Looks like I might be getting a bag signed instead of a comic then lol.

If you send something to a Signature Series signing you can't just send the comic i a regular board and bag?

I couldn't find a thread like this (outside of commissioned work) so I thought I'd start one. Share your favorite convention sketches you've gotten from artists over the years. There may not be conventions we can go to but why not make an artist's alley! (Personally I like the mess and impressionism of a sketch to a polished work many times). Below are a few of mine:

I just wanted to update this thread for others that may be interested. I received my first online order from MyComicShop.com. Much improved shipping over TFAW.com. Photo below. The cardboard box has foam corners, the board and bagged comics came wrapped in another plastic bag with cardboard between them and the bottom/top of the box with more paper to even out the spacing between edges. The books themselves while having a little chipping on a corner at the spine for a few books came as well as can be expected without being in person to make a selection. Overall I'm pretty happy with it.

I was going through some sketch books I had from going to conventions as a kid in the 90s (literally I think I may have been 12yrs old). Can anyone identify this artist? It looks like it's signed 'James Biggs' or 'Jamie Biggs' but I'm not sure. I can't find anything for either on the Marvel Artist database. Did this person ever ended up working in comics? I've found some original artwork images credited to a Jamie Biggs on various sites but I can't tell if these were commissions are actually used in various issues. Can anyone provide some background on this guy's career (important issue runs, covers etc)? Thanks!

I really wish Image would reprint these in HC. So many people talk about this series but it seems difficult to come by any collected volumes.

This is more of a suggestion than a question. Given a lot of CGC SS events don't require a membership (and they're not cheap) it would be nice to see some things done for members that are a bit special. Maybe a free custom label (for members) in honor of the person signing (example: a custom Spawn CGC SS label for a Todd McFarlane signing etc). You could also obviously charge for these to non-members who want them.

My original post probably didn't frame this well. This isn't about saving a buck between equals. There are particular books I know I'll want CGC'd before they come out. A LCS in many cases isn't going to order enough of a particular book to guarantee you a CGC worthy copy - that's the point of ordering online and I typically go through ebay to find a pristine raw copy of something I want graded. The problem is you incur a lot of shipping costs going through multiple ebay sellers thus I wanted to know about people's experience with larger online retailers who will have large stocks to pull the best quality copies from to fill an order that may ask for that level of product. Feel free to collect however you like to collect - and let others do the same. Your LCS experience and sense of gratification is going to be different from others.

I can't really speak to Lee's DC work because I really only heavily collected in the 90s as a kid, but in the way that everyone associates Mcfarlane with Spider-man obviously Lee's association will always be with X-Men in my mind. I can't imagine that any DC work including Hush was anywhere close to his X-Men numbers or (to use a nebulous term) - impact. So even though X-Men #1 wraparound isn't tough to get in itself - it does seem like that's the key iconic book to have Lee's signature on. If you wanted more rarity maybe UXM 266's cover or his first UXM 248 would be harder to find 9.8s for. However all that said, and all these years later I tend to agree with the below comment about the lack of design chops for Lee's covers and really just an inability to express much range of emotion (though not as bad as someone like Liefield). Having not collected during the DC years it's hard for me to look at Batman #608 as a cover and imagine wanting it signed or even to display it. It just comes off as such an uninspired stereotypical batman image. Personally after an X-Men #4 or #1 to get signed and ebay'd - I'd probably keep an X-Men #1 signed for myself and get something more idiosyncratic signed to keep next to it (examples below). For me what's most collectible is not what the market or other collectors assign the most value or importance to but just my personal taste in what had the most impact on me (which is why we love comics and the artists that make them right?). (A gold wildcats 1 might be a fun addition to what's below as well). But if you're going to draw a wad of superheroes on a cover why not make it foil and try to hypnotize people? Like a magic eye but with muscles.

DCB had some positive reviews, one or two that complained about books not being shipped out months after they were released though. I'll probably try them out for their trade paperbacks at some point. Right now I'm waiting on an order from mycomicshop.com. We'll see how it goes. I just received a small order from tfaw.com (Things From Another World) yesterday. Awful shipping. Terrible customer support. Before I even placed the order I called them to ask about their shipping and whether they used Gemini mailers (geminicomicsupply.com). They said verbatim: 'Yeah, we use cardboard mailers.' Apparently this is what they meant: The books are completely unusable for CGC and don't even pass VF condition to my mind. I wouldn't even care if this were just the post office's mishandling but the fact that gemini mailers are common place among bedroom sellers on ebay and the 3rd largest retailer (according to their website) of comics can't be bothered with basic competent shipping practices is inexcusable. The damage to the books was entirely preventable with even modest professionalism. All I can say is I'm glad I didn't order a variant cover or signed copy of anything that would cost real money and definitely will never use 'Things From Another World,' again for anything. Lesson learned.

Where do people recommend buying online for new books that may come in as close to mint as possible? I realize even new books come with issues. But I'm wondering what peoples' experiences are with online buying. Who packages well? Who consistently ships top quality condition stuff? Etc. Etc. I tend to just go to my local shop but there are some books coming out on the horizon (from some favorite artists) I wanted to get slabbed and the online prices are a bit tempting over looking at the retail shelf. Thanks. In addition to Marvel the 4 I mentioned (DC, Image, Valiant and Dark Horse) would be nice to have - specifically in conjunction with some signing events e.g. a Wildcats or Batman Label to go with a Jim Lee signing, a Maxx label to go with a Sam Kieth signing, a Bone label to go with a Jeff Smith signing etc. etc. (New Netflix Bone series coming btw) Something around Xmas for this would be killer.

Just wondering since CGC offers the custom Marvel Labels why DC, Image, Valiant or Dark Horse aren't also offered. Are there any future plans?
