  1. Recently followed up, circled back, with someone about a piece of art I was interested in buying from then. I'd asked a few times on various forums, I'd expected to get the typical Im-not-interested-in-selling response... instead was shocked to find out he'd sold it!!! He hadn't thought to reach out to me, because he first looked at email inquiries (I'd reached out on CAF and Twitter). So maybe another column to add to a spreadsheet is "Inquiries": Contact details on anyone who has expressed an interest in buying the art.
  2. This one flew under the radar...Sean Murphy White Knight issue one - page 21. Napier, now cured, researching his legal options against Batman and the GCPD in Arkham library. Was then used as wraparound cover on the hardcover...HOWEVER...you need to remove the dust jacket cover to see it. I personally prefer this image over the final dust jacket image.
  3. Assuming you mean framed without spacing the glass from the art?
  4. For your consideration... Published: Splash Pages, Pinups Batman Annual #4 page 13 https://www.comicartfans.com/bestofpiece.asp?piece=1596756 Published/Unpublished: Covers Space Bandits Cover - Issue 2 https://www.comicartfans.com/bestofpiece.asp?piece=1573371 Published: Interior Panel Pages Conan the Barbarian (2019) #8 pg 2 https://www.comicartfans.com/bestofpiece.asp?piece=1568107 Conan the Barbarian (2019) #8 pg 4 https://www.comicartfans.com/bestofpiece.asp?piece=1568110 The Magic Order #6 page 6 https://www.comicartfans.com/bestofpiece.asp?piece=1581997
  5. Not familiar with the artist.. looks glorious! Are there any more details on the restoration process?
  6. Before getting into this hobby, I always assumed all inks were over original pencils. Then I saw mentions of ink over "blue line" - folks like Capullo selling original pencil and original ink pages. Add some aspect of digital or lightbox into the process... it's no wonder I gravitate towards artists that ink over their own pencils/layout. Eliminates this whole dilemma... bifurcation of values. Enjoying this thread.
  7. Excuse the ignorance. We simply upload images to Lowry gallery, by 12/31, and then, on 1/1 can allocate to proper category for voting to commence on 1/4?
  8. Wealth transfer discussion morphed into wealth tax. Meanwhile, wealth transfer tax = estate and inheritance tax. Think 2020 limit is around $11.6 million, married couples can protect twice that amount. How many of you DKR OA owners have charitable remainder trusts to shelter your art from estate tax and transfer ownership to your offspring? 😜 Think the main takeaway of article is more to do with changing taste in art and valuations waxing and waning... buy what you like... let the chips fall where they may.
  9. I tried to log back onto my Alex MUD account once, after a 10 year hiatus. My account had been purged due to inactivity. Sometimes people take a long pause. Sometimes folks pass away. I like the idea that the collection they curated, and all they accomplished in this hobby will endure the ages.
  10. My main goal is to be even more discerning with new acquisitions - keep modern/ new art purchases to a minimum and focus on nostalgia: Dave Mazzucchelli Born Again page Sandman page(s) - already up on my CAF Want List
  11. Photo of me, that Sean Murphy used as reference in final issue of Tokyo Ghost.
  12. I post everything, with the understanding that none of it falls within the "big win" category.
  13. Not sure if he's considered new enough or lesser-known enough, however, really enjoying Jorge Fornes and will go out of my way to pick up his one-off fill in issues here and there
  14. Wondering, do the 30 year olds see this sort of conversation and opt to not get into the hobby? Where are the kids born in the 80s reading comics in the 90s?
  15. Enjoying where this thread is going... the above comment speaks to me. My collecting mentality comes more from wine collecting ( what I liquidated to fund OA) than comic book collecting. Speaking with a few of you, over the years, about collecting and I always refer back to something @Sideshow Bob told me: " You get specialized early, then branch out, then get overextended, then retract to a core, then realize what it is that really gives you the feels, then pare down again, and finally end up with a very solid focused collection that looks almost curated." When I started collecting wines, I went through a similar cycle. After hundreds, maybe thousands, of bottles, my collection fell squarely into two regions and a handful of varietals. Im trying to avoid that whole middle part with OA and stick with "looks almost curated". I'd rather buy one or two pieces, of what I consider quality, and have a lovely collection over the longterm. Also, last time I was in Paris, I spent four days at the Louvre... my wife was there on business, she'd call me between meetings and my answer was always the same "yes, I'm still at the Louvre" 😉 Thanks for everyone's posts, comments, thoughts on collecting. Looking to be in this hobby for the long haul!
  16. Great post, thanks for taking the time to share.
  17. Not been at this very long, however, I'd say most of this hobby is aspirational. So, in that sense, there are goals and "checklists" that people set out to complete... make more money, be healthy, stop smoking, buy/ sell art... to that end, ya gotta set a time period to assess your progress, year over year. And it's kinda fun. Otherwise, yes, you're 100% current. 😜
  18. What's the one piece of art or one artist you'd like an example from before end of month/ year/ decade? For me....the obvious Mazzucchelli BA
  19. I'd be inclined to take advantage of the sales if, like you, there was something I was already interested in buying.
  20. I made it into Tokyo Ghost, SGM did a great job. I will insist - having a speaking part - that Keanu Reeves have a cameo, as me, in the inevitable Netflix series When I die though, I'll want Billy Sink to do my portrait.
  21. The art hangs in the home office... my wife wouldn't want it hanging anywhere else in the house, and, frankly, I agree. So in that respect we are in the same wavelength. She asked me once about how much I'd spent on some preliminary art, the answer didn't make her happy. She felt it was good money waisted on art she didn't like. Subsequently, a year later, sold the prelim art - for more. That seemed to temper her reaction over new art that made its way into the house. The hobby isn't necessarily a sunk cost.
