  1. I have been married 15 years. So the answer is no. I need a quart of margarita to be consumed for that to happen.
  2. I am not current on South Park, so I do not know what you are referring to. I did see Book of Mormon with my wife though.
  3. Do you think musicals in New York stay in business due to locals? Broadway would have half as many shows if that was the case. I see a show maybe once every 2 years. Date night with my wife or whatever. Granted, some folks see nearly every show that comes out, but they don't drive the business. No, many tourists and business visitors make it a point to see a show or two. Nyc has millions of them Also the notion that musical theatre is for 5th grade productions elsewhere is nonsense. There are many regional productions of these shows going on that have an avid following. It's just not something you're into I assume. Different people like different stuff. Some people cannot fathom watching an avengers movie.
  4. I actually have a bunch of original Archie OA from this era too. Funny stuff I wanted to frame, but gave up on that idea when I realized how much it would cost to frame entire 5-6 page stories. Ok, a little later, but I have the tarzan story from this one:.... Am I allowed to comment like this in a journal?
  5. Not to be a grumpster, but where on earth are you finding these 10 cent archies for $1? I haven't for years. I've been having to spend like $4-6 a pop lately. It's killing me! Anyway, I have to say, I have a very similar affinity for these goofy comics and pick them up when they don't break the bank. And I'm not even doing it under some sort of long term convoluted speculation play like most of my purchases, I just enjoy them for their corniness.
  6. Some bigger pics would help close the deal (and backs). From a mile away most of these books look better than the grades listed, but we can't tell from here.
  7. I do see the value to such detailed notes. I know they give 3.0 to GA with those issues all the time, did not think for BA, but maybe the rust is not as bad as it sounds.
  8. I was looking at a book that had 9.6-8 potential but I look down on the right corner and when I look at it in better light there is a bend or a ncb some thing, about 1/3 inch. What does this do to a 9.6? It might be worth a press (early 70s marvel horror).
  9. Maybe all these notes are why they charge $30 to grade these things. That's an essay.
  10. Rusty staples and water stain are killer. Surprised it got a 3.0. Looks good on my phone from a distance though.
  11. I guess my question was that aside from pretty much setting a price ceiling in the market for the stuff they have in stock, do folks here think they have so much of the market that it is genuinely impacting your sales? Of course, this isn't something that would have just happened this month.
  12. Well, I forgot to complete the sale on my basket of books when they did the 10% off, so I don't have much to say about their grading. I bought 1 book from them, it was advertised as low grade and that was accurate.
  13. "Too many 'prices' I see sold for on eBay are suspect and grading is almost always an issue unless you're dealing with a regular experienced seller you know you can trust." Actually, the prevalence of poor grading on ebay depresses the prices. Rarely do I see a book go for some crazy number where it looks like they inflated the grade or, heck, crazy numbers at all raw. Folks bidding on ebay assume an overgrade half the time.
  14. The consignment stuff mostly. Their regular prices are not terribly different than a lot of ebay store prices. They are not mile high.
  15. Maybe not. MCS accounts for roughly 5% of ebay sales in terms of completed sales (not $-volume or # of comics). OTOH, I have no idea why folks would buy off them on ebay when you can just go to their site for less, other than using ebay bucks. So is MCS potentially 10% of the online vintage comic market? Is that possible?
  16. I had a GA book ("Hit" comics, I forget the issue) with a dime size black yuck on the back cover that got a 6.5. The book was probably a 7.0-7.5 otherwise. But that was in the old days when folks thought they were lax with GA books. It was also highest in the census at a 6.5, but I figure that's because it was only a $200 book.
  17. I'd call it a 6.0. The chunk out of the bottom right makes me wonder what CGC would do with it.
  18. Does anyone think that my comic shop setting the limit for pricing does not help you? Sure, a lot of the time they are high enough for most everyone else to price below (or compete on higher grade raws), but if they say some book is worth $7... that's probably the top anyone is going to get for that book and, realistically, a lot of the rest of us probably need to price it at $4. true, they don't have everything in stock. Do we have any sense of whether their sales are down? Might people just be going to them for less guess work in terms of grades, etc. than thousands of individual ebay sellers? Fact is, when I price a book I look at completed sales and I look at them. I'm not going to price it anywhere near them if they have it in stock. Of course, that shouldn't change unit volume, but it may impact dollar volume.
  19. It could be that the next marvel movie seems a ways off and a lot of the comic related TV stuff is hitting a hiatus.
  20. I did ok earlier in the month of November, but the last 2 weeks were super dead. But I don't have a big presence.
  21. Hard to imagine but maybe he forgot it was the first Dr. Strange. I can see a beater 109 being sold for $10. I got a 2.5ish FF 52 from a place that sells comics, toys, cards, etc. For $5. It was sitting in their front display forever (but not faded). It even said "1st b.p.".. This is probably a little before the movie announcement, but its not like FF 52 wasn't worth a chunk. When I bought it it was probably a $80-100 book already.
  22. Hard to imagine but maybe he forgot it was the first Dr. Strange. I can see a beater 109 being sold for $10.
  23. I'm not so sure more fun is less common than action 1. There are a couple of copies of 28 up now. I just think there are raw copies out there.
  24. Did they make the walkers better after return of the Jedi? Cuz I remember ewoks taking those out with vines, rocks and coconuts.
