  1. The summer of 1986, Daredevil issue 232...I was 13 years old. My ritual, that entire summer, was to ride my bike to town to pick up comics at the local five and dime. I'd return home with my loot, drenched in sweat, and park myself in my parents bedroom. The air conditioning window unit set to "max". I was partial to Marvel, over DC. Marvel comics felt more "adult" (I was 13 years old, after all, and not a kid anymore!). Nothing I'd read in comics felt more real than what Kingpin was putting Matt through and nothing shocked me more than the murder of nurse Lois. The scene in the prison cell is, to this day, some of the best sequential storytelling. I read issue 232 and subsequent issue 233, every day, all summer long... the issue really stayed with me. PS still looking to buy Daredevil Born Again original art 🤑
  2. Thanks! I pre-ordered the paperback, loved it so much I bit the bullet and picked up the IDW Artist Addition on ebay for $220. Now all I need is the OA and I've got the trifecta!
  3. Everything in my collection is from current artists on recent titles, would like to start filling the nostalgia holes David Mazzucchelli - Daredevil Born Again would go a long way in checking off many boxes on my list
  4. "Lots of detail does not necessarily = great art" I tried to ask master kim jung gi about this...his details are insane, however, an Alex Toth (to me) is more satisfying....my question was lost in translation and I came off like an All that being said, if I hit the lottery tomorrow...I'd bid this up to $800k - heck hypothetical money be darned - make it $900k!
  5. Im a firm believer in quality over quantity. I'd rather have an A+ example over 5 B+ examples. So one might think I'd go with a more desirable cover (especially when thinking resale value). However, sequential storytelling is hard. All things being equal, I'd probably take 5 pages of well paced, well structured storytelling, and if there is a sweet splash page in there... win/ win!
  6. Neal literally saved Batman from cancellation. His art is fantastic, his stories iconic. He took Batman out of the daylight and put him back into the shadows... I went to every one of the Batman 75th anniversary panels at SDCC (five years ago?) and loved all the behind the scenes stories Adams & O'Neil shared...I guess, in my late 40s, I'm just old enough to appreciate?
  7. Finally, Sean Murphy, Batman White Knight, issue #4 pages 15 & 16
  8. My collection is pretty small, but what I've curated thus far is mostly multiple pages that capture a moment, share your examples Gerardo Zaffino, Conan the Barbarian (2019): issue #8 pages 2-4
  9. The premium version was 40% off after the security issues they had so I recently upgraded. Prior to that I would screen capture the image within the app to avoid the watermark
  10. Clearly, you need to put all that art in an irrevocable trust
  11. Im not well versed on the penciler/ inker dynamics for the "old stuff" even the material I read as kid in the 80s... I'll know the penciler but have to look up the inker. I wish there was a cheat sheet that details the top penciler/ inkers combos on various books over the decades.
  12. There is some art you take to the grave, am I right? I'll take the $100k... go on an quasi-epic shopping spree (it's only 100k after all) ... then book an appearance on the Felix podcast... talk about the entire experience, option the story to Hollywood, with stipulation Keanu Reeves plays the part of me. Use that Hollywood money to buy more art, now we got a sequel and a franchise on our hands
  13. Haven't been too happy with the quality of recent scans...probably more to do with the lighting in the house/room than anything else.....just realized I can bring my art into the office and use the office Canon 4251 to scan some art that isn't behind glass...not sure why it took me this long to think of that! Glad I hadn't shelled out cash for a home scanner
  14. Looking back on the year, so far... https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerydetailsearch.asp?yr=2019&gcat=120792 Im very happy with the additions and feel I've maintained the quality by adding great examples. Im still trying to find my way and understand myself as a collector. Commonalities in 2019: all the artists ink over their own lines and I'm drawn to strong women.
  15. Tokyo Ghost- great moment from a great story and my favorite issue
  16. Picked up the pro version of this app and disappointed that a 3.7MB image that gets brought into the app and converted to jpg can only get exported at around 500KB - anyone have a solution?
