  1. Thanks to FT88 for well-graded 1950s DC superhero books! I'm enjoying them. Marc
  2. Kudos to Fuelman for Strange Adventures 12, Our Army at War 81 and Our Fighting Forces 45, amazing books all. Everyone should check out his website for excellently chosen older stuff, esp. 50s DCs! Kudos also to Jimjum for reminding me that Fuelman had the books I was looking for--great job and way beyond the call. Marc
  3. Thanks to nocomics and october for selling me more books! Andy's batch is the ScarletSpiderfan special!
  4. Thanks to JuliusSeizure and Buttock and 143ksk for recent purchases. I really appreciate it guys! Special thanks to Karma for the combo trade and purchase. I think he's the fourth forumite I've completely cleaned out of either war comics or westerns. Marc
  5. You could have practically picked it up. Well, I guess it would've been a bit of a drive. He lives near where I grew up and one of my first ebay purchases from the seller--Star Spangled War Stories w/Unknown Soldier that I needed. I thought his grading was poor at the time. Marc
  6. I enjoyed reading that too--not as much as the WW II history which I loved, but good stuff.
  7. Man Comics, I presume. Love your scholarship, as always. Marc
  8. Is it safe to come out now? Are the Love titles done and gone? Almost two months with no posts in the thread--saving your strength to push through the romance comics, obviously. I do enjoy reading 2-3 a year. Marc
  9. We had that one a year or two ago. As I recall, it's not as cross-genre as it seems. Is my recollection correct? A pretty tepid cover story? Marc
  10. Also had a really nice transaction with TakinShotstoQuit where he sold me all his undercopies of Jonah Hex and Weird Western Tales. Thanks!
  11. I am extremely happy with my recent purchases from GAcollectibles (Herbie lot) and nocomics (Conan magazine lot). Both guys were super to deal with and good graders. Good packing too. These deals were just above and beyond the usual good experiences I have with forum sellers and both of them are highly, highly recommended. I also want to give kudos to paperheart for the Dark Detective mini which he graciously delivered to me at Super-Con. Marc
  12. Your first was exactly a year after my first--but somehow I missed 216 back then. I don't think I have it even now. Great to see these covers again. The 206 is a nice cover but the chess details inside are written by an obvious non-chess player. Marc
  13. Wow, included are 60% of the front and back covers! Seems like a cool deal.
  14. No way, really? I'll have to get one of those someday. The Recon playset above with the camo tent or whatever it is, reminds me of the Marx plastic "terrain" sheets that one would put under the Guns of Navarone mountain! I loved that playset. It's not surprising I graduated to Unknown Soldier, Haunted Tank, and Sgt. Rock about a year later. Marc
  15. Thanks to Pirate for the my superhero books for his war books trade. Thanks also to Catskill Mike, Fuelman, Aussie Russ, Johnny G and Tofer118 for their recent purchases. Everyone was wonderful to deal with. Marc
  16. I saw that on the Yahoo Big Five group too--I'm a bit skeptical. Considering the DC execs were kind of bagging on the notion of having a Haunted Tank archive. There's obviously little chance of a second Enemy Ace volume either. Having said that, I've said for a long time on the Yahoo list that USS Stevens would be my absolute top choice for an archive among the whole DC back library. It really deserves the treatment and the exposure. Btw, this is a good week in war comics for me. I have nice batches of war comics (mostly SA but some bronze) coming my way from two forum members and we just sold our Our Army at War #1 this week too. I love these things! Marc
  17. Hmm, that 153 doesn't look familiar. Is it possible I don't have it?
  18. I really see this as two separate issues. The overall con scene and the HG war scene. I don't have a lot of hope for the second but have some optimism for the first. Marc
  19. Nice report Shep. HG War books are in low numbers anyway and with CGC etc., it's even harder for dealers to get them. You also have previous big show dealers like Showcase New England that have gone eBay only. (In the 1980s selling comics meant shows. I would do two a month. Now I do two a year.) Your report echoes Wondercon. Mick Rabin came up from San Diego and found ZERO HG war. And this is a pretty big show. Sorry to hear that attendance was bad. Not what I like to hear. Marc
