  1. Anyone have a guesstimate what round trip shipping for 1800 books from NY is going to run?
  2. I hope they film at the real House on the Rock.
  3. Is this guy in the league of Hammer aka Comic Keys?
  4. I voted no because I don't think the CGC board should act as the policeman of the comic world. That's my stance. The one board member affected has received his money back and retains ownership of the book. I'm quite certain my view will be the minority . So be it.
  5. Can people be put on this for off board transactions?
  6. Best part is it's $5 on Tuesday and Wednesday, all day and if you are 50, it's $4 until 6 pm weekdays.
  7. Saw the movie today. First I need comment on the theater. It was one of 12 in a casino multiplex, one is IMAX, one is some special 3D and then you have ten smaller rooms. My room had 36 seats and room for six wheel chairs. Fully reclining leather seats with footrest, and they sell wine and beer. As for the movie, it had some fun moments, and some ultra violent moments, but I'd give it a C at best. It wanders far from the source and has too many leaps of faithful for my taste. I liked Civil War better, as flawed as that was.
  8. I will own a Cap 1. I may own a Marvel 1. Ask which is the more important book and I'll say Marvel. Which would I want- Cap.
  9. Okay, my fault. I guess I wasn't clear enough. Are there examples of DC direct Market being different from newsstand copies in the early 1980s. All the examples shown are from 84/85 on.
  10. How about earlier examples? When Marvel first went to the little diamond, for example
  11. The same as Marvel. Newsstand copies have UPCs. As do the direct market ones, no?
  12. How does one differentiate a copper age DC direct from it'd newsstand brethren?
  13. I remember an early meeting of the East Coast Comic Book Retailers where a guy we invited was talking about the test priced books of the 1970s and how they would be highly sort after. Most of us scoffed at his suggestion.
  14. I believe the chart tracks percentage of sales, not total sales. I spoke to an old Marvel staffer about this and he thought 1987 was the year Marvels DM sales surpassed News stands, but when you consider all the Direct Only books- First, Eclipse, Warp and a thousand other publishers, that it was 86 or so. Certainly not a definitive answer but he was in position to see Marvels sales.
  15. I read where Marvel discontinued their newsstand versions, and said they were only about 1% of the total print run the last few years. IF that's true, considering the shape the average newsstand copy is in, these are even rarer than the 1 in 100 Variants people are paying big bucks for. I know people are attaching premiums to newsstand copies, but should they be higher?
  16. Isn't he involved in that other comic organization. Does it still exists?
  17. Using free USPriority supplies for anything but their specific purposes is a violation of law. I imagine Canada would not participate in an illegal act.
  18. Someone had a full set at a recent show. They were asking $125. It gathered some interest but didn't sell. At breakdown, he was offering it for $75. I'd have bought it for $40. I might be interested if anyone has a full set to sell.
  19. Instead of buying boxes, buy more comics and use the boxes they get shipped in.
  20. Are you shipping from Canada or the USofA? USPS offers free shipping supplies.
  21. Be careful of a CGC purchase with tape. You need to look up the date it was graded. If it was before CGC changed their policy on tape, the book is most certainly overgraded. As Joey just mentioned, their current policy will downgrade for the flaw the tape is masking. Previously, this was not true. I do not remember when CGC changed their policy, maybe two years ago ? I don't think they are over-graded, but they won't re-grade the same.
  22. Hey, I'm looking for some advice here. In October, I started what I intended to be my largest sale ever. Had a few dozen items listed, and about $200 in sales when my mother passed away quite unexpectedly. Soon after something else came up, and I just was not in the mood to continue the sale or ship many of the items already sold. To be clear- each and every item I invoiced out and got paid for was shipped. One item was invoiced but never paid for so it didn't ship and about a dozen items were not invoiced, not paid for and not shipped. I fully recognize the fact I screwed up and will be reaching out to the people who ordered books but didn't get an invoice. They will have the choice of taking the books at a steep discount or forgetting about it but still get a future discount or some other way of making it up to them. So my idea for this upcoming sale would be something radical. To insure the books go out in a timely manner, I'm thinking about making this sale a pay after delivery sale. You pick the books you want, I ship them and when they arrive, you pay me via paypal. Obviously I am not going to do this for a person whose first post in in the sales thread, so what do you think a qualifier should be? I'm thinking along the lines of they must be a member for around 90 days, with 200 posts, or multiple good kudos. I'm sure there can be some exceptions made for long time lurkers. This will be mainly $2 or less books, TPBs and HCs and such. Not books worth hundreds of dollars. Thoughts? Insults? Questions?
  23. What is the biggest book you should have but for whatever reason don't have? Mine is easy- Hulk 181. I sold my 7.5 a couple of years ago and while I'm looking to replace it, I cant find one at a price i'm willing to pay.
  24. How stupid. Can't believe they retconed that mess. They were 15 or 16 when the Legion started. I loved that plot twist. I'm not sure how one can not question Superboy and Supergirl being in a group a thousand years after they die, but think bringing a villain back forty years into the past is stupid. Especially when one of their main enemies is The time trapper who seemingly glides thru time.
