  1. Just found this thread! I love this stuff! I posted this one on Marwood's DC pence thread a couple of weeks ago because they came up in conversation a while back, but this is really their true home. These are effectively mass-produced (ish) bound volumes. They were put together in 1967 or 1968 from unsold copies of anything UK distributor Thorpe & Porter had lying around the warehouse. This one had Aquaman 28, Detective 363, Aquaman 30, Action 345, Superman 192 & Detective 352 in that order. The contents don't necessarily have anything to do with the cover. Some of them have Marvel or ACG titles inside. They're a fun little gamble, because you never know what's going to be inside. They just grabbed a random six from a huge pile and bound them up. I've seen several with Detective 359 inside. Also Lois Lane 70 seems to be popular. There were 12 different covers: The one above is the only one I've had. Sold it last week.
  2. Yeah, it's my favourite, too. And again, it comes after a solid run of 'borrowed' covers.
  3. Yeah. They seem to lose interest towards the end. That's #18, which is the last issue in the Greek series. The earlier issues all have normal (borrowed from the original) covers. There's also an implication that Wolverine is in there somewhere. He ain't, but the lot was so cheap, I don't care.
  4. Finally got around to organizing this little Greek Kabanas Hellas lot. Nabbed it off ebay Uk for a ridiculously low bid. I'll split it into a couple of posts.
  5. Thanks again Dorothy! Yeah, they're all trimmed, but the only one that really shows is the Aquaman 28.
  6. Cheers Alice! I knew your research was bound to include this. Also, since I've seen your scan, I can fill in a box on my very own spreadsheet. Have you got a scan of TTA 17 in pence? The only other two pence variants I've never actually seen are Where Monsters Dwell 28 & 29. Wherever it is those monsters are dwelling, they ain't saying.
  7. Look what I managed to snag, for less than the cost of lunch. The cover is kind of bent, but the insides are in great shape. It contains Aquaman 28, Detective 363, Aquaman 30, Action 345, Superman 192 & Detective 352, in that order. The real gem is Detective 363, 2nd Barbara Gordon Batgirl. The cover looks like it's just come off the press. And no T&P stamps!
  8. Old before my time, me. Problem is, I still feel about 10.
  9. Not guilty. Though if I'd seen it at the time, I might have fought you for it. I thought I'd seen it, but I've been out of the loop for a bit. Plus I'm 50, so brain sleeeeeepy.
  10. Been skiving at work, filling in some gaps in my research & stumbled across this TTA 16 & 17 are the only two pence copies I've never clapped eyes on. Don't know if I'm repeating info that's listed elsewhere on the threads, but this #16 (from ebay back in July from a US dealer) has no price. A quick squint at the indicia shows the "Thorpe & Porter" line. Marwood? Do you know about this? I'm guessing you do & I've just missed it, but you never know...
  11. I spotted that. No question it's a nicer copy. Any guesses where it will finish up?
  12. Great! Another silver age pence variant dishrag! Only how much?!
  13. Ok. Just had a closer look at the ASM1 & it's a rag, so maybe not such a bargain. I still like the TOS39, though. Even if it is a bit greasy.
  14. That ASM1 & TOS39 both look like bargains so far.
  15. Anyone bidding on this? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/THE-X-MEN-1-1ST-APPEARANCE-1963-VG-KEY-ISSUE-SILVER-AGE-99p-MARVEL-COMICS-SALE/362706543302 Looks a bit pricey, considering condition. It is an X-Men 1, but...
