  1. Define desirable? I'm am betting Hulk 180 will double in price before 181 does. Does that make it a better investment?
  2. A visit to Grays Papaya and the Chicken and Rice guys on 6th Avenue should be mandatory, as well as the castle in Central Park.
  3. My pos copy went for $400. I called it a 1.8, MCS called it a 2, but in addition to the usual faults a 2.0 would have, somebody cut the first four wraps with a scissor. It was a $10 book not that long ago.
  4. If the Yankees make the post-season?
  5. I'd be in for $20 worth if no one takes them all. Random sampling, if possible.
  6. Just sold an 8.0 Giant Size Ms Marvel for $105. There are copies on eBay for half that. Any reasonable explanation?
  7. I'm pretty good at remembering individual purchases but often get pleasant surprises when going thru boxes. NTT 44 and Omega Men #3 keep popping up.
  8. Banks, financial companies, and casinos have to file a Cash Transaction Report for every cash transaction over $10,000. These are routine forms, forwarded and processed without a second thought. 99% are never even looked at. If an institution thinks you are structuring, or if they are suspicious of where you are getting the cash, they file a Suspicious Activity Report. These are not routine and each one is supposed to be followed through. The system is overwhelmed and unless you are sending money to the Middle East or known Islamic fronts, your paperwork will sit unexamined for many years if no one goes looking for it. These limits need to be adjusted for inflation as they have been in place since the early 1980s IIRC.
  9. Bob Storms has gotten me better prices than CL or Metropolis.
  10. I've bought a few books with the cases signed. I've never paid a premium for one, and in one case I erased the signature just to see what happened.
  11. I'm curious about that as well. Does anyone, as a seller, feel obligated to point out what printing a book is? Do you price them differently?
  12. I don't know Canadian banking at all. The U.S. tracks cash transactions of $10,000, not so much checks unless someone sees something suspicious.
  13. The independent shipping industry seems to be very shark infested waters. You put out word of what you have and people who are interested respond with offers. Seems simple but people misrepresent themselves. They might represent ten different independent drivers and simply haunt the sites, responding to anything. They work like the moving agents do. Misrepresentation and puffery appear to be industry standards. I'm am sure there are many hard working people in the field, but those people probably get to pick and choose their work. There doesn't appear to be a huge profit margin in it My store is two hours roundtrip off of Interstate 10, so I'm beginning to realize not everyone wants to make the trip and some of those who are willing are best avoided. Someone recommended I look into Mexican freight companies.
  14. A large check drawn on a foreign bank still takes a good deal of time.
  15. Forgive my rant, I have to let off some steam. So I am moving a three bedroom apartment, 600Sq. Ft. of stacked storage units, two cars and a dog 500 miles piecemeal. Hired a transporter for the first of four runs and things ended well but it was far from smooth. We talked about a second run but the timing didn't work, among other things. So I put out feelers and got a guy on his way to LA that would be going back to El Paso light. By text, I thought I was talking to the driver, but it turned out to be a dispatcher/ broker. I video the load, send it and am told $850 if I book right now. That's a really good price so I do. He said he will be there by 6PM. Thursday. I remind him he has to be in the complex by 5, and done by 730. Not a problem. 3PM I get a call from the driver, who was dispatched to the job and who didn't seem happy about it. In a five minute conversation, he twice mentioned this was taking him five hours out of his way. He said he'd be here this morning. He gets here nice and early and seems to be in a good mood. I meet him at the storage place where he flips out that everything is not on pallets. He tells me I have to load it myself and he wants $100 to strap the load up. I show him the video and the texts but he says he is an independent driver and has the right to turn down any job. I remind him he would have wasted a lot of his time if he doesn't take the job. We engage in some lively banter that evidently attached was interesting enough someone thought the police might be interested. Police don't really care why we are arguing, they just want us to take it down a bit. Driver is insistent that he won't help load and wants $100. I tell him I had been planning on tipping him at the end, but I no longer had confidence my stuff would be in good hands. Now I have to do this all over again.
  16. The book sold in mid June. At most, that is 45 days ago. Sadly, I've waited longer. A check that size drawn on a.foreign bank can take time to settle and after that, the shop needs to wait to make sure the book arrives safe and the buyer is satisfied. It's bad form but not an unreasonable length of time. The mid April part is meaningless. The book sold in mid June.
  17. Wasn't there a Spidey comic that someone spent crazy money for a certain Facilitator to get signed multiple times like that, and they ended getting the pages signed, not the cover. Or vice versa.
  18. Price them at ridiculous levels. You can always lower the price. I recently sold a few books through MCS. Priced them at what I thought was a very aggressive price but half of them sold in 48 hours. I left thousands on the table . Many of these programs are quite rare and while not in huge demand, there is a niche of collectors who recognize their scarcity. Can you easily replace them once sold? If not, price them high. I once had a pretty rare error copy of a Turtles book. I priced it very high figuring somebody would buy it. It got a lot of traction but o one bought it. After about six months and fifteen shows, I dropped the price 50%. A guy who had looked at the book twice at other shows came over, asked to see it and bought it. I had to bite my tongue when he told me about an a hole dealer at another show who wanted twice as much for a copy not nearly as nice as this one. By the way, be sure to check each program for autographs.
  19. I remember the Marvel Fanfare cover he did that upset everyone because he signed it Adams. Many fans thought there wasn't room in the industry for two Adams and accused Adams of trying to cash in on a legendary name. I absolutely loved Art Adams early work but it seemed like it never progressed. I like his early work much better than his later work, and haven't seen his modern work at all.
  20. Any guess what a 4.0 Mark Jewelers of SME 15 is worth this week? Years ago, I bought a mid grade collection for pennies. Sold most as fifty cent books but held few back. Pulled three out of the box - A TOD 10 in 3.0 and a WWBN 28 in 2.0. Those sold as soon as I listed them. Just consigned this one.
