  1. (thumbs u How do you handle shows like NY or SD? Do yo drive the van or ship them out?
  2. Grading goes both ways. Its not fair or accurate to say a book in a different slab will come back from CGC in a lower grade.
  3. In some cases, FOX books have been given higher grades by CGC. In other cases, they have come back lower. In still others, The book inside a PHD slab turned out to be something other then what the label says. It's a crapshoot, because it's a company.
  4. Yes, but it was from Stan's scripts. Stan had nothing to do with the Vision... ... I took the "Stan's scipts" post above as being a tongue-in-cheek, prodding reference to the ol' "Stan did Everything" / "Jack did Everything" debate which is a perennial favorite around these parts... I wasn’t trying to get into that debate, just wanted to keep the record straight; I wasn't sure how that post was meant to be taken. I imagine there’s people out there who may not realize he started out as the office gopher. As opposed to what? Do you think that anyone believes he walked in and become editor in chief and the main writer ?
  5. I stopped being a complete run collector years ago. Now I buy omnis.
  6. I buy almost exclusively for investment, but don't buy " hot" books. I buy whats cold and sell when they get hot. Recently I've been selling early Hank Pym books for stupid money and buying pre-1964 Fantastic Fours at bargain basement prices. Except for #15, which is hot because Mr Pym is in it.
  7. Looking for opinions on a sale i'm thinking of having.I have about 25 Omnibi, a couple hundred modern hardcovers, softcovers and assorted TPBs and under copies of SA/BA books. I'd like to donate some of the proceeds to The Hero Initiative. Somewhere along the line of 10% if the sale brings in $1,000 and 25% if it brings in $2,000. I'm not sure how to word it or if its an idea people will person_without_enough_empathy about. Any ideas? I am leaning towards an auction, rather that a straight sales thread.
  8. I think we would all like to know as much info as possible. But for the OP's bottom line, discretion will likely have more benefits so how do I show my success while keeping transactions discreet? the formulas you mentioned? Post photos of your new girlfriends and the cars you are driving.
  9. Very well done! (thumbs u Double Plus Good!
  10. Perhaps you should read the entire forty pages. It appears there is much you have to learn. Not only is it possible to slide out the labels on many slabs, on some slabs its quite easy to do so. Its been documented many times over the last decade. CGc turns a blind eye to it, assuming most people will assume it cant be done.
  11. I use a kitchen knife.I don't really try to pop the book without breaking the posts, but I think a good percent of my opened slabs could pass as unopened. Especially to the uninformed , at a show. i have little doubt a professional thief would have a much higher percentage.
  12. Seems like its a consignment so MCS should know who it is. No need to disclose that to us, but if the book has been tampered with they can let CGC know the persons id.
  13. I've bought books from John Dolmyan, drummer of System of a Down. Wasn't he the owner of Torpedo Comics?
  14. I sold Jim Starlin a few pieces of Gallo pewter at a show. Tom DeFalco was a semi regular at my shop, and when I managed the shop in Puerto Rico, Ricky Martin, Robbi Rosa and some of the other members of Menudo would come by after hours. The pro wrestlers The Missing Link , SD Jones and Rocky Johnson used to stop by but hardly ever bought anything.
  15. I'd buy them in a heartbeat, if the price was right and the conditions right.
  16. I do the same. What's your method for reusing them? Do you put a book in with a bag and board or do you some something more fancy? Bag with a mylite or mylar. Nothing fancy.
  17. I'll buy some slabbed books if they are really cheap and crack them open just to reuse the shells.
  18. Mycomicshop allows people who consign to set their own prices. Many set crazy prices for whatever reason. When speaking about MCS's prices, you have to distinguish between the prices they put on books and what a consigner does.
  19. Why are you guys bothering? You don't really think he is going to see the light, do you?
  20. If Tec 27 is a swipe, what does that make Kirbys AF 15 cover?
  21. Do artists need permission to draw a companies characters?
  22. Like I said, take it on down to the Copper Age forum and say the same to everyone with a fake Cerebus. Anybody in the CA bragging about selling thousands of fake comics? On the one hand you are claiming to be a small time hustler, but then you say if I see anyone wearing a fake Submariner, chances are you sold it. At least you aren't selling crack, right? You say alibaba has to stop selling this sort of stuff if it ever wants to go legit, but seem to think its okay for you to sell them. Its a victimless crime. Right? Somebody would sell them anyway so why not you. Its a dumb law anyway.
  23. A Rolex or any other similar watch is a status symbol. Why anyone would want a fake status symbol is beyond me. It would be kool to have ten grand to blow on a watch, but I think its stupid to try and pass off a fake as anything but a fake.. Anyone who knows anything about Rolexes and their movements will spot a fake in a heartbeat. I recently saw a house where the owner put up a fake brickfront ten feet on either side of the front, so as you drive down the road, the house appears to be twenty feet wider than it really is. I imagine that for the same money, he could have added a real room to the house. How insecure can you get. Each and every day, I appreciate the time my parents took to instill in me the ability to recognize right from wrong and to do the right thing. I can only hope my kids learned their lessons too.
