  1. My first job, I made $1.85 an hour and worked about ten hours a week. A hours work allowed me to buy 9 Marvels, at their 20 cent cover price. That January, minimum wage went up to $2.10, but comics were soon 25 cents so my purchasing power actually went down. At $15, your son can only buy two or three new comics per hour.
  2. No, it is not. It's exactly the thread where I chose to post it.
  3. Did anyone notice the closing price of the Turok #1 in the MCS featured auction? It went for less than the cost of slabbing it.
  4. I'm not a big SS fan. I have maybe two dozen, but only a handful mean anything to me. I have an Avengers 4 signed by Stan and Joe, a German Cap #1 signed by Joe, and a Marvel Project Super Powers also signed by them. Most of the others I just picked up because the price was right.
  5. I got into a huge fight with the folks from Desert Wind over this. I paid them to get Herb Trimpe and Len Wein to do a Hulk 181 sketch, using a blank variant they supplied. When I went to pick it up, there was a box of them. Some 9.8s, some 9.6s, some 9.4s. He handed me a 9.4 ad explained the books had been individually assigned before the sketches were done and it was all the luck of the drawer. Frankly, I didn't believe him and told him so. That was maybe 5 years ago and it still pisses me off.
  6. It does't matter what they are selling for. What matters is what you sell yours for. A lot of people here talk about pulling suddenly hot books out of their dreck boxes, but few people mention all the formerly hot books that you can now hardly give away.
  7. The tax codes skew in favor or business and even the smallest of the small should take full advantage of them. Embrace the tax code. Think of it as a musical instrument. It sounds horrible at first but put the time and effort into learning it and it can bring you joy. With the rise of prices draws more attention, you can be sure the IRS will want its share and sales tax people will be fishing around.
  8. Again, speaking only for myself, I date the Copper Age to the price increase to 60 cents., and end it when they hit a dollar. It's just book keeping.
  9. Marvel had a short transition period where they raised their price from 15 cents to 25 cents and the reduced it to 20 cents, so most titles have a single 52 page issue with a 25 cent cover price. Those issues start the Bronze Age, as far as I'm concerned Bronze Age DCs are a bit trickier. If it is a 52 pager, it is BA., but some people start it earlier with Green Lantern 76. Others may use different criteria.
  10. I'm giving you my grade, not what I think CGC might grade it. Good luck with them
  11. I don't think you will get a 1.5 on the Daredevil, and the Conan is borderline fine minus right now but press will do wonders.
  12. The 0.5 seems harsh but I don't think it will affect the price. People bidding on that book aren't going to be label chasers.
  13. The sculptures are from Alex Kalifno's studio in Las Vegas.
  14. $200 as is.It got knocked off the table and need to be spot welded or glued in two spots. Free domestic shipping
  15. I'd push the envelope a bit and say the era from 1985-1989 changed comics forever. While all the books in the article were essential to the growth of the hobby, The Batman movie was what made comics cool.
  16. Dr Strange. On the other side of the street, I'd nominate The Legion of Super-Heroes. They've been around 62 years and outside of Adventure 247, there is crickets. I picked up their 2nd app. yesterday for under $100. The first Super-Hero team of the Silver Age and they get little respect.
  17. I re-read the first twenty or so issues about two years ago. I really liked the art but the story didn't hold up well. I remember sticking with that title to the bitter end, and it was really bad.
  18. Buy sheep, sell deer. Once you understand that, you'll be halfway there.
  19. You mean the cover looked NM. Next time, flip thru it before you buy it.
