However it seems the majority bid on the grade and not the book, at least from what I've seen.
  8. It's Captain Science 4, unless someone else did it before, but it came out a few years before those two. Here's a 9.4 that just sold last week . I think the other 9.4 belongs to a guy in Texas. https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/captain-science-4-youthful-magazines-1951-cgc-nm-94-off-white-pages/a/122305-19287.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515
  9. The original artist who painted Baker's inspiration in 1947 to me at least was inspired by Jane Russell's face. That's who I'm seeing at least. https://comics.ha.com/itm/memorabilia/miscellaneous/liberty-magazine-january-1947-paul-hunter-1947-condition-vg/a/40190-81196.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515
  10. That is a really cool cover. Good catch on the print run mistake. No publisher listed.......seems odd, They don't know?
  11. Looks 7.0 to me. Do people even look at the actual book before bidding anymore or just take cgc's word for it? https://www.ebay.com/itm/204227460292
  12. Oh no. No no no no no. It's just one of the big books from the first round of the original Promise extravaganza, now offered again in the upcoming auction. That's all.
  13. Great post up there. Another book that would make for a cornerstone in any advanced Golden Age collection which sold in the first round of Promise books coming back to auction is this one. I wish the best for the seller. https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/eerie-1-the-promise-collection-pedigree-avon-1947-cgc-nm-92-cream-to-off-white-pages/p/7339-166071.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515
  14. That is seriously awesome. The art, the color, the condition. So exactly what is that? I thought it was a centerfold from a newspaper at first. Was it cut to that size? Such a cool thing to have
  15. No robots inside, just a cool cover. https://readcomiconline.li/Comic/Action-Comics-1938/Issue-36?id=25034
  16. Interrrresting. It's still on the CL exchange. Wouldn't be enough time for the high bidder not to pay. It was listed on CL the same day as sold on e bay. Now why would someone sell a book on e bay then list the same book somewhere else for double the same day? Hmmmmm. Could it be if someone offers more than 3,550 on CL in the next few days that it will suddenly become lost or stolen? No, no one would do that.
  17. I think lots of people had Bat-Man Fever at the time, right after the 2.2 miliion Bat 1 sale.
  18. Nice puns . Well those were apparently just way overbid the first time. I did some checking, this is the first non hero book over 90k to re-appear after their intitial sales in 2021. The others being Phantom Lady 17 9.6 456k, " " 23 9.4 108k, " " 14 9.6 90k, Startling 49 9.6 132k. Suspense 11 9.8 132k, and Eerie 1 9.2 90k. I don't think any of those would reach the mark of their original sale at this time. Mask 1 as we all know is one of the most desired book there is, so yeah it wil be interesting to see how close it comes or maybe even surpass the other sale. I think it might.
  19. This just arrived. Calling Dr. Love,Calling Dr. Love, Come right away. What's the story of Nancy? I've seen her name on a few early 50's Romance books.
  20. I doubt it too but it will be interesting to see how close it comes. Single highest grade so you never know. One of 7 non-hero Promise books to reach at least 90k btw.
  21. Mask 1 is coming back. https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/mask-comics-1-the-promise-collection-pedigree-rural-home-1945-cgc-vf-85-off-white-to-white-pages/p/7339-166072.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515
  22. What a beautiful book(). And a nice copy compared to most I've seen btw. What do you think was going through his head (pun intended) when he created that cover? Maybe just trying to be as far out there as can be or maybe there is a connection between the deceased and the drooling human headed insect creature. Maybe like The Fly there is a human with insect head out there somewhere. Help me, help me........figure it out. Bernard lived for over 40 years after he made this, he must have been asked many times what the heck is going on. Creepy stuff.
