  1. You do understand doug operates a consignment site, no? Not sure how you can say he doesn't handle other peoples money?
  2. Somebody from that company is posting almost daily in the events forum, pushing the Vegas show. Seems like they were hired to run the show. He has responded to any question I've asked, though the answers are not what I was hoping to hear.
  3. I thought he was anti-CGC? according to his listing he is: "I have NEVER "SLABBED" a book. I find it unnecessary to burden the buyer with the added cost of paying for an INCONSISTENT, UNDEFINED, and more importantly ---- an UNACCOUNTABLE "slabbing" service of DUBIOUS value ---- by a BIASED 3rd party." That's only a small part of the rant BTW. Slabbing would spot the restoration too so that's probably the main reason he doesn't like it. According to his listings, he doesn't regard 'archival tear seals' as restoration. These are merely 'conservation' according to his book descriptions. One could say that his eBay listings could be misleading to an unseasoned buyer when it comes to resto. He'll certainly acknowledge any repairs to books, but he just might not use the term 'restoration'. Does it really matter what he regards as restoration? It is what it is. But at least he acknowledges that the book has been altered - the same can't be said for some sellers. A rose by any other name He's acknowledging the resto but then also saying that no, its not really of any significance as to be identified as such, and in fact he has done the book a favor by 'conserving' it. Nonsense really. The fact that the guy resents CGC so much is because he is an old school Luddite dealer who would prefer to pass off any book without too much investigation of its makeup. Rest assured if there was no CGC, then there would be none of this 'conservation' rubbish in his listing descriptions. You are way off base with your last comment. Richie is a strange duck but he has been making his "conservation " notes on books since the early 1990s, at a minimum.Perhaps much earlier, he's been in the business since the mid-1970s. Its my understanding that he applies the same standards to his books as rare book dealers apply to their wares. That some "upstart' company like CGC uses a different standard means nothing to him.
  4. If you are going to go thru all that trouble, why insert a 9.0 book into the slab. Rough it up a bit and leave it in the sun for a few days. I dislike crooks, but hate stupid ones. It takes all the fun out of catching them. I assume this is the book from the Statue set that came out around 1999. I have one someplace, but is it an exact copy of the original?
  5. You don't. The microchamber is said to only function for seven years, so if you want it to do whatever it was you wanted it to do when you first installed it, you do need to change it every so often. If you don't care that it is inert and no longer working, you don't.
  6. I have about forty double covers of various comics and five triple covers. All my Triple covers are Avengers ranging from 39 to 106. I've never come across one in the wild. All mine were bought as DC or TCs.
  7. Logic and Cal. Quite an oxymoron, with a special emphasis on the latter part.
  8. CAL thought there were only a few hundred copies of this book that existed in high grade and thought he could corner the market. After he bought several hundred and he couldn't effect the market price, he realized he'd left out a zero or two from his initial calculations.
  9. Just when I was set to coronate Cal as Village insufficiently_thoughtful_person, RMA comes along to remind me the competition is far from over. You go, gurls (thumbs u
  10. Kudos to Hammacher Schlemmer. Several years ago I was suffering from plantar facistis or whatever its called. Its a very painful foot injury that feels like you are walking on pins and needles. I bought this device from hammacher that was supposed to help if you wore it while watching tv or resting. It was slightly effective but the pain didn't go away until I found the right inserts to put in my shoes. About two weeks ago, I refound this device after it sat in the back of a drawer for a few years. Remembering H@S offered a lifetime warranty on everything, I called them and the operator was able to locate the order number and which credit card I had used. She gave me a return authorization number and today I recieved a full credit for an item I bought at least five years ago
  11. you DID tell me to go play in traffic, now deny it. I wished I had bookmarked that thread, but did not. I am no one's fool. Don't ever forget that. I have my reasons for my zany banter here, and you can be a good part of this, or continue with your nonsense. I would NEVER step in a strip club anyway. never needed to, never will. CAL with certain standards I'm not denying it. I don't recall saying it and it doesn't sound like anything I would say, but who am I to argue with a boy who remembers every slight, real or imagined, that may or may not have occurred in his lifetime. I happen to like traffic. Why I would punish it by having you go play with it makes littles sense.
  12. Cal is an attention whore. He can get it here or he can go to his strip club and wave $50 bills around. Either way, he gets played for a sucker.
  13. The coinees have not done anything to me, why don't YOU go over there and entertain them? As you once told me, "go play in traffic". CAL who openly does not care for shad... .....but happily sends me his money whenever I offer an Iron Man and Submariner #1 for sale. As I've no wish to engage a person with such obvious mental problems, I should really put you on ignore, only I get such a kick out of reading your rambling non-sequiturs. Just for the record, Cal- I'm laughing at you, not with you. I honestly don't remember telling you to go play in traffic. I can't imagine what traffic might have done that I would wish you upon it.
  14. Dear Cal, This was so spectacular, I think you should continue posting these at least twice a day. Make that thrice a day. Perhaps you could expand these to the coin forums as well.
  15. I also prefer the CC model over the Link or eBays. An auction should end when there is one one bidder left.
  16. If you are bidding on Avenger 4 and want to bid on Avengers 5 if you lose, you are in trouble, but if your fallback is Avengers 25, you'll be fine.
  17. If I remember correctly thats when Kevin or Peter sold the original artwork for the entire TMNT 1 issue. Quite frankly I would definitely rather have that than a copy of action 1 or detective 27. If you can't find original art you can always use this... Man, I remember when the variant white cover of that book sold for $25 a pop. Now its not even listed in the PG. IMO that's what you want for this comic to wind up in the "dollar bin" . So they get bent up and flipped through. Then in a few years they are hard to find in high grade... ...I watched it happen with Marvels G.I. Joe. Ssshhhhhh..... Loose lips sink ships.

  19. There was a thread about an ashcan edition an artist that worked for Mirage or Tundra distributed to close friends that was an adults only book with nudity and some sex, as I recall.
  20. What are those? Comics Peter Laird drew while in school. If memory serves me, one of the characters in them was Wyrm, but he was a good guy. I've never seen them,or even a scan of them so I guess they are pretty rare.
  21. Are you looking for crossovers from the first series only? I'm looking for early Turtles appearences. They don't need to be crossovers, per say, but comics in which one or more Turtle appear prior to them going to Archie. I've listed the three I'm aware of, but am looking for any others. Any early Eastman/Laird work would be great, as well.
  22. DS claims that all Gold Keys from that era have Whitman counter-parts
  23. Without reading all 32 pages of this thread, is there a site that list the various Turtle appearences in other books? I know they are Miami Mice #4, and there is a pinup in Colt #2, as well as what I believe is there first color appearence in an issue of Grimjack, but are there others before the Archie series?
