  1. someone should put Brent's "friend" and that book out of its misery. Started out at like 35K, then 15K, then 8K, then 6K, then 4K, now its at a price that 9.4s sell at. Its the single highest graded copy of probably the most important DC bronze horror book (ok yeah the angular miswrap is disgusting). It seems there are also 2 Oakland copies of this book, I know id rather prefer the other one...
  2. Jerry Weist's auctions get really crazy prices most of the time, I still remember a couple years back when he had a bunch of Adams Bats books up and the prices were all 2-3x GPA for the good stuff. Here's hoping a board member gets the PS 10 though, toughie in high grade and crazy good cover !
  3. Sterling you're still looking for a WH 4 9.4 ? Sadly I sold my copy way too cheap a year or so ago. If I knew you were still looking for one Id have wrote you first. Very, very nice looking Phantom Stranger 10 CGC 9.6 up right now in one of Jerry Weist's auctions, if I didnt already have a nice copy Id probably blow the bank out for it as it is one of Adams' best horror covers.
  4. I still and will always like DC horror books, especially those drawn by that old curmudgeon Adams.
  5. Anyone have a scan of the 8.5 trimmed copy ? If not remember what it looked like ?
  6. On a side note 5+ years with only the lone 9.4 HOM 190 on the census, this past month 2 9.6s have shown up.
  7. I agree, that Showcase 4 will eventually sell. they always do Except for the 9.2 copy. ....
  8. Mound City 8.0 pressed and resubmitted into an 8.5.
  9. Copies are coming out of the woodwork, another 8.5 aint nothing to sneeze at.
  10. Nice copy Bomber-Bob. My mistake in confusing the 2 copies and their owners.
  11. I wouldn't worry about that, Ryan. If there's one thing that the last few years have shown, it's that the reputation of GA collectors being "real" collectors, and SA collectors just being flippers, is a myth. Sure you've got your old school collectors Anderson, Verzyl and Berk who picked up their primo GA books for relative pennies and have locked them away, but it seems that in recent years, once a really nice GA book comes to the market, it keeps reappearing. In contrast, the NM SA mega-keys (both Marvel and DC) that appeared in the 2001-2003 time frame have disappeared from the market. With the exception of some TOS 39s when the Iron Man movie broke big and the odd 9.2 Hulk 1 or 9.6 ASM 1 here and there, there was a real drought until 2008-2009, indicating that the prime books had truly been absorbed into real collections. When some books started appearing on the market again in 2008 and 2009, we saw record-breaking prices because SA collectors knew the opportunity to acquire the books truly was limited. Good point, Tim. I am torn since I do not want to put any more savings into funny books right now until I see which way the economy and markets are going to go. If they take another hit as I suspect, then it will be better to have cash on hand for investing and collecting purposes. If I sell, the only book I will probably keep is the GL #7 since it is so hard to find in even 8.0 or better condition. I guess my GL #9 is probably a keeper as well since 9.0 is 2nd highest graded after 9.2, but it is not as important to me as #7. you could always buy lanier's #7 9.2 on clink for $8k thats not his book is it ? I thought he had the Winnipeg 9.2. That looks like Ryan's old 9.2 with C/OW that he bought from Ted. Nothing like looking at Clink these days and seeing every GL book priced up at 5x the market rate. I mean Im waiting to still press the buy it now on the GL 83 9.6 Pacific Coast for 5K. Oh wait thats like 10x what it should be selling for.
  12. Doc Joe ! Say It aint So ! Hope you break the bank bud.
  13. That was my Showcase 34 that I sold on Heritage in 2007. Interesting that it`s now been identified as a Slobodian, as it was never identified that way to me, including by Mark Wilson, who sold it to me. If the buyer of the collection is passing on the Slobodian because he has the Western Penn copy already, he`s making a mistake because the Slobodian is superior. And that`s coming from a huge WP fan. 100% agree, your old copy looks very, very nice Tim. The WP had more wear and also looked like it had some slab damage on the LRFC. Wonder how they got Slobodian out of it if the 2 prior owners didnt even know it was from that collection.
  14. Im thinking there are 2 Atom collectors, the guy who sold that run and the person who paid big money to get em. Likely bought the Western Penn Showcase 34 in the Clink auction so doesnt need the Slobodian that is up. Oh and Paperheart.
  15. passes showcase #4 as most valuable DC silver in grade (i think) FF 1 is to AF 15 what Showcase 4 is to Showcase 22.
  16. This book in 9.0 is just not worth 60K. Whoever paid that much for it better really love Green Lantern, and I mean love as in PJs and underoos cause in 3 years I just cant see this price holding up (especially with the likelihood of a higher graded copy emerging).
  17. lots of them? please show me "lots" of moderns selling for $1000. might be the rare CGC 9.9-10 (1 Walking Dead #1 9.9), but that's about it. Why are you even bringing in what society would pay for the book, you just answered your own question. Nobody outside of the comic world would unless we're gonna keep going with the rich celebrity sweeping in cause he fell in love with the Rob Liefeld Levi's commercials. Only a comic person would pay this price. We re all comic people here and the majority think its a stupid price for a book that is likely arbitrarily a 9.9 yet sold for 50x the price of a 9.8 with a high likelihood of it being matched or surpassed. Thats your definition of a ridiculous price.
  18. So you're not the only one ? I have around 40 copies of 86, and 25 apiece of 87 and 98. They cant seriously be worth money can they ? I on half of them and doodlled on the rest.
