  1. Proof that the "Livewire hype" is just insufficiently_thoughtful_person speculators buying what a few manipulators are telling them to buy? What step is that in the lead-up to the crash?
  2. Yep, that's a good call - see this one staying where it is until the show starts (or until someone slabs a 9.8 copy) For a preview book? Wow! DC Comics Presents 26 You know damn well that DCP 26 (and the others DC did at that time) is not a normal "preview" book.
  3. I'm so glad the DOFP movie has been confirmed. I can hardly wait until it hits the theaters. I'm very excited to see it! I know it's stupid to have six threads for a movie release, but one would have been just fine.
  4. is this just a result of everyone seeing it heat up and saying things like "I'm not grading that, $1 to $30 is enough margin for me" which has resulted into under 20 9.8 copies on the census resulting in a large market of speculators looking for this book in high grade? if the prices remain at this level there is certainly going to be a rise of subs to cgc 2nd full appearance of Warren Worthington III as Archangel... First cover Fixed. Death/Archangel first appears as a monochrome background character in 21 (with the rest of the Horsemen), followed by multiple panels in shadow in 22, then shows his new form and abilities in 23. He is named "Archangel" by the Beast at the end of issue 38.
  5. 99.999999999% - All of us except MrWeen and the guy who just listed SA #4 on eBay for $99. I mean... it's a bit ridiculous, right? I am all for collector weirdness. If I want to collect all things Thanos, SURE I want to pick up that issue of Marvel Age, why not? I see no problem with simply pointing out weird/oddball stuff like that. Just don't try to point to, a non story, "first time the image of a character sees print" and try to call it a "first appearance". Just pointing to the literal definition of the word "first", and the word "appearance", does not an argument make. This hobby, which is built on people reading stories, is mostly interested in characters that appear, in stories. This is what a "first appearance" means, in comic collecting. There is nothing wrong with collecting the first time the image of a character appears in print. Nothing at all. If it floats your boat, buy every Malibu Sun 13 that your heart desires. Just understand what you are talking about. The first time the image of a character appears in print. NOT the first appearance of the character. Though I would never use a Thanos appearance in Marvel Age as an example when discussing oddball collectibles I can assure you that I understand what I am talking about. Go take a look at the Overstreet definition or a litany of other definitions. I have yet to see one that lists the need to be part of the story as a first appearance requirement. In fact Overstreet defines a first appearance as: Same as debut. And they define debut as the first time a character appears anywhere. Yea you read that right...anywhere. By the way it looks like the market has already spoken about Malibu 13, it regularly sells for significantly more than Spawn 1. For those who type the word market in response to my plea for historical accuracy then what say you concerning a book like Malibu 13? The point is you can't have it both ways. Hey bud I collect weirdness too! Let me be clear. You have no idea what you are talking about. Why don't you go and try this in the Golden Age, Silver Age and Bronze Age thread and see how far you go. Trust me you won't go very far. What part don't you understand that your view on first appearances is utter nonsense, No one has taken you seriously in months. To be honest, you are just wasting your time even posting on the boards. Take some time off, re-evaluate your stance on first appearances and come back when your views change or you are willing to listen. People are entitled to their opinion. Whether you agree with them or not is entirely up to you. Everyone on here can voice how they feel or what they believe.... To insult people or try and people into an arguement is immature, unproductive and doesn't do anything except start flame wars. I am not hear to start an argument or flame war. It is not a insult to MrWeen. MrWeen has been the butt of jokes for months now. Nothing new. MrWeen occassionally has some good insight but if MrWeen wants to be taken seriously that stance on first appearances has to change. MrWeen's views are just confusing the new collectors to the hobby. these jokes you speak of must be told in the super secret forums because i havent read them. most people toss insults or spew anger when the don't have a counter argument. look, my view may be in the minority but it doesn't mean it's wrong. my desire if for universally accepted definition which i understand will never happen. not all comics preview a character at the end of a comic so if im collecting livewire i would want to own that comic, especially in the case as the art differs from the cover to issue 5. sounds like im helping collectors here not confusing them. dont let the amount of posts i have trick you, ive been collecting comics for close to 30 years. im not always right but i dont have an agenda either. i dont own any copies of sup adv 4 or 5 I would really hate to be a hardcore OCD Spider-Man collector in your world. They would probably need about 90% of Marvel comics ever made plus who knows what else.
  6. Seriously, didn't even pull this title out of the longboxes, never mind #13. At first I was skeptical but Justice League 13 could be this weekend's hot comic. I forgot all about New Guardians 2. It seems do do well and I can't remember that cocaine villain appearing anywhere else. I was at C2E2 and there was one on a guys wall for $40. IT WAS ON HIS WALL. I even asked him what was up with it, and he said "I looked it up and its selling for that, I'm surprised too". But All Star is in the new 52 or something? As of now, All-Star has made one appearance in comics - a decade ago in a non-canonical series based on a cartoon. Somebody please tell me she was at least on TV for a few episodes.
