  1. Probably because they keep making them, so they actually have 10 bazillion to sell. That, and because people are suckers. You definitely know some interesting dealers. I have never met a dealer who thinks ONE inquiry = "High demand! Big money! Raise the price!" Actually... maybe one ...
  2. I believe so (anybody feel free to correct me here), but not consistently, at least on the Canadians. I wonder how many of those 1885 were unmarked Canadians. I know I had seen a few by that point in time.
  3. Was I that guy? Because I do feel that Shooter is a better writer of mainstream superhero comic books. One ridiculous argument per thread, please.
  4. I was just going to post that vid. You make a great point. So Rob was even younger than 24 when he worked at Marvel creating Deadpool and Cable. People are quick to criticize Rob but forget to realize they are hammering him at a time period in his life when he was just a kid. A fair amount kids under 24 now a days are either living with mom/dad, still in the undergraduate 7 year plan, unemployed or probably already obese (yes America has a fat problem). At least Rob had the balls to take his art skills to the next level and make a name for himself early on. Then being part owner with 5 other guys starting a new comic book company that is still around today. So I think he did just find in life and his art career. Absolutely. Liefeld achieved a lot of accomplishments for his age. I also didn't know that Rob was self taught. I'm sure people will use that against him, but I find that very admirable. When It comes to Liefeld, I can take the good with the bad. Fortunately, I can find more good than bad. So you're saying he's also a terrible teacher?
  5. I am surprised as well. From what I've seen, if you don't note things like that on the submission form, CGC doesn't usually notice, either.
  6. This is...a surprisingly solid post from you. Good stuff man. But I still challenge the last point, and this blanket "accept it for what it is", with the tone that it's universally bad and there's no disputing that. To this day I continue to look at his prime work and learn from it. Sure, there are plenty of things you learn to avoid, but there's plenty to still learn from. The way Liefeld inked himself on X-Force #1 still influences the way I ink. The way he tried to make every panel interesting and "awesome" is a valid positive because it engaged the audience and pulled them in. Even if it's the passion of a 12 year old mind, you don't hear that same passion for a large number of other books and artists we read at that time. Even if it's only appealing to a 12 year old, there's something there that makes it so. I don't look at Liefeld for his storytelling ability or his backgrounds or his anatomy, but there are some things he did right, at least for a little while. Since it is possible to have an exciting style without being fundamentally clueless and unsound, your "point" is moot.
  7. Don't be ridiculous. The effort RabidFerret has put into this thread is far greater than Rob Liefeld has ever expended on anything.
  8. Wow...just...wow. I've never seen a group of people come together to support my argument so well before!! Thank you all! I feel so loved!! The mob that is you(you know who you are, take a bow!) continues to show that no matter what's presented you see what you want to see. Again and again examples are posted and you refuse to be objective. You refuse to step back but immediately attack it with a fine toothed comb to find the flaws that support your arguments. Every piece of comic art is full of the same mistakes if you take the time to look. Your example of great storytelling is well appreciated. Let me be you. 1) You include a page where 5 panels have no backgrounds. The remaining 2 make me assume they're in the basement of the Eiffel Tower? Is that right? 2) I love how the light source changes in those final two panels. There's no indication that the dynamo and his friend move but their shadows do? Is this Peter Pan? 3) I'm always of fan of when the character design changes from panel to panel. Where does the dynamo get that pretty pink ruffled bonnet he has on his head in panel 4 that he didn't have before? 4) In panel 1 they walk past a very clear wooden door and some plants...why do they vanish in the next panel? 5) In panel 2 Iron Man appears to be standing on the middle of a ice skating rink? And whatever light source appears in panels 6-7 clearly avoids him entirely, leaving him shadow free? 6) In panel 4 the dynamo presses a button in the most comically unrealistic way possible. Surprised he's not twisting a diabolical mustache while he's at it. 7) And then a tank appears? Inside this skating rink? 8) And in panel 5 it looks like Iron Man is being broken into pieces...but based on the debris in panel 6 am I supposed to take it as complete disintegration? Wow, I'm learning so much here... So you ignore where he says Heck "is more than often despised" and focus on the fact that he doesn't like modern comics/artists. Don Heck is not a popular artist by any stretch of the imagination, but despite the *cough* great art on that page, it is easy to tell what is happening (you know, storytelling). I'm really not sure you understand anything at all.
  9. Yeah, I recognize it's a tough position to take. He's been vilified for a long time. But I just feel like someone needs to defend the guy. Or at least his peak work. He's made plenty of mistakes, and some of his art really is quite bad, but if you can't even acknowledge the quality of his best work, there's just something wrong. At least give him the credit he's due. How could somebody who embodies everything bad about the 90s be vilified? Just because he had no formal art training, little storytelling ability, was all about style over substance, couldn't meet deadlines, couldn't run a business properly... The best thing Liefeld ever did was turning over control of Supreme to Alan Moore. Unfortunately, that was followed by the dumb mess letting his company die before Moore was finished. I don't hate Liefeld because of his art, but I'm not a fan and couldn't name my favourite artwork offhand.
  10. Does buying books from your brother really count? Jim Wow talk about not reading what I wrote... You said you bought a book from your brother, what did I misinterpret? Your other book didn't show up with a scan? Jim For = From?
  11. He's generalizing. The numbers ARE down, but there are still readers. In fact, there's probably been a slight upswing in readers with all the movie and TV exposure. There's a core of female readers that I don't think existed ten years ago. This being the CGC forum, though, there's probably some skew towards graded book collectors. He's not talking about modern sales or comic readers in general. He's talking about people who don't seem to have a clue about the interior content of comics they're buying, especially in slabs.
  12. AH HA Price variant (thumbs u I sure hope you're going to foot the bill for ShieldAgent's hospital visit as he recovers from his aneurysm.
  13. The highest graded Archie's Pals 'N' Gals #3 CGC 7.5 and #6 CGC 9.0 seen on the CGC census today are both (35 cent Canadian price variants) with no mention of Canadian edition seen on the labels and I have seen both books. This is an important point. Everyone should know that the CGC census is an imperfect source of imformation, but for Canadian Newsstands it's even worse. There are way too many slabbed CNs with no notation on the label/in the system.
  14. There has never been any indication that a book was produced for the newsstand. Newsstand books simply have bar codes.
  15. The dialogue on the cover would be hilarious if you couldn't see the guys hands in the window. 3 observations: 1. You can't see their waists 2. Archie and Dilton are bent over 3. Moose and Reggie are right behind Archie and Dilton Is this the logical progression from Betty and Me 16?
  16. Combined with attrition, determines rarity Describes rarity in the marketplace at any given time Does not change rarity. EVER.
  17. So the first is krypto's "before (pressing and slabbing)" scan and the second is the one from Frank's sale thread? Frank should be in charge of the scanner threads when he gets back, because people are always asking how to get nice slab scans and his seems pretty clear. Personally, I wouldn't even be able to tell it was in a slab if Frank hadn't said so. the first scan is mine from before it was pressed and slabbed. the second is his scan, after it was cracked out and scanned, and offered for sale "raw". You're ruining my fun. But thanks for the confirmation.

  19. Sorry to interrupt, but can somebody please post the Avengers 57 scans Frank used in his sale thread? I know there are multiple images of the book in this thread, but I want to be clear on which are which. Thanks.
  20. Hey, he may be a , a , a , a and a lying sack of , but he is not a shill. He simply changed his username, which is allowed on this messageboard and recorded here. (If he had a pre-MUSCLESHARK account, I stand corrected)
  21. While I was out today, I saw over a dozen copies of WD 61... I only stopped at two stores.
