  1. My wife's Paypal account was hacked just as described. Fortunately she noticed soon enough, changed language back to english, and put the $1K right back into the bank account. Had enough in account at the time to avoid overdraft, thankfully. Changed password and activated 2 part verification. So far so good. I’ve checked mine a couple times and still undefiled.
  2. About 2 months ago I found Strange Academy 1 (Walmart exclusive cover) at Walmart. Haven’t been back since.
  3. This is an issue I’ve dealt with as well. I imagine most collectors wanting graded books face this and have the same considerations you’ve detailed. It comes down to finding out what you want and why. If maximum investment potential is desired, then go for the most proven best selling books in highest grade available. This is just a data and math exercise. This doesn’t fit what you’ve explained though. It sounds like you want to have a book you like that can double as a sound investment. Going with the 9.2 instead of the 9.8 is perfectly fine. It saves money to get more 9.2’s. It’s not a great investment strategy for copper/modern books. You’ve prioritized collecting what you like over what has best likely return. There’s no right or wrong here in my opinion. It will likely be more difficult to someday profit off of selling a collection of 9.2 copper/modern books that aren’t major key issues. That’s the cost of collecting what you want. It’s still a better hobby financially than almost all others, lol.
  4. Which book is his first cover appearance? #10 Unknown Comics Variant shows from 3/2019. Store exclusives don’t seem to carry much influence though. #12 2nd print shows him as lil baby. 7/19 #16 cover A shows him at a diner w/Eddie, 9/19. did I miss one?
  5. Another Batman movie... I’ll just go back to my corner awaiting Spawn.
  6. I didn’t say that, necessarily. The golden age stories themselves are underwhelming; it’s the time in which they were written that tells much of early post-war America. The attitude, vernacular, wardrobe, common sense, and so on... I didn’t exist back then, so it’s foreign to me, but I grew up around people who spent their formative years in this time, so there’s a familiarity as well.
  7. Another consideration being that many flippers of comics will have a specialty niche they know in detail, and only general knowledge of everything else. I know mostly modern Marvel stuff but during dollar bin diving or eBay skimming I’ll recognize a cover of something unfamiliar that catches my eye because I’ve seen it being discussed in the past. This will prompt me to look it up and find its value. I’m sure I’ve missed plenty, but I’ve found plenty too. I can’t really be considered a flipper since I haven’t sold the vast majority of my great finds, lol.
  8. Thanks! I don’t have a lot of golden age books but I certainly appreciate them, more so than the moderns. Reading them is like a time machine; a glimpse into 40’s-50’s USA.
  9. @William-James88 is spot on. I just got this exact book graded. I thought it was a 9.8 so I put it to the max $1000 value for that tier. I wonder though, why you want to have it pressed if it is pristine? I didn’t have mine pressed, and graded 9.8. What I do generally: I’ll usually use raw replacement value in the grade I give a book, but I’ll always go at least $50 per book. If it’s a book I can’t replace without lots of searching, I’ll add value for that, assuming I would have to pay a very high price for the replacement copy once it’s discovered.
  10. I’d have it pressed by Joeypost and regraded by Mr. Borock’s current company. Label stays blue even with CT noted, and their new slabs are quite nice. I would not have CT removed. I think this particular book’s sale value will not be hindered by being slabbed by CGC’s sole legitimate competitor.
  11. Knowledge is power. Everyone competent enough to utilize Facebook comic groups has access to research all about pressing and cleaning before spending hundreds on comics and pressing and grading. my Venom 3 3rd print was not pressed. I simply looked at and determined it didn’t need a press or clean. Magically it still graded a 9.8 as I expected.
  12. I like the thread idea. My ASM300 9.6 was a stalked book for a while 2 yrs ago. I finally pulled the trigger on one via eBay for $630 shipped. Just last month I finally pulled the trigger on UF4 9.8 at $900. I almost bought one in Feb for $450. I finally stopped feeling sorry for myself for not buying it pre-Rona and paid up. Hard to believe $900 was a great price. I won’t post pics thanks to CGC’s rules. They are graded by Mr Borock’s current company.
  13. CGC will not grade anything in a bag. Regardless of whether or not you send it out for grading, it’s best for the book to remove it from polybag. Over time the seam puts a dent down the length of the back cover and the poly isn’t ideal material to store long term. X-Force 1 is a great example of why it’s best to remove polybags
  14. I agree with others this book was not switched out. It was over graded by CGC. The bend is likely a defect that had been pressed out and reverted post-encapsulation. It happens, and it stinks. the corners and edges are typical and look like 9.8. The color rub near the staple bugs me most. CGC and their sole legitimate competitor will sometimes grade a little tight or loose. I always recommend looking at the book in hand or through multiple high resolution photos, even if it’s in a case stating a certain grade. My 1st slabbed book I bought is a CGC 9.6 Spectacular Spider-Man 1. It looks fantastic, better than your Simpsons 1. Why didn’t it get a 9.8? I dunno. 3.5 yrs later I still think it’s a 9.8 and will likely resubmit someday. PS: I’m getting a Simpsons 1 ($1.95 newsstand edition) and 245 newsstand (last issue) graded at CGC right now, hoping to get 9.6 and 9.8.
  15. I have the lowest grade on census for Spider-Man meets Spider-Man 2099 #nn A readers crease on back cover knocked it down to 8.5. I missed it... but honestly it was very mild. I think a grader had a bad day. I sold the book for a loss and moved on, as it wasn’t worth resubmitting. My best surprise was my Batman 136 (1960) I expected 5.5, I got a 6.5. This was mostly due to an amazing press/clean job by CFP.
  16. My 3rd child, a son, was born at U of M in Ann Arbor in 2018. I know people in Ann Arbor. Not anyone prominent, just saying. One of these people’s names is Lance. I’m a MI native who defected to IN in 2019. I solemnly swear to, if I win, submit the most worthless books that will also be new to the census. I actually enjoy eating anchovies, and I am left handed.
  17. If you really want to be surprised, check out Venom 3 3rd printing (2018). 9.8’s are selling $800+ and have hit $1K. My 1st and 3rd print copy i bought new is at CGC right now. Hoping for that 9.8. my ASM300 is a lowly Direct Edition 9.6, currently at voldy getting reholdered, their new cases are apparently a huge improvement.
  18. There is an adhesive residue remaining on the page that will not come off without damaging the paper.
  19. It will be noted as not having been manufactured with the sticker. I have a ASM698 with 2 stickers from manufacturer, I’m guessing that would get a label note as well. my Absolute Carnage 1 cover A has no sticker either. Interesting stuff.
  20. I don’t know what CGC thinks, but as far as I know, the extra cover is intended for protection, then removal. I’d expect a note made on the label that it had been there originally. most people will prefer it removed so the sketch can be seen in the slab.
