  1. No, but putting kav on your show would ensure ratings.
  2. The easiest way to get your own reality show is to be in the cast of another one. Get on Carbs show and be outlandish. Then you can get your own show and introduce the world to the dynamo that is kav.
  3. Around 1991, I bought a FF 48 off him in a package deal of about five books. In 2005, or so, I sent it in to get slabbed. It came back 7.5, Restored- tears sealed, slight color touch. At a show a few months later, I casually mentioned it to him. He asked me what I paid for it and offered me the purchase price back in free stuff off his table and told me to keep the book. He said if I couldn't find anything I wanted, he'd give me back cash. I took the merchandise and thought he was quite generous about it. A purple FF 48 in 2005 was still worth several times the purchase price.
  4. Creation has been around since about 1970. They stopped doing comic shows a long time ago to concentrate on Star Trek and celebrity shows. These days, they do about a dozen shows a year, with themes like Star Trek, Vampires, Supernatural and that sort. Their Vegas Star Trek show is gigantic.
  5. Gives me the impression of a fast talking used car salesman whereby your Spidey sense would be tingling like mad every time he opens his mouth. Sometimes, too much passion sends the wrong message. That's my impression too. Passionate? Sure. Used car salesman about to screw you in any possible deal? Absolutely. I wouldn't trust a word out of his mouth if there was any even discussion of a deal. I've done many a deal with Mikey Carbo and never had an issue or a regret. Have you ever done one?
  6. When the powers that be at Marvel decided Peter Parker needed a bachelor party before his Shea Stadium wedding, there was only one person that could handle the job. Send for Carbo!
  7. Was this a real Wizard show or did they simply license their name out, ala Trump?
  8. Under rule 16, do you think this would be acceptable? Box will contain 10 HG BA Marvels, an equal amount of VGish books, a dozen or more Mainstream TPBs and three shrinkwrapped Marvel Hard Covers? If the box doesn't meet your expectations, return it for a full refund.
  9. This is the essence of why mystery box sales are untenable. In order for the seller to make the concept workable he'll have to create enough winner boxes to appease the buyers but will have to balance that value with loser boxes. It is those who get screwed in the deal that are going to come into this thread and complain, and the administrators of this site should spare themselves the headache by disallowing them completely. A successful sales thread is when the seller and all buyers are satisfied, not just those that "won". That is not true, at all. Most dealers have lots of surplus inventory they can spin I to these boxes. Does Bulo send out winning boxes and losing boxes? Does Wizard? There is no reason why every box can't be a winning box. I've got 10,000 bronze age Marvels that I'm into for a quarter. Just bought 1000 tpbs or under a buck each. A box with $150 worth of bronze books and $150 worth of trades cost me under $20. No reason why somebody has to lose. My last box had a VF Defenders 10, Turtles 3 and 4(first prints), a 9.6 Secret Wars 3, a signed and authenticated Stan Lee book and much more. I handpicked each box to ensure the buyer got value. I wasn't aware buyers were having issues with other sellers. I understand it better now.
  10. I'm not leaving. I just won't be reinvesting the money I made here back into the boards. The main reason I sold the mystery boxes was to be able to use the money to buy stuff here. The more I sold here , the more I bought. I've PM'd Arch several times about this and he never once responded to me. I had been beta marketing a monthly mystery box subscription, and gotten most positive response to it from the people in the loop. I imagine word of mouth will continue to get to the folks that are interested in it. The last box I sent weighed 24 pounds and I could have sold MCS 12 of the books for $216. Buyer got another 23 pounds of books and only paid $200 for the box , shipped. I pretty much lost money on every box, but liked the community feeling of it. Every time I get a box that I'm uncertain of what's in it brings me back to the Christmas and birthdays of my youth. If money was that important, I'd have consigned the stuff to any number of places. I put a good deal of time and thought into each box and enjoyed doing it. It was much more fun than pulling comics from a list somebody ordered from. Pulling fifty books that someone ordered isn't fun. Putting together a mystery box is. It's really that simple. Its just a shame some people don't get it. Just to clarify- By losing money, I mean I left money on the table. That I could have sold the contents for more, not that a $200 box cost me $210 or anything like that. I tried to maintain a 15-20% profit level on each box.
  11. I just did some checking. I sold a bit over $4,000 worth of mystery boxes in the last year. Had exactly one complaint, and I offered to make good or refund the price. I've spent about $5,000 on books directly from the boards and another $3,000 on books I first saw here that were on ebay from board members. If my products are no longer welcome, I'll vote with my wallet and no longer buy here either. Not exactly a win-win situation for anyone.
  12. I thought it was just sour grapes from someone who's had exactly one sale in his own "going out of business" sales thread... Doesn't one have to be in business before they can conduct such a sale?
  13. Maestro Net offered a lot of, I believe, six hundred copies of what they promoted as the best of the best copies of SW#1. They supposedly came from an undistributed hoard of several thousand.
  14. I'd forgotten about it until I saw your thread. I took a photo of it off the net and its in the modern for sale forum.
  15. I bought one of these a few years ago for my nephew. When I came across it unopened in his garage a couple of years later, I bought it from him for $10. Think it was in 2004, but they were made in 2002. http://thumbs2.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/moeEgtEYCTbI_Bq_7g29n0g.jpg
  16. I prefer buying Omnibi, or Archives of the series. The problem with collecting runs of Marvels from the 80s onward is there are gazillions of crossovers. If you were to just read Amazing Spider-Man during the long ,drawn out Clone fiasco, you'd be utterly lost as the story shifts between a half dozen books. I've long since given up on full runs. too much money and space. Now I concentrate on classic covers and or battle covers. Best of luck to you. Take your time and remember you can always change your focus whenever you choose. I was within reach of having every Marvel from the 12 cent era to the end of the 25 cent era( or what I once called modern books) when I realized I needed to spend thousands of dollars on a few books to accomplish a goal that I no longer cared about.
  17. I wonder how many second copies were bought by people just to get the stamps? I know I bought several issues strictly because they had a stamp I needed.
  18. Then you have not looked very far. Many charities offer these coupons in return for donations. Big Brothers does, as well as others. I know nothing about this particular charity, but these giveaways are quite common. The last bike ride I worked with had ten of these certificates that were raffled off amongst the riders. Here is another example http://www.kars4kids.org/vacation-voucher.asp
  19. The original Nova series, circa 1976, was based in Hempstead, NY. Im not sure why they choose it. Both the writer and artist were from Long Island, but the Hempstead in the series was nothing like the real life village.
  20. For the .most part, he wouldn't have any original art pages as Marvel didn't return them.
  21. Has a hand written Ditko letter been offered up at auction in recent times? I'd like to have one, but feel it best to respect his privacy.
  22. I don't believe I've ever held a raw Church book.
  23. Has anyone ever come across any fake coding? It would seem to be easy enough to duplicate if you had a high grade book.
  24. Kav, Mr Church didn't pick books off the newsstand. He had the agent pull books for him to be picked up later. I understand your need to post in every thread, but do you ever stop to think the harm your misinformation might do?
