  1. 147 + 15 + 9.8s from the other guys sound like plenty, particularly now as it is worth like $50 less than 10 years ago... My 100-200 estimate was not off. 9.4 for under $25, ouch: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Batman-428-CGC-9-4-NM-Death-of-Robin/202782010615?hash=item2f36bfecf7:g:nMwAAOSwVYBdgs4L I never understood why folks thought census numbers back then were reflective of much. I have to wonder how many collectors are like me and have never slabbed a book? (although I'm on the cusp of doing it...). 25-30,000 comics and never.
  2. In 2009 I would have assumed less than 5% of bona fide 9.8 candidates had been submitted, so 10 could be 100 or 200 in no time with a $300 incentive. How many are there now?
  3. Thanks. I did not understand how this worked. Now I do. Sort of.
  4. This is a raffle, right, we don't give preferences? Anyway, I am good for a mystery Gemini mailer worth of SA and BA books in nice shape, shipped in the USA.
  5. The notion that there would continue to be only 10 9.8s of a relatively common late 80s batman book was absurd. This wasn't an indie or a failing title.
  6. I need to fund my retirement somehow. Please stop trying to scare away the fresh money.
  7. You guys are mean. If you want to spend $100-$200 you can probably pick up slabs from 8.0-8.5-9.0-9.2-9.4-9.6-9.8 to get a sense of what these books like in these grades. They might not be the books you're most interested in, but they may help give you a better idea of what books should look like in certain grades. Search completed auctions cgc 9.8 and you will see a bunch of books that could be had for around $15 shipped. Here's a pretty decent BA 8.5 that could have been had for around that much: https://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-Special-10-Jan-Feb-1971-CGC-8-5-/283616758741?hash=item4208e04bd5%3Ag%3AKrwAAOSwsktdgFPn&nma=true&si=k5rBGBi%2BuujbAIA%2FqNJ8cW9pcBQ%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
  8. I don't see the 6 gold for less than $26 on the interwebs (granted, no actual sales) and the nude gold variant I don't see anywhere at all (or any sales). Maybe this guy got over on you???
  9. It happens. Yup. I don't do auto reject for this reason. Granted, it's only 10-20% of the time that the extreme low baller gets back to reality and accepts and counter (or a counter counter), but it happens.
  10. Will you accept $150? I'll pay today. Maybe. Unless I change my mind. But I need to know what it is. And after that I might tell you I just got laid off and can't pay.
  11. What's your ethnicity? How would anyone know? My guess is that greggy is not going off on an anti Asian rant.
  12. seriously, are they searching cars for comics??
  13. Now I am regretting giving away so many kids books I could have done this with.
  14. Next time slide the comic inside a children's book. Easy peasy.
  15. Brigade 1 gold and Thor 339 are the key to a happy retirement.
  16. Roger had to move and reduced his space by 80%, there's limited room in the new place. Not sure how it is bad management. I am pretty sure he makes a reasonable offer to anyone who tries to sell him stuff. But yeah, I doubt he is pounding the pavement looking for collections.
  17. You can stumble into cheap stuff here just like anywhere else
  18. Roger and midtown are in areas you may be visiting Anyway as a tourist. I would not wander to outer boroughs to hunt comics and I live in one. Not saying there is nothing to see (or eat) out here, just don't come for comics.
  19. While I find the Pinochio lady amusing, If your going to schlep into Brooklyn go to Joe Kotch. As for E&H boutique...I went there for their dollar box and found about 1/3 of a long box of comics, half of them "free comic book day" comics...total waste of time. Also, once upon a time the Pinocchio lady was not so savy about ebay trends, now she is. Once she realized she sold multiple sets of the 80s rocket racoon mini out of her dollar box she started to pay attention.
  20. Anyway, I would like to be offered more free theatre tickets. Free always tastes better.
  21. I liked Mormon and avenue q, little shop. Would have liked to see original cast wicked and Hamilton. I agree many of the musical are really geared toward tourists and suburbanites here and are just easy rehashed of pop culture references like Jersey boys, spongebob and countless others I had no interest in, including spiderman (which I understand was cutting edge from a tech perspective). Anyway, I think you underestimated tbe audience for this stuff. I don't know any NASCAR fans either, but I know it's a real thing
  22. And I agree, most of the guys on my softball team woukd prefer to go to a Yankee game over a musical, but they'd clay accept the musical tickets to make their wives or girlfriends happy. If they haven't been married 15 years there might be a special treat in it for them.
  23. Ok, you live in southern California and don't know any entertainment industry types interested in live theatre? If your sister can't give away tickets to Los Angeles regional production, which are pretty high quality, my guess is she has a pretty narrow circle of friends. And frankly, most musicals don't excite me either, but there are some I want to see. Anyway, I think you just don't know a broad enough circle of people. You don't know any gay men or 58 year old women?
