  1. I received notification that HA is about to charge sales tax in TN as well. Will HA show the sales tax cost added to your “next bid” value on the live auction’s button? That would help if they did.
  2. As mentioned upthread, here's the link to the LA Times article about Glen Gold: http://www.latimes.com/books/la-ca-jc-glen-david-gold-20180627-story.html To add one more to the list, David Mandel was featured a while back in the New York Times: https://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/07/fashion/mens-style/david-mandel-comic-book-art-star-wars-veep.html and finally Chris Caira talks about his Brian Bolland collection on a podcast that focuses on all things Judge Dredd: http://megacitybookclub.blogspot.com/2018/01/57-gaze-into-fist-of-dredd.html of course all three of these gentlemen are also interviewed by Felix: http://www.felixcomicart.com/podcast.asp
  3. Mike, appreciate how you take ownership of your missteps. I believe a lot of people think being an artist rep would be cool... for those people read this thread. One can only imagine how difficult it must be to keep the commission train on the tracks, especially when you rep a number of artists and have a large number of requests in the queue.
  4. Take your time Felix, we will be here when you return. I think your knowledge, enthusiasm and playfulness make your guests feel at ease and results in a warm free flowing conversations the pulls us all in and makes us feel like we are sitting right beside y'all... I feel like many of your guests are friends that I haven't met yet. So thanks for putting in the time and effort to pull all these shows together!
  5. BTW I'm looking forward to seeing more art from you. I REALLY like your Batman Catwoman piece, well done!
  6. For me the hand drawn pencils and hand drawn inks are the pinnacle of my interest. The more you inject technology the lesser the appeal, it's a sliding scale where at the bottom there is no interest at all... this would be fully digital original art print (1 of 1). If you do layouts on the computer, tape them to the back of a sheet of Bristol board and then turn on the lightbox and draw your tightened pencils and inks by hand. That method would be a nice compromise allowing for computer assist, but the piece would still be all hand drawn, and for me, it would not lessen the value of the art.
  7. I think one thing you have to consider in today market is today's high prices make collectors sell pieces that they bought without the intention to flip to acquire a larger piece. Often it gives the appearance of a flip, but it wasn't the initial intent. I think you have to let pieces go knowing that they may not stay with the new owner very long. Selling and trading are the only way for many to stay active in the hobby and so the movement of pieces is something that has to be accepted, and once a piece is gone from my collection I don't fret if it is quickly traded or sold.. it is, after all, our currency. When a new art opportunity presents itself, and you don't have funds in your bank... you can make a withdrawal from your comic art collection.
  8. If anyone should reap the profits off the art it should be the creator of the art. So I don’t disagree with Lee marking it up to the highest level someone would possibly pay. Why do we begrudge an artist for doing what we as collectors routinely do - selling our art for the highest possible price? If you went in to work and knew your boss would pay you double the amount of money that you are currently making... would you think, that is too much pay for what I am doing or would you take the money? I think he simply decided to work smarter not harder.
  9. Prices are too high, I am now out of the running for most of the 70s-80s art. The thing that is the oddest to me is there used to be a pecking order to artists page values, but look at any big auction and you see the lesser artists' work prices rapidly climbing towards the true giants. You just scratch your head and wonder who is paying so much for that artist's work. I think you all have seen it, if you haven't, you must be the guy buying expensive bad art ; )
  10. '99 was my entry point, when for some reason, I looked at the links on John Byrne's message board and saw a link to JB's art rep Jim Warden's site... my world hasn't been the same since! Dealing with Jim is a great way to get introduced to the hobby... what a nice guy. In 2003 I took a whole year off, had to stop cold turkey, because I kept getting carried away with Ebay art auctions. In 2004 I got back in, and have practiced a more restrained approached ever since. I'm glad I don't know what I missed out on during my year long hiatus.
  11. That last panel is so impressive (not to diminish the greatness of the other panels). What a terrific artistic pairing Kirby/Everett!
  12. Here’s a cool video about the exhibit: enjoy!
  13. Felix, Congrats on a very impressive sale. You only have a few unsold pieces left, the Fisher family must be very happy with the results! Seth's artwork is really incredible!
  14. Nice podcast! I hope Seth's pages fly off the site and generate a nice sum for his family. Glad you're helping out by setting up the art offering. With your involvement and clout in the hobby, I know it will be a huge success. Keep up the good work!
  15. I’m all for Felix pushing his guys’ art, he is a heck of an art rep and an asset to our hobby. I don’t mind having my eyes opened to his talent pool. If not for Felix selling his guys’ personalities and abilities on his podcasts, I wouldn’t have a dozen or so cool pages and more importantly his artists would not have my money! Felix is killing it with charity events, giveaways, special sales and compelling podcasts that expose his artists’ artwork and their personalities to a hungry group of collectors -many whom are now priced out of the old school art market (Byrne, Buscema, Kirby, Miller etc..) Keep up the good work Felix!
  16. Just added your column to my bookmarks, looking forward hearing your thoughts!!
  17. I love Byrne art, but $9200 for the good Iron Fist fight page seemed way high to me. Seems like his Iron Fist work always goes much higher than I expect.
  18. My Grail is in the gallery of Tom Coker... who has an outrageous collection and is a super nice guy as well! My favorite piece, from my favorite storyline, by my favorite artists John Byrne and Terry Austin!!! Tom's CAF gallery: http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerydetail.asp?gcat=4787
  19. While not a whale in the hobby, I would consider myself a bluegill... no scratch that, maybe a guppy.
  20. One trick pony here, I do love John Byrne art! from Tom Coker's collection: From Heritage's auction archives: From Paul DeDomenico's collection:
  21. You know the best thing about the podcast is the feel you get for the guests' personality. It is hard to get that to come through by reading their posts. I for one like the more free flowing coversations that ramble along, Felix will get them back on topic if it drifts too far. On Scott Free's interview Felix did a good job getting Scott back on topic while also giving him room to drift into his fun tales that might not be told if it was a tighter format.