  7. He's on two full pages showing what he can do after his transformation and he's still Warren Worthington III. X-Factor 23 is the first appearance of Warren as Death/Archangel, period. X-Factor 24 is just the revelation to X-Factor that he is Warren. But he's on seven pages and it has the cover...
  8. Because most of us saw what happened last time the speculators moved in and things got completely out of hand. I'm happy to sell my extra stuff as always, but what happens later?
  9. That's the greatest concern during these speculation runs. Especially when you see an overabundance of each book available, and yet the prices keep climbing. But I wouldn't blame the sellers on this. It is the buyers that keep coming back for more, and driving the prices up. Well the speculators on eBay just cleared me out of my last three copies of X-Factor # 6 in CGC 9.8 this weekend, at $325, $325, and $350 respectively. I need to go speculate some more. X-Factor 6 may be overinflated right now due to the movie coming out in 2 years but Apocalypse is a very popular villain who has been around for 30 years. It is not comparable to books like Superman Adventures 5. But at least you seem to know that the smart move is to sell during a bubble.
  10. Been buying these for years. So welcome to the club. If 54, why not 55? You guys don't like Slade's ?
  11. I still want to know why. Harley Quinn built up a fanbase over many years, had her own relatively short-lived title, benefits from her association with one of the most popular villains in comics, etc. and only recently really took off. Livewire has made a handful of appearances in the DCU... and? Are we really back in the early 90s?
  12. 1. For comics, "appearance" means in a story whether you like it or not. Dictionaries are irrelevant. 2. Like Harley Quinn, Livewire was created for animated television, not comics. I'm sure Superman Adventures readers were assumed to be familiar with the characters from the show.
  13. So, there's no significant difference between #17 and #18. Yeah, because 40% increases aren't significant. No, not at such a low number. Now the 400% increase from #17 to #19 IS significant. Remember, the order numbers given are only around 25% of the total. The 40% increase is significant. The 400% increase is crazy!
  14. I thought that, too but this picture gives a little bit better of a look. I don't know if it's rust or just poor lighting. Guess I'll find out in a couple of days. Again not trying to burst the bubble...but are they even the same books??? Bottom book has a bad wrap, at the bottom of the book. Top one appears to be centred better. Jim I think that's just an illusion of the angle and reflection. Same with the staple.
  15. So, there's no significant difference between #17 and #18. Yeah, because 40% increases aren't significant.
  16. Worthless! Of course. All early Moore Swamp Thing issues are worthless. Especially 22-24, 27 and 29.
  17. Blame lawyers, not Ennis. Same reason Morrison made it clear in the letters pages of Invisibles that Crazy Jane and Ragged Robin are completely different characters despite any obvious similarities.
  18. Who "confirmed" it? When? It has been a little while since I read Moore's Swamp Thing, but I don't recall that. As someone who thoroughly enjoys it when things like BA 12 happen to comics and conventional wisdom is changed by force I just cannot bring myself to believe that the character in that shirt is John Constantine. Not to mention the expression on his face. When have you ever seen John Constantine look like that? But I have no idea what your BA 12 reference means.
  19. Who "confirmed" it? When? It has been a little while since I read Moore's Swamp Thing, but I don't recall that.
  20. They may be reading, but they aren't comprehending. John Constantine DOES NOT appear in Saga of the Swamp Thing 25. He had not even been created when that issue came out. It actually is him. Just one simple, silly panel. Still, a fun book to collect when you happen across them. No, it's definitely Sting. There's a long history of comic artists inserting celebrities/comic professionals/characters from other companies in the background of panels. This is just one example.

  22. I though this proved to be a different character? DC wikia lists it as him, so I guess for now it is: http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/John_Constantine_%28New_Earth%29 DC wikia also says this: The character of John Constantine was created by Alan Moore, on something of a whim originally. Alan Moore is quoted to have said "Hey, let's make a character that looks like Sting." and, well, the rest is history. That's actually not correct. The other two members of the creative team wanted to fit a character into the book matching Sting's appearance. So to appease them, Moore created Constantine. Exactly.

  24. I though this proved to be a different character? DC wikia lists it as him, so I guess for now it is: http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/John_Constantine_%28New_Earth%29 All that really matters is what the market thinks, but Bissette has stated on several occasions that the guy in 25 was Sting. He and Totleben had been bugging Moore to have a Sting-like character for a while. It took them a while to get him to relent and we got JC in 37. The funny thing is, it is just so much simpler to look at 25 as some kind of cameo.
  25. Yeah, they want them because they are suckers! But the main point is that they are continuously manufactured.
