Sure, unless it meant I only had the funds available to me at the time prices were that low. At the end of the day I can now afford anything (except, like, AC 1 and Tec 27), but that wouldn't have been true in the past, even with lower prices. So it's tough.

I'm not sure the highest copies of either would hit that number. The T206 occupies a unique position in paper collectables.

Bronze age comics that are heating up on eBay...

There's enough Teen Titans media out there (plus Young Justice) that I wouldn't be surprised... -
Doesn't seem like they're going that way, based on how the story was written. And I wouldn't expect it going forward, either.

Correct. Mandarin is Shangi-Chi's father and the primary villain of the movie.

First appearance of The Mandarin.

Incredibly underrated book right there.

THE SUICIDE SQUAD directed by James Gunn (2021)
bpc3qh replied to Bosco685's topic in The Movie Forum
I really enjoyed it. It was obviously far superior to the 2016 movie, and worked as its own film too. I'd be happy to see every surviving character in more films.- 802 replies

I wouldn't be surprised if many of these books are from people who primarily deal in sports cards, and thus know/trust Goldin, and are using these comic sales to generate goodwill with Goldin (e.g., a dealer of sports cards has a customer who also has comics, or who knows someone with comics, and that's how the connection was made). Goldin has been huge in sports cards for a while, so he's not an unknown such that it's a risk, per se, in consigning big books to him, I think.

Yeah, I dunno. As someone who's the generation willing to spend on Pokemon (and I would, to be clear, I just lack the funds to buy a perfect 1st Edition holo Charizard), I do think it's interesting which things are rising in value. My entire collecting is driven by 1990s nostalgia (whaddup DCAU), but not the 1990s products--instead, I look for the underlying sources (e.g., Laughing Fish, Joker's Five-Way Revenge, other first appearances). That's not present for many other 1980s/1990s products, so the value is derived elsewhere. -
New Name for People Who Still Collect DC
bpc3qh replied to JTLarsen's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
I love my D.C. Silver books. If anything, I'll probably be putting a lot more money into it over the near future. I can get basically every book I want (especially if I'm not too picky on grade), and I don't have to deal with people buying obscure (but important to me) books just because they think Shaggy Man is going to be a villain in some upcoming movie. -
I like buying the Guide each year, even though it's rarely, if ever, market-accurate. It's a relic, and important to the history of my beloved hobby, and isn't so expensive that I can't justify the yearly expense. But, no, I definitely don't base my prices on it.

Went through the series recently. It wasn't terrible, with plenty of solid moments, and season 3 will be interesting. Definitely hoping they lean into the lighter moments more.

The 1966 Batman series is firmly cemented in the popular psyche. It'll stay forever.

Goldin has pretty strict policies for payment, especially on high-dollar items in the sports card auctions. It could happen, but it would be a pretty dramatic departure from their current M.O.

THE SUICIDE SQUAD directed by James Gunn (2021)
bpc3qh replied to Bosco685's topic in The Movie Forum
I mean, he's not 100% wrong on the substance. Dark Knight and Winter Soldier were movies featuring superheroes, but also took on other genres in fantastic ways. That type of innovation should be the future. We’ll still get movies with superheroes, but there’s no reason not to try and innovate.- 802 replies

The website they currently use had a lot of issues during the boom, but has been getting better. I think it'd be fine for comics.

They're a big name in sports cards, and are looking to hire comics people. Will be interesting to see if they can claw ground away from HA/CL/CC.

HBO Max's BATGIRL starring Leslie Grace (2022?)
bpc3qh replied to Bosco685's topic in The Movie Forum
I didn't see In The Heights, so no idea if she's any good. I'd seen that Zoey Deutch was in the running, and I'd have loved that. No Batgirl will ever be as good as Tara Strong, though.- 470 replies

Sure, but that won't be this auction, right? We'd have to go around again. This particular sale, then, won't top AC 1; if it does get to 9.8, and is the only 9.8, then maybe.
-
Right--if it were already slabbed 9.8 I could see people bidding 9.8 value, but with it slabbed 9.6 I wonder if the label chasers will still away? Unless you're talking about more knowledgeable collectors who see the potential for a resub and think this is a bargain, which I'm skeptical of considering the huge amount of cash involved.

I'm predicting it to finish between 2.5 and 3 million. -
I'll predict the AF 15 to go somewhere between 2.5 and 3 million. It won't beat the Action 1, but it'll come close.
