  1. Even in blackjack, insurance is a bad bet.
  2. Your wife makes good money. I agree with you, but she can buy you insurance for your next birthday if she wants. I haven't looked at term rates in years, but they were ridiculously cheap for non-smokers last I looked.
  3. I'll be thrilled if they make much money off me and never have to pay off a dime—especially my life insurance.
  4. I might price one at $10 and the others at $5. I sell at many non-traditional venues, so I'm curious how my pricing will align with that of the twenty or so other vendors. My supplier seems to have an endless supply of issues 1-6.
  5. I'm doing the Tucson show tomorrow and have three priced at $5 each. If they don't sell, you are welcome to them. The only spawns I've moved lately are newsstand copies, but the comic market is very regional.
  6. I can buy fresh copies for less. The problem is selling them. It is harder to find a Spawn 1 in VG than it is to find a NM one.
  7. The problem, at least for me, is that one person showed up here with one ID and gave an email. Then another person showed up, didn't say they had anything to do with the first person, and gave the same email. Later, when confronted, they claimed to be associates. I've no idea what is true or not, but the way they came to this thread seemed shady, at least to me. I've been wrong before, and will be wrong again, and this may be one of those occasions, but something doesn't feel right here.
  8. You had a book worth $51,000 and were offered $37,000 for it? That's about 67% of its value, money in your pocket today. I've no idea what you are complaining about. Do you think a dealer should give you 100%? 90%? What book was it? There are $50,000 books that are red hot and others that aren't. What should a dealer pay you for a $51,000 book? What do you think is a fair profit for the person laying out $37,000? With the market falling as it is, how long before that $51,000 book is down to $48,000? You can put $37,000 into several ETFs and get 10% dividends, so what is a fair number, in your opinion?
  9. As I look at it- when you have young kids, it's almost impossible to have too much insurance, but once they are grown, you can cut way back. Shadowboxing, especially with one-pound dumbells is an incredible workout you can even do in a chair. I just bought a rowing machine. It arrived a few days ago, but I'm preparing for two shows this weekend, so it is still in the box.
  10. Things like this make me wonder if CGC is in this to make money.
  11. I had a hard time getting life insurance in my forties as I was very overweight, smoked, drank, with high blood pressure and had a bad family history. I heard an ad from a guy named Big Lou who claimed he could get insurance for people like us, and he did. I got a million-dollar policy and a second key-person policy for the business. He still advertises, but I dropped the insurance years ago. His rates were great when I used him. If and when you pay off your mansion, 3X salary should be plenty if it is just your wife.
  12. I enjoyed my few conversations with him, and I wish I'd had more. He'd forgotten more about this hobby and its history than I'll ever know. Rest in Peace.
  13. I love my timeshare. Best hundred dollars I've ever spent.
  14. Having insurance is important, but remember the insurance company isn't your friend and will try not to make payouts. If you applied for insurance and said you were a non-smoker, don't be showing up on the internet with a cigarette in your hands. Your insurance needs will change throughout your life, and you should make adjustments. If you are 55 and your kids are grown, you may not need as much as when they were young. Insurance is to provide for your family if you can't. Insurance is no longer necessary when your assets are enough to do that. It might be a luxury you can afford, but it isn't necessary. On the other hand, it is possible to build wealth by buying incredible amounts of life insurance and borrowing against it. It's not something I understand, and don't endorse it, but I've seen a few people do it successfully.
  15. My very first comic. It was coverless and I couldn't read but I soon had it memorized. It had a missing centerfold that greatly effected the story but I still cherished it.
  16. I believe you can only do it once every seven years so his 2020 bankruptcy helps your case
  17. I've no dog in this fight, but something smells wrong. I hope Mike's real victims are careful and don't fall victim to another scam. I don't want to fight over this. I'm just reminding everyone to do their due diligence and act as if mike is listening, because I'm confident he is.
  18. When was the last time you shipped 150 orders in an afternoon?
  19. I'm not aware of any company using regional printers. It would hurt the economy of scale. Printing 500,000 copies at one site is much cheaper than 125,000 at four different plants, mainly because of the setups involved. Most SA/BA books were printed in Sparta, Ill. In the copper age, some independents used different plants, and a plant in Canada started being used for upscale printing. Someone else can fill in about GA and modern printing, as I know next to nothing about them.
  20. The Great and Powerful CEEGEESEA has spoken. They realized there might be some bucks in getting those 178 copies reslabbed and moved quickly to make it happen. Does anyone want to guess what the fees would bring in if 100 copies are regraded?
  21. If it has good pictures, I'd look at them.
  22. Not nearly as much as packing and shipping 150 orders.
  23. Have you done this before? If not, I'd start with a much smaller listing.
