  1. What's the typical price on an unrestored 3.0 to 6.0 Detective 31 these days? I know the Crippen copy went for basically double guide. I enjoy seeing everybody's books, as always. Marc
  2. I just beat you guys because my first issues off the racks were OAAW 302 and SSWS 204 (final issue). So I got there right at the end. Almost immediately after, GIC went dollar size. Agree on the quality--man! Like a lot of people, I started with DC then got more into Marvel as I got older and when I was 10-12, the only DC books I was buying were the war books which I got every month. Sgt. Rock up until about 350, Unknown Soldier to the 240s or so? GIC started as my favorite but the dollar size didn't do much for me so it was an extra for me. I even had a subscription to Sgt. Rock right away (306 might've been my first issue) and they were shipped in a brown paper envelope, open-ended. You could get the comic out but couldn't get it back in! So yeah, I remember that concentration camp Unknown Soldier cover--bought it off the stands. I can't remember if I ever saw other kids at the comic racks though. I have no memory of that. Marc
  3. I feel that I should give kudos first off to the post office, which did a great job getting my packages where they needed to go this holiday season. Everything I mailed priority on the Monday or Tuesday before Christmas arrived that week, including a package I sent Monday to New Jersey that arrived on Wednesday! Standing in for the post office, is forum member Underdog. Kudos! Lucky me, I also received four boxes from forum members the Friday before Christmas. Thanks to FT88, JKRK, RJPB, and Flatrock02 for such fast shipping. I'm happy with all the purchases. Thanks to everyone for all your buys and sells this year, Marc
  4. Their 70s and 80s VGs to VFs are REAL SOLID, I have to say. The 70s VGs can be really nice, like warehouse copies that they downgraded for some storage creases.
  5. I was looking at our copy a few weeks ago and did a double-take on that too. But it's spelled Suzie in the story so only the cover is wrong.
  6. Mick, that flashing envelope at the top is my welcoming PM to you. Buck, I look forward to your Mile High tale. My immediate thought is that those comics are too old to have a shot at true 9.4 (whereas if they were say 1980s warehouse GIC dollar size, I'd believe you'd have a shot at NM. But considering you'd be keeping the CGC books (ie, a good portion of the order) I don't think you'll be blacklisted. Guys, I thought the new Heritage description was very funny. Written by Yahoo Big Five guy Don Mangus? <<Have you gotten into heated debates about the "true" first appearance of Sgt. Rock? Do you recuperate from a hard day's work by heading to the woods to spend time with a wolf? When you shout "OK boys, the coast is clear," are three Nazis hiding just out of sight, ready to blast you, and is Joe Kubert crouched nearby, drawing the whole thing? If your answer to any of the above is yes, check out the fine selection of war comics in this week's auction, including early issues of four of the five "Big Five" titles (sorry, no Our Fighting Forces)!>>
  7. Couldn't wait until Christmas to open the FF 1? Thanks very much for your purchase Chris!
  8. Andy, Thanks so much for your order! Always a pleasure. Marc
  9. I thought the wantlist thread by Filter was one of the coolest happenings of the year.
  10. Kudos to Fuelman and Comix4Fun for graciously selling me tons of Dark Shadows books. I appreciate it guys, Marc
  11. I don't know... Chilly Willy is definitely popular (among women) so this guy might not qualify.
  12. Really glad to hear it! I want to give kudos to thirdgreenham and shield for recent purchases. More kudos to come as you guys are keeping me very busy.
  13. I was flipping through your box today as a matter of fact. It was Kubert's Tarzan that blew me away as a kid. Probably because there was a treasury-sized edition of that but not any war books. Isn't that odd come to think of it? There was at least one mystery treasury but no war. I guess the war books had a disproportionate share of the DC digests a few years later. Love Joe's Rock as well but somehow I like Heath even more. It could be that he draws better machines or even something as simple as my first war comic ever was Easy's First Tiger. Marc
  14. Nice... I can't even get any low-grades of that issue in stock.
  15. I agree. It all looks pretty good except 10 and 11. The idea to limit bumps to three isn't too bad though. As for 11, basically all the threads are WTS (or as I prefer, FS). Marc
  16. Yeah, your post reassured me too. Brad, one's admiration for Kubert just grows and grows and grows as one gets older I think. It helps to read interviews with Neal Adams where Adams' respect for Kubert totally shines through. What does everyone thing of Adam's war work between the covers? I think his DC covers are terrific and I like the SSWS 144. But I was looking at the backup story in OAAW 182 this week and it just doesn't quite take fire for me. Doesn't seem as vivid as his superhero work of the time. Was this an inventory story done a few years earlier? The story in Weird War Tales 8 seems a bit more "like himself" but even that one doesn't blow me away like his work usually does. Marc
  17. Interesting. Our #1 that we sold this summer had staples on the front too.
  18. Thanks to Finecomics for selling me most of his war comics inventory. Accurate grading, perfect packaging. Kudos! Thanks also to Seank and Shield for recent purchases. Marc
  19. Kudos to Great Escape, Shiverbones, and Buck Biggins for their latest purchases, all 40s and 50s stuff. Thanks guys! Marc
  20. I have to say, after having the guy criticize the dog and then want to jump in and help dig, I was actually hoping for a Krypto-type balloon to get the dog's thoughts.
