Thoughts on - BEN REILLY: SPIDER-MAN #1 coming in January
shadroch replied to BigLeagueCHEW's topic in Comics General
It's almost as if they want to make money off the guy. -
I have an idea. Lets fire this jerk and bring in a totally unqualified Japanese guy. That will even out the karmic scales and the world can go back to the peace and harmony we were enjoying before this shocking occurence. I'm still a bit confused though. He rose to be editor in chief. Was that on merit or was it not?

I swear, it wasn't me...

Are you saying Dark Horse wouldn't have hired him for the job if they knew he was white? How is that okay? He violated Marvels in house policy of not letting editors write for for other sections, but if they are okay with that, who else has a say in the matter? Does one need to be a mutant to write an X-book?

There is nothing sexier than a hot hot model
shadroch replied to batman_fan's topic in Comics General
I made it to the second model. I'm pretty sure the first one cost a dime, and I have no idea what the rest cost but we canceled after the second one. -
If they don't announce it and it winds up in the hands of some kid whose mother objects to it, it can be a problem. I'd have to believe there is an audience that will buy the book just because of what it is.

He Read All 27,000 Marvel Comic Books and Lived to Tell the Tale
shadroch replied to bronze johnny's topic in Comics General
In the early 70s, there weren't more than twenty or so Marvel hero books a month so many people read every issue. Even in the mid-80s, there weren't more than fifty a month so I think many people still read them all. I had several people who had standing orders for every Marvel comic as they came out. It wasn't until I sold my second store and had to pay for my books that I started cutting down. I remember having a $1,000 budget for new comics my first month and trying to stretch it to cover the whole month. By the late 80s, that was my weekly bill. -
A stain like that knocks it way down. I'd give it a 6.0.

He Read All 27,000 Marvel Comic Books and Lived to Tell the Tale
shadroch replied to bronze johnny's topic in Comics General
I used to routinely read twenty-thirty comics in a day. Half a day, really. I'm pretty sure I've read almost every Marvel Superhero comic from FF 1 to sometime in the late 1980s. There might be a Strange Tales or two I missed but other than that I'm fairly confident I read the entire hero line. Not every Marvel comic, but every Marvel super-hero comic. -
Silver Age Sub-Mariner comics & appearances
shadroch replied to Frisco Larson's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
I've always had vague memories of having a Submariner " soldier" that I played with as a kid. I never put much thought into it and figured it was some other figure that I just used as Namor, thanks to my imagination. I know I had a Britons Confederate soldier I used to pretend was Captain America so it could have been any figure or soldier from the early to mid 1960s. My Fathers brother lived in Brazil for several years in the 1960s so now I'm wondering if he might have sent some of the figures up as Christmas presents. They are long long gone, with only vague memories remaining, as I said, but this thread has brought them back to the surface and it was fun reisiting them. -
Writers using pen names. The Horror!!!!! What would Stan Lee think of this?

Have you read Daredevil 7? DD has duked it out with Namor and the Hulk, as well as Doctor Doom and maybe even Thor.

Thanks, but those are all reprints. -
Are there any obscure SA Yellow costume Daredevil appearances?
shadroch replied to shadroch's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
The 53 is a flashback, and isn't really what I'm interested in, but since it appears to be the only book I'm missing and is pretty cheap in mid-grade I might as well grab one. Thanks for the help. -
