Diamond sent out a survey to retailers yesterday. Ostensibly to help them plan for what the restart will look like.
It asked about the current local situation (are you forcibly shut down, can you do curbside, can you do mail order, are you selling gift cards online, etc).
It asked about what percentage of your revenue comes from comics and trade paperbacks, then separate questions for statues/toys and for games. Was really odd to me that if they were bothering to ask for breakdowns they would lump comics and trades together.
And it asked (open ended response) what assistance would be most helpful when things do restart.
I take it as a good sign that they’re trying to get feedback. Though you can tell a lot by what questions get asked and which ones don’t.
For the record, my response was 61% comics and trades, though in the essay section I explained that was 28% new books, 20% back issues, and 13% trades. Don’t want Diamond thinking they supply 75% of my inventory when you add in statues and toys, when it’s really around 60% total.
In the open ended section I reiterated the same feedback I’ve given all three reps I’ve talked to. Don’t send us 8 weeks of books all at once. Pretend a couple months didn’t exist and just roll everything forward. That’s far more important to me than Marvel increasing my discount to 70% or all the small publishers making everything returnable. Don’t bury me with 3300lb of comics the first week I’m back.
Cant send 8 weeks of books if the printers aint open......

Hello, just wondering if anyone has any insight as to why there is such a high ‘asking’ price on this book? I got my copy several years ago and think I spent about $115.00 for it and am always surprised to see these listings. Was there a low print run, etc? Or, are these actually just crazy prices? The census doesn’t indicate anything special. Appreciate any info.
sellers being stupid. 1st appearance of Doomsday's hand

That is an assumption.
Just because other sellers have it for less and an auction is above your threshold does not mean they are scamming the system.
I'd rather deal with facts and not conspiracy theories. Show facts or it probably is not happening outside of your own little perspective.
Not an assumption. Hard cold fact. It's definitely being shilled.
The seller even has ANOTHER listing for 9.8s as a BIN....FOR LESS ! https://www.ebay.com/itm/Year-Of-The-Villain-Hell-Arisen-3-CGC-9-8-Cover-A-1st-Full-Punchline-FAST-PASS/193342648020?hash=item2d041eaed4:g:wZIAAOSwUrZeSEH2
Stay away from this seller.

No actual way to tell.
But right now it's over $300.There is a way to tell: Other sellers have it for much less.

Bad Idea was only formed to generate some comics and IPs for Hivemind to make into movies. Seems that's what these indie publishers do these days.
-
Bad Idea is trying to create artificial scarcity. Demand > Supply.
This is not the way to grow a business.

Nope - it’s been a rough month. You know it’s rough when key collector has a tough time finding anything spiking.
KeyCollector is a person_who_is_obnoxiously_self-impressed . Dont rely on him for info

As a new collector of new modern age comics, I have noticed that the trend is to release signature artist variant covers with limited issue to say 600 or 1000 worldwide. I would be grateful for any constructive comments, from more experienced collectors, on whether its worth investing in such comics. Thanks
Dont buy into the marketing. Being "limited" is not the same as "total print run". When a webstore mentions a variant being "limited", it means the print run is much higher. Its all marketing gimmicks to sway noobs into buying their variant.

My moderns are pretty much down to Spawn, Usagi Yojimbo & Dr. Aphra...
The last 6 weeks have been maddening for Spawn I started ordering with Things From Another World, joined a Facebook group, and still miss so much of what's released.
Ross B&W exclusive. Also have the Crain virgin exclusive coming in ~2 weeks.
The 302 d & e covers were solicited late & not avail for preorder on TFAW. Had to buy these off the Fb group.
Seems like about half of collectors missed these.
Bought a nice lot of 40 NM Marvel Angela books off FeeBay (85c shipped each). Digital downloads unpopped.
Also included Original Sin 5.1-5.5, Asguardians ot Galaxy 1-10, Asgard's Assassin 1-6
Only buying books from TFAW is your first mistake. There's Westfield, Graham Cracker, Midtown, Ebay....I could keep going....

Having under 10 copies on the CGC census just means people dont give acrap about slabbing it. Doesnt mean the book is a ghost.

@SecondBlight , did you ever think .......... ( that should keep him in bed for the next 4 days with a migraine )
For the rest of you .... familiar with the ‘iceberg theory’? You see the 10% above water - if you saw the other 90%, an iceberg would take on a completely different size, shape, SOPHISTICATION and complexity. A peak at me “below the water line”. I collect ( in part / with passion! ) factory sealed Comics, and Sportscards - all either key issues, Rookies, Origins, etc etc - all with limited / preferably loooooow production numbers. Over time, this population of sealed items will ALWAYS get smaller, as Collectors can’t wait to tear open that packaging, and grade those items. Well... you can open a sealed bag to grade a comic, but you can never “ungrade” it, and seal it back in the bag! Now... I ALSO collect some pretty sweet, non-bagged, KEY Moderns that I DON’T post here — only post a small percentage ~~ iceberg!
Pics- some of my recent “factory sealed” eBay purchases ...Oh great, now we can see what sellers you pissed off with all those returns

I get the feeling you like blowing money...alot of money....on "hot" "hyped" modern books, without a grasp on how the modern market works.
