  1. We'll never know (About FF 50). Everyone there at the time is gone I believe. Most likely that's just the way Jack did that one. According to this page no art from 48, 49, or 50 has surfaced. https://kirbymuseum.org/blogs/dynamics/2011/03/17/ff-48-splash-or-a-forgery/ Lost? Destroyed? Being hoarded? Or hiding somewhere nobody knows about?
  2. I wasn't really referring as much to the background color but instead to the fact that its just a solid color background with nothing in it.. Just saying very few Kirby covers were like that.
  3. I don't know. I guess we'll never know. Its just that in every Kirby FF cover there's all kinds of stuff going on but in this one nothing. So good point, maybe he didn't choose that background. I don't know if the original art exists.
  4. Looks really nice for the grade. Color, centering! Another thing about FF 48 is those legs on The Watcher. I bet he could probably squat like 650. As far as FF 50 I think the Surfer looks really good. He's got that comin at ya effect happening. And yeah the Johnny goes to college box is no fun, but I wonder why Jack went with that solid dark brown background. Its not a common background color either. Maybe it was a deadline situation. Or I wonder if he had another or other backgrounds that he decided not to use.
  5. I think the cover is pretty cool. Everyone is looking up in the sky like " What the heck is that?" Even Thing looks frightened. Plus the sky's all orange and on fire. You know something's happening up there and it ain't good. And the Watcher's like "Beware Galactus! Devourer of Planets!" And I'm like Mom give me 12 cents I gotta buy this comic!
  6. Yeah that's right. I noticed that on my CGC FF 48 (grade date 10/2003, didn't realize it was that old) it says "1st appearance of Silver Surfer and Galactus". The word cameo is not mentioned. At some point during the production of the previous generation slabs they added the cameo part. I'm probably wrong about this but I think I remember NOT seeing the words "1st Full appearance of Galactus" on FF 49 slabs, but I can't find any examples like that. Up until recently I always considered FF 48 the 1st appearance of both and didn't realize the slabs said differently. Don't know how I missed that.
  7. yeah that and he copied someone else's work and called it his own.
  8. I just noticed that a restored CGC 8.0 trimmed AF 15 supposedly sold on ebay for 100K in December. I don't believe that one bit. Will that jack up the book value? I mean the book value of the comic.
  9. To me it is plagiarism. I have yet to agree with any argument calling it otherwise.
  10. At one point I had almost every Marvel Silver to Mid Bronze Age key issue in about mid grade condition give or take. All raw comics. In fact I had full runs or near full runs of most superhero series up until the mid 1970's. Most of my collection ran from around 1962 through 1976. I sold all my big money comics about 12-14 years ago. About 5 years ago I started collecting again but this time only graded copies and I compiled a want list of about 200 books (Starting with Showcase #8 and ending with X-Men 101). Since then I have been selling my runs and using the profits to buy graded copies for my want list which includes DC comics as well. But those huge Marvel keys from 1961-63 are gone forever....I'll probably never be able to buy them again.
  11. Thanks for that recommendation, I've already started looking into it.
  12. 51? Best Thing Cover Ever. And tell me more about this Apotheosis
  13. 48's are selling for about 2,500 in 7.0 and 1,500 in 6.0. That seems like a very big difference to me for those grades. I believe also that in the past say 2 years a lot more people are starting to collect, and some of these people have lots o' money and are just going ape feces with their bidding. It only takes two of them to drive the price way overboard. At least that's what I've been noticing on the auctions I am losing lately. Quick question please, would you rather have one FF 48 CGC 7.0 or one of each 48, 49, 50 in 6.0?
  14. Hi everybody. I've got a FF 45 6.0 to sell. Price is $300.00. 1st takes it. Also a Marvel Spotlight 6 CGC 9.2 125.00 Paypal or personal check. I'll pay boxed priority shipping. US only. I'll ship next day and provide tracking. Message me with any questions. Thanks.
  15. Wow I guess that was Stan who wrote that, or maybe Roy Thomas.
  16. Here are 2 that just came back from getting new holders. Hooray for me. Took me about 5 years to find and finally nab this Spotlight 2, very elusive.
  17. Nice List. Good Work. So is this a list of most all Marvel Silver Age Comics which sell for at least 1K in 8.0? I don't think Sub-Mariner 1 sells for quite that much however. Perhaps Silver Surfer 4 would be an appropriate replacement? Or JIM 89?
  18. Yeah it probably did warp it. Shame, it cost 33.00 to get a re-holder plus the cost to ship it to them. On the bright side those new slabs are sweet. I'd like to get all my 2nd gen slabs re-holdered.
  19. Maybe you can ask your PO to keep it there for pick up if there is a chance they'll be outside all day.
  20. Unreal. I was just thinking about this because I got a slab in the mail today from comiclink via fed-ex and it was in the teens today. It was outside for no more than 20 minutes but then again how warm can the back of a fed-ex or a PO truck be plus I believe the comic came from Maine. The slab I got was a current generation one and it looks fine (Warlock #1 9.2 hehe). But I don't know Xeno, seems to me that if a slab was outside in below freezing temperature long enough for it to actually freeze then yes it probably can damage the comic. How does it look? What Generation slab is it?
  21. I don't see many surprises in the future as far as Silver and Bronze go. We all know who's who and what's what at this point. The current comics with value will continue to rise slowly and even the non key issues, especially Silver and early Bronze will do the same.
  22. So an 8300 works with windows 10? That is good to know for future reference. Thanks
