Are prices still climbing or have they eased up a bit???
Northwest replied to InfantTerrible's topic in Comics General
SA to MA has been in a correction from pandemic highs yes. Price reversion to the mean (of trend) was inevitable as supply increased and demand normalized. Recession is a technical economic term for GDP contraction across multiple consecutive quarters. -

Fair point, however, we are not yet in a recession and what may be potentially influencing price shifts is a combination of increased supply as well as higher interest rates. Those factors are more persistent than GDP fluctuations. -
Hi here is one documentary to consider about pulp magazines. You'll want to screen it prior to ensure it's age appropriate https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0485978

How many years on average when you overpay…tec225
Northwest replied to BlackOut21's topic in Comics General
To reassure you, a Tec 225 4.5 might already be approaching a 5k fmv in the near future. A 3.5 went for 3,600 today (3/15/23). Also, you get the enjoyment of owning the book which provides value. Congrats on a great book. -

FYI The cap 3 6.5 was conserved hence the comp difference -

Fair points and I largely agree. My comment was relative to BA/CA/MA markets, GA has provided selective collectors with more favorable market conditions. The common factor is demand relative to supply; genres such as western and cartoon (outside of early Disney and Archie) also have a demand side issue. For higher tier keys, the potential buyer pool is more limited, which often leads to variance (see the Cap 1 7.0 at CL vs CC this month).

Hyperbole aside, the supply side scarcity does insulate GA from other eras. Even in lower demand cycles, golden age has held up reasonably well.

One sold on Heritage on 2 20/23 for 408. I count nearly 30 sales in 2023 between 350 - 500. The sale you cited is an outlier, and suggests something else may be artificially resulting in the 1k sale

Funko pops to pitch 30M of inventory into a landfill!
Northwest replied to Robot Man's topic in Comics General
Agreed - artificial scarcity is not sustainable, and Funko should be more responsible for their choices. Funko's judgement and choice here may hurt their brand more than a donation ever would. -
ComicLink's next Featured Auction Has Started Posting Books

Yes, it is low. Last 7.0 went for 312k in May '22 on HA. Most recent sale is a 4.5 which did 194k in December '22. In terms of reasons why: there are a finite pool of buyers at this level, so potentially it was a visibility and timing issue? I view this as an outlier on the low side. -

While this is true in terms of character origins, I do think it's beneficial to take a longer historical view. Modern superheroes started in comics, and had influences from characters in pulps dating back decades including Shadow, Doc Savage, and many others. The original publishers of both DC and Timely worked on pulps before shifting to comics. The roots of superheroes date back well before the term was coined and well prior to pulps; Western folk literature and Mythology contain a number of heroes with superhuman powers. Yes, it is true that collector markets have their own lifecycles; paper also doesn't persist forever. That being said, superheroes appear to be grounded in culture in a way that transcends any particular generation. The emotions evoked when young children are inspired by superheroes builds upon something deeper. That is why I believe comics, while cyclical, will transcend the traditional cycle that afflicted other collectible markets as they age. Time shall tell, and history is a helpful guide when we take a longer view.
