In the Coin world, there is now a company that certifies the certifier. You send your slabbed coins to them, and, if they believe the grade is correct, they place their sticker on the case. Coins that have been doubly certified in this way sell for more.
Are you talking about CAC (The green bean)?

I did hear from him. He said that a form which was sent to him was not able to be filled out, so he gave up. I'll follow up with him and see if there is some way I could help him. Do you know if she left a voicemail?
I am not sure. I will try to get a number for her and PM you.

Marty is still reading the boards but is still unable to post. He wants those who care to know he is alive and well and still after Stuntman #3!
So, I e-mailed Dena on May 11th about this. She sent him an e-mail, and called. He never got back to her. I just found this out when trying to get another admin to help him. Dena is his best bet for getting back on the boards but, he would need to return her attempts to contact him.

That is another issue. During the whole process should the unfortunate occur then they only have to pay out a claim for the lower tier , or if just a small amount of damage they can act like that was how they received it as it was the tier you submitted it under.
I have never heard of anyone getting a discount if they submitted it under a higher tier, than the final grade.

My "definitely not" was more a direct response to his exact comment. There are honest people who do not think that it's restoration, including myself. If we use CGC as an authority, what they consider "restoration" changes sometimes, such as when they introduced the Conserved label.
Not everything is settled as to what is restoration. Some of it is situational, like black marker. On white paper? Not restoration. Drawn on a color-breaking crease? Restoration. Even then, there are probably people that disagree with the answers I gave to those questions.
Fair enough.

Pressing is definitely considered restoration by anyone who is honest, it's just allowable restoration
It's definitely not.
There used to be threads about this that were 100's of pages long. It was a very sensitive subject that would get people very angry and turn board members against each other. People were split 50/50 as whether pressing is restoration or not. Times have changed, and it has become waaay more acceptable. Although, to say it is definitely not is highly questionable, and may or may not be accurate. Many still feel it is, and rightfully so.

Wow. I remember sending dena an e-mail about this quite a while ago. I will make a post about it in the moderator section, and see if we can get someone to help him out.

I apologize but I don't know whether those are one of the 9.0 Acton #1s and the Detective #27 9.2 I just mentioned above.
They are neither of the books mentioned above. They are both raw, and the action #1 is thought to be about a 9.4 and the Tec about a 9.8? Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

So ... the 9.6 AF 15 is now the "most expensive comic book ever" ... but obviously (I think?!) it's not the most valuable. I have to imagine that there are Golden Age mega-keys that would fetch more at auction.
Let's take the top two titans of the collecting hobby: There are 2 9.0 copies of Action #1, and for Detective #27 there is a 9.2 and an 8.5 in the census. I think at least three of these four books, maybe all four, are now $5M books.
Do people agree? What other specific copies of specific books do you think would fetch more than $3.6M if put up for auction today?

My feeling is:
Superman is the most iconic.
Batman is the most popular over all.
Spiderman is the top SA character.

I've been a collector my whole life. But I've also been a techie. It seems like this community doesn't understand how tech actually works and just sorta repeats marketing stuff. Seriously, look at the forums. Membership and post counts are growing but post quality is dropping and everyone just says "yaaaa got too popular so the dummies moved in". Nope those are fake accounts. They invade a community and if people don't actually address it, they take it over.
There are very few fake accounts on this forum. With the exception of Stu, it is possible there are no fake accounts.

How do you feel about buying old slabs?
in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Posted
Fading would be another concern. The best rule of thumb, is to buy the book not the slab.
