  1. If you crack it, be sure to post a pic!
  2. There is a CGC slabbed FF 193 w/Pizzazz insert for sale on eBay now (see pic). Or at least that is what the label says.
  3. SSM #178 is an issue where the front cover colors vary widely from copy to copy. Here are a couple copies I recently obtained.
  4. I found these two hidden in an eBay lot recently. The pin-up in #219 is missing, unfortunately. One Western to go - Rawhide Kid 141.
  5. In the last few years I have had several books which I submitted to CGC come back from CGC with previously non-existent waviness. The first time, CGC blamed it on the 3rd party presser. Most recently, I decided to have CCS do the pressing, not because I didn't trust the 3rd party presser, but rather so that I would have some recourse if the books came back wavy. Sure enough, all three books came back from CGC with some degree of waviness. CGC agreed to re-slab for free, but said it was a CCS pressing issue, not a CGC slab issue. The 3rd party presser I used is highly-regarded. I believe the waviness issue is an inner well problem.
  6. Great timing in your re-discovery! And it looks stunning!
  7. A few months ago on eBay I spotted a large auction lot which had twenty or so hidden 35c variants showing in the listing photos, plus a few books which potentially were 35s but their price boxes were not visible. I ended up winning the auction, and upon receiving my books I found there were 54 35 centers in the lot (see pics) - way more than I expected. With those books I filled eight gaps in my 35c collection, plus made a few upgrades. I submitted the Iron Fist 14 to CGC, and it just came back as an 8.5 OW. Obviously, the IF 14 was by far the best book of the bunch, but I was also pretty stoked to get the MTA 36 and 37, as they were the only super-hero reprints I needed.
  8. Extremely cool! Did Voldy note it as multiple Tattooz inserts, or just as extra tattoos, as in one Tattooz insert containing multiple tattoos? I once found a Dazzler 25 which had two Tattooz inserts, but one of them was loose, unstapled and unfolded in the back of the book.
  9. I recently picked up at an LCS two copies of Secret Wars II #3 which have the same printing error. It appears that a color was missing or weak when the covers were printed, resulting in the front cover background having violet hues instead of being the blue/indigo and black of a standard copy. Differences in color can also be seen in the characters on the front cover. The error is less evident on the back cover, but on the error copies the girl's pants and the boy's coat appear slightly different from those on a standard copy. In the photos below, an error copy is on the left and a standard copy is on the right.
  10. Marvel Two-In-One #31 has an interesting manufacturing error on the front cover. As far as I can tell, on all copies of the 35c price variant, Whitman/square diamond version, UK edition and Mark Jewelers, there is an area between the I and N of THING which is pink where it should be blue. That error also exists on some of the regular 30c newsstand copies, but on what seems to be a small minority of the books. I say the error is interesting because I think it could show something about when the covers of the different varieties of MTIO #31 were printed, although I am not sure what exactly it shows. It could show the 35c variant, Whitman/square diamond, UK and MJ covers were all printed first with the error, then the 30c newsstands were printed, and soon after the 30c newsstand run started the error was corrected. Or, it could show exactly the opposite, that is, the 30c newsstands were printed first, and near the end of that run something happened in the printing process which caused the error, and the error continued into the printing of the other versions. Or, it could show something else, or show nothing at all.
  11. Not sure why this one didn't come to my mind inmediately: Special Marvel Edition 15
  12. These are a tier below the previous-mentioned books, but I think are top 20: Conan The Barbarian 23 and/or 24 Fear 19 Marvel Premiere 1
  13. Something interesting about the pricing of the book in question - 75c/50p/95c - is that Marvel priced its regular comic books that way for only one month - 02/1986. In 03/1986, the price of regular Marvel comic books changed to 75c/40p/95c. The fact that the pricing scheme of the book in question was used by Marvel only in 02/1986 tends to show the book is not a 2nd or subsequent printing, I believe.
  14. Here is another one for the National Bookstore list - Thor 247.
  15. Found these two in the wild at a show in Milwaukee. Two different dealers, to boot.
  16. I recently sold a Thor #282. As I was examining the book before sale, I noticed what appeared to "THOR" doodled with pen and/or marker in the top margin of page 19. The "doodling" appeared to be printed and there was no marker bleed-through, but I thought the book certainly could not have been printed that way, so I sold the book as having writing in it. Then a couple days ago I picked up another Thor #282, and sure enough, the same "doodling" was present. Apparently, the books were printed that way. Is this kind of thing unusual? Were all copies of Thor #282 printed this way? Thanks
  17. I am aware of the insert being in all the March 1983 issues with newsstand editions, except for: Further Adventures Of Indiana Jones 3; Incredible Hulk Vs Quasimodo 1; New Mutants 1; Red Sonja 2; and Team America 10. I'm still looking for those.
  18. In the past couple years I have found Tattooz inserts in about 30 copies of March, 1983 Marvel issues other than ASM 238 and FF 252. All the inserts were in newsstand editions. That being said, there is an Avengers 229 direct edition CGC 9.8 for sale on eBay which states on the label that it has a Tattooz insert.
  19. Looks like you can add Cap 198 to the list. This one is for sale on eBay.
  20. One thing we need to remember regarding the timing of the printing of the Alemar's Star Wars is the actual date the US versions were printed and distributed. In 1977, Marvel comic books were printed and distributed roughly 3 months prior to the publication dated shown on the book. Thus, the US version of Star Wars 3, with a publication date of September, 1977, was actually printed in about June, 1977 (I found a website which showed a publication date of June 7, 1977, but could not verify the footnote which gave the source of that date). Acc. to the Shakey's sticker on the Star Wars 2 above, The Alemar's Star War 3 was available in November, 1977, or about 5 months after the book was printed and available in the US.
