This Week In Your Plastic Crack, Action Figures and Toy Collection
shadroch replied to Buzzetta's topic in Comics General
I have not identified the two large Indians, but they are incredibly detailed. Blue figure is most likely from a 1950s Fort Apache set. The other is known as a ring hand, as it's hands allow for interchangeable weapons. -
This Week In Your Plastic Crack, Action Figures and Toy Collection

Recent finds, fresh from a vinegar bath. The three brown ones are six-inch Marx, circa late 1950s/early 1960s. The Yellow one is an unknown maker from the same era. These were sold individually, where the small figures came as part of a playset. Marx had playsets in the $5-$7 range, but offered a deluxe version of most. The smaller cowboys are mid-1950s Lido and the nazi is from a 1963 Marx Desert Fox playset. -

Only those willing to risk going too far can determine how far they can go. Artists like Miller, Giffin, and Bill Sienkiewicz could have stuck to imitating Kirby and Starlin, but they struck out in their own direction. I don't like their new styles, but I appreciate how they evolved. Daredevil was forty-five years ago. I'm sure all of us are vastly different than we were in 1979. So is Miller. -

Batman, pre-Miller was dead. It was one of the lower-selling DC titles but Miller changed that. -

You didn't sell football tickets; you sold unwanted personal property and can offset it with sales of other personal property. -
Trying to get better at grading

Have you looked at the notes on the book? CGC grades the whole book. You are looking at the cover. -

A star is paid $50,000 for a convention appearance. A company pays $100,000 for someone to fly to their hq for a signing. Are these 1099 events? -
Auction has just started and set a new record for Action #1.

If the buyers were bidding on it because of its historical aspects, I'd be thrilled. I'm fairly sure the bidders are more concerned about its future ROI than anything else. -

MAX is having a 40% off sale on its annual plans. You can get one with ads for under $70 a year. The price seems to be good for both new and existing customers so if you are paying more........- 258 replies

I think he lost it when writing Robocop 2. Perhaps I shouldn't say I lost it as much as he moved in directions I didn't appreciate. -

I like that Miller draws his signature rather than signs it. -

Tell me about this profit thing. I've always found it a very elusive creature. It's like bigfoot, always around the next corner. -
Talking about collecting underground comics
shadroch replied to DRex33's topic in Bronze Age Comic Books
Many undergrounds have multiple editions, so you need to be knowledgeable to avoid costly mistakes. It's a niche within the hobby.- 17 replies

New Tax Reporting ($600 Threshold per year) and Consignments
shadroch replied to telerites's topic in Comics General
The advantage of having a good preparer is that they know to ask the right questions. One year, my mom had her taxes done by a library volunteer and owed hundreds. My sister reviewed the paperwork and reminded my mom of many things she hadn't brought up. -

Do you have insurance? Did you drive to the convention? Pay admission? Did you buy a Mylar and board for it? Did you subscribe to GPA or another price guide? Did you drive to the PO when it was sold? These are all legitimate expenses that factor into the cost of your goods. -

Most audits are random. It won't matter if you reported $15,000 or $500,000. If the return is targeted, you get audited. -
I liked the image and said I would look for a litho or a print. However, they don't seem to exist, and I have no interest in hanging a comic page. I've no idea what the fuss is about.

A quick search didn't reveal any prints or lithos.

New Tax Reporting ($600 Threshold per year) and Consignments
shadroch replied to telerites's topic in Comics General
The $600 limit wasn't small when set, but it shrinks with inflation every year. In 1978, the IRS declared that Winning bets over $600 had to have taxes withheld. It hasn't changed in nearly fifty years, although $600 is now worth almost $3,000 today. -
I no longer send MCS raw books, except for the fodder I see that they are buying. The books are worthless to me so if they give me .70 for a VF or .28 cents for a VG, it's still something for nothing. Only recently have I noticed books they sold as VF now being graded lower when repurchased?

I have never read books, nor have I seen the original movie. It looks interesting enough, and I'll watch it as soon as it streams on the platform I get.
