  1. If difference in value is the real problem. Its buyers to blame. One ought not to pay the same price for a majorly restored book (ie. pieces added, major color touch, spine reinforcement, leaf casting) as a minimally restored book (ie. minor color touch).
  2. Color touch and tear seals are different, they actually "restore" a book in the sense of the word. Restore- "return (someone or something) to a former condition, place, or position." Tape isn't restoration because the comic never had tape on it in the first place. The tape is a straight up addition. Color touch however is an addition that makes up for the absence of ink, you aren't just adding a defect you are replacing what is now faded, or broken ink. The comic is being "return[ed] to a former condition." Which is not the case with tape. Color touch is restoration, and should always be considered that. I am against a JIM 83 going from a 6.0 to a 3.0 and the destruction of its presentableness as well, however I'm more against restoring it in the first place. The issue here isn't, "stop grading minor amounts of color touch as restored." Its, "stop restoring comics (unless necessary ie. 1.0/0.5s)." Comics wouldn't need to be defaced if they weren't restored in the first place, I wouldn't doubt that JIM was 4.5-4.0 before the resto. Maybe we give it a Conserved grade. But a blue label, God no.
  3. Man I just can't get enough of those DC grey-tone covers! Any one of them is an instant classic cover.
  4. Exactly. As someone who loves comics (as I hope most folks would be), I'd rather have more. There is something attractive about an old beat-up comic, its an active piece of history. It didn't just sit in a closet for 50 years. It was read and well loved. It has personality. I love all comics (save SA Marvel and some Modern ), keys and filler issues. I wouldn't want a collection of just filler books, nor one of just keys. I would consider myself a run collector even though I have less than 400 issues. I have only 2 complete runs, Hawkman (1964) and The Atom (1962), plus the 7 issue Atom & Hawkman run, as well as their respective Showcase/Brave & Bold (and Mystery in Space for Hawkman) runs. I am in the process of completing Shazam! (1973) and Aquaman (1962 - including AC 260, and Showcase issues) runs as well, with all major keys attained. All's left are 20 or so filler issues in each. With not a ton of funds, runs are easier to attain if I buy low-grade. Most issues of mine are VG-G, with expensive keys often being 2.5-0.3, most (like Aquaman 1) are 1.0s. I plan on attempting a SA JLA run as well, however my only progress on that is an 0.3 JLA 1, G copies of B&B 29-30, and approximately 10 JLA issues. It'll be a while. I find short (5-50 ish's) SA DC runs are the funnest to collect (and relatively cheap), and plan on putting together some including Plastic Man, Spectre, Creeper, and Metamorpho.
  5. Have you also considered Spectacular Spiderman 90, and Marvel Team-up 141?
  6. The qualified grade is the worst and dumbest product CGC has to offer. It isn't an actual grade. If a comic is missing a coupon, its not a 6.0, its just not. A qualified grade says, if your comic was in better shape it would be a 6.0, but your comic isn't in better shape, its an 0.5/1.0, and it will always be an 0.5/1.0, no matter what kind of label the book has.
  7. Agreed, either CGC is being to lenient with GA or to strict with SA - MA books, either way CGC just needs to keep it consistent.
  8. Is glue on a cover really even restoration? I realize it might hold a book intact or seal tears, but by that logic, wouldn't tape and xtra staples also be considered restoration? I just consider it a defect along with trimming, as neither actually "restore" in the literal sense of what "restore" means, that is to bring an object back to a state it once was.
  9. I know it's not a defect, but in this case CGC is treating it as a if it were just another defect w/ giving it a blue label.
  10. I realize that, but it's not like CGC hasn't failed to list defects in the label before.
  11. What bothers me is, how can I trust a company to find and identify restoration, if their finding of it doesn't qualify it as restored? Heck, if cgc isn't going to give it a restored grade, what guarantee is there that any of their "unrestored" books aren't restored.
  12. It bothers me too. If a book is restored, it's restored. Even if its very minor it's still restored and ought to be treated as a restored book. I think this comes down to just CGC being too lenient on their grading of GA books.
  13. So I stumbled across this on eBay the other day. How is it that the comic has minor color touch yet has a blue label, and isn't labeled as "restored." Seems very odd. The description of the item even lists it as "unrestored," although that is obviously not the case, but it might be "unrestored" according to CGC. I dunno. What's going on here? https://www.ebay.com/itm/More-Fun-Comics-73-CGC-2-0-GD-DC-1941-1st-App-ORIGIN-of-Aquaman/382526487289?hash=item59105afaf9:g:IycAAOSwrVRbVl2m
  14. Buy it, see what happens. I mean eBay does have a money back guarantee. But, I am genuinely interested in what would happen to this seller. Not sure if its one seller or multiple, but there have been quite a few fake Chinese listings, including these under HOS 92.
  15. The guy just shouldn't have made a definitive claim of it being "unrestored." I don't blame the guy for not catching the restoration, he just shouldn't have advertised what he didn't know.
  16. Here's the deal. If people complain about "snipping" in the first place, then a snipping software, is basically just cheating. You're not even the one bidding. I'm cool with it, I just prefer to bid with honor.
  17. That's true, many times I've seen, say 6:00 pm, only to realize at 6 EST there was a PDT next to it, and the auction was over.
  18. Picked up about a 3.0 FF 66 for a pretty good price of $12.70, just in case Endgame tries to do something w/ Adam Warlock.
  19. Yeah here are two copies of HOS 92 he "sold"
  20. The way you get an alright price is to snipe. The way you get a steal, is finding a listing either 1) listed in the wrong category 2) listed w/ wrong title or no title 3) listed with wrong picture 4) or just one that for some odd reason or another no one is watching. I've won tons of auctions where I won just off of placing the base bid, or $1 more than a previous base bid that the previous bidder didn't come back to bid on. Once you buy on eBay for a while you can just tell if an auction will get a lot of attention or if it won't.
  21. Holy cow dude, thats crazy. Are you at all worried that it might not be legit or a mis-listing?
  22. $0.99! What a deal! Until you see the $50 I paid for shipping, still tho for $51, I'll take a copy of Aquaman 35 any day. It seems to be about 3.0-4.0 w/ water damage, but since the listing didn't include "Aquaman 35" I was the only bidder.
  23. Yeah it actually wasn't that bad, I just wasn't prepared to spend that much on 35 just yet.
