  1. Was that Passport Comics in North Hollywood? Whatever happened to the the owners Dee and Earl Bowman? Are they still around? I picked up a Flash 123 there in the late 1970s. It was in nice shape. Still have it but never have gotten it graded. Too expensive to have comics graded.
  2. Any know whatever happened to Earl and Dee Bowman? They owned and operated Passport Comics in North Hollywood, Calif for well-nigh thirty years but their last store is not open anymore. PLMK. Thanks
  3. Beautiful copies of a classic Silver Age Title and one of my favorites.
  4. Great story; wish it was cheaper so I could afford it.
  5. Love the great Roy. Nobody could sing like he could. His group the Sons of the Pioneers were one of the best old-time western bands of all time. Even the great Pete Seeger would include some of Bob Nolan songs on his records. Happy Trails, Roy. You and Dale were the best.
  6. I was collecting back then and never found anything close to that book for just 10 bucks. Maybe 30-45. I'd like to see the receipt. LOL.
  7. That's a good price. Wish I could find one like that so I finally might settle for one in Good or Good/Very Good. You bought a beautiful book.
  8. Probably in the minority here but I love those DC GO-GO checks at the top. DC decided that fans would be able to distinguish the comics from the competition by placing the checks there as the books were lined up on the racks. I remember buying them from the stands and I loved GL and Flash Team-Ups. They made more sense than Batman-Superman team-ups. Batman wasn't a superhero. You might as well team up Sherlock Holmes or Brother Cadfael with the Avengers.
  9. NOt the best on distinguishing artists but I think that is a Murphy Anderson cover. That's a classic cover--at least I think so. Always wanted on but I could never find one at a decent price even on mid or low grade.
  10. Hey Steve. You always told me you were a Northwestern fan. Thought about going and almost did but I ended up in Inglewood with a couple of other Rams buddies to give our team a hearty farewell. Go Los Angeles Rams. Sick of Brady and the Cheatriots. Anyway it's Super Bowl Week. Go Rams.
  11. It's Game Time 1 has 9 copies in the Census. I have a CGC 7.0 with off-white to white pages. Only one higher at 8.0 which I have never seen. Last time my copy was on the market was in August of 1990. I keep it unless someone makes me a crazy offer.
  12. I will take this annual 3 only if you send it to CGC first. I do not buy raw books because I prefer impartial grading which protects buyer and seller. That is why CGC exists. Also there could even be restoration and only CGC can detect it.
  13. Didn't mean to imply that you were a lousy grader. You sound sincere and have a number of backers on these boards. So I will think about buying the book. Thanks for the response.
  14. If you send this book to CGC with a press as well, I would buy it at that price. Last 8 raw books I bought from these boards came much lower than stated grade so I will let the dealer have the book graded by CGC. Then I am protected. Thanks for understanding.
  15. This girl bears a striking resemblance to Ann Margret.
  16. That's the first time I have seen a Peanuts comic. It looks a though the girl swinging the bat will hit Charlie in the face and cause serious injury. Also, Charlie's catcher's mitt is not from the 1950s; it's more like the twenties or even the Dead Ball Era. Whoever did the cover (doesn't say) sure messed up.
  17. There wouldn't be a capacity crowd during OTAs and there is no doubt that is a real stadium as well. Nice try though.
  18. Then show me some football comics that depict free-agent signings, OTAs, the draft and even training camp.
  19. Hate to be the bearer of unfortunate news but football season really doesn't begin the Sunday after Labor Day weekend or actually the Thursday before the Sunday. Baseball's Opening Day begins today. College football of course begins the end of August but that's quite a ways off as well. And nobody gives a darn about exhibition football in Aug.
  20. John was a nice man but it wasn't easy to buy from him if you didn't have the big bucks. I wanted a Showcase 30 he had at his booth at the Shrine in LA back in the late 1980s. He wanted $1000.00 for the comic in what he graded as a VF+. I think that was over 10x OSPG. He wouldn't budge on price. I really wanted the comic. I ended up buying the same comic in the same grade 25 years later for a lot less money. He spent almost an hour talking my ear off why it was a good buy and even a bargain--and that was back in 1981. Anyway, it's sad and tragic he died so young. No one does deserves such an untimely death. In his memory here are a few passages of one of my favorite hymns. In fact this hymn appears in seven John Ford directed movies. People are always dying in John Ford westerns. Shall we gather at the river where bright angels feet have trod With its crystal tide forever flowing by the throne of God Refrain: Yes, we'll gather at the river The beautiful beautiful river Gather with the Saints at the river That flows by the throne of God Ere we reach the Shining river Lay we every burden down Gather our spirits will deliver And provide a robe and a crown Refrain: Soon we'll reach the silver river Soon our pilgrimage will cease Soon our happy hearts will quiver with the melody of peace Yes, we'll gather at the river The beautiful, beautiful river Gather with the Saints at the river That flows by the the throne of God I pray that John hears this great 19th century hymn as he moves to the great land above the sky. I'm hoping someone can sing it at his funeral. Burl Ives made a wonderful recording of it.
  21. I love the science-fiction era Batmans. Product of its era, I suppose. Probably won't happen again but that's what make them so cool. Great condition. I don't care about actual grade-as long as it looks great--and yours does. Great issue of Detective Comics. Thanks for sharing.
  22. I don't like the intrusion either--never did. But I like the Mort Weisinger edited Supermans. They were lots of fun to read. Silly, yes. but such a joy especially as a kid and Supermans were targeted for kids. Something was wrong if you were in High School and still reading them.
