  1. I could have kinda understood the price for a real nice 9.0 because I do think Action 252 is slightly undervalued, but to pay that much for an 8.0 in a 9.0 holder didn't make any sense to me.
  2. wow sounds like I'm going to be wrong. Why did you think the price was going to be down from the last sale? Combination of another 9.0 being graded (and it looking like a weak 9.0), a glut of copies predictably entering the market before the movie hits, and yeah like Aman said the small downward movie hype trend I've noticed right before it's about to come out. Guess a lot of that is also based on if the movie is actually good or not. Either way I'd be happy to be wrong, which seems like the case with it right near 50K with a day left.
  3. wow sounds like I'm going to be wrong.
  4. sounds pretty dang expensive to me, unless it's going to be turned into a 9.6 which doesn't seem likely looking at the scan of the book.
  5. doesn't end till tomorrow night. starts with an S.
  6. It used to be a 9.2, and CGC should never have upgraded it to a 9.4, even after the book got cleaned. Actually.. guess I was wrong, the 9.4 Flash 105 is a newly graded copy (along with the 9.0 Adventure 247). I guess it does make sense, CGC may have had their loose periods before but never as loose or soft as they are right now.
  7. It used to be a 9.2, and CGC should never have upgraded it to a 9.4, even after the book got cleaned. boy, those Heritage scans are brutal. doesn't even look like a 9.2 to me I think I can say pretty confidently your copy is nicer then that one paperheart.
  8. In the August Heritage auction the 9.0 Bethlehem copy of Showcase 4 is going to be up... Structurally it's a bit soft but the book looks to make up for it with nice eye appeal. Probably gonna go pretty high. Maybe a big DC collector is cashing out, the lone 9.4 Flash 105 is also up (way too much wear for a 9.4) along with a not so pretty 9.0 Adventure 247 (dust shadow and bad miswrap).
  9. Around $2200...and about a 50% return in six months. (thumbs u i can't find that one on your list- there's a 6.0 for $2495 that you said was below FMV, is that the book? be careful paperheart... 9.4 Showcase 34 sold for 24K tonight in the pedigree auction. Atom today, Aquaman tomorrow, next week Hawkman, Metal Men and the world.
  10. Very true statement. In fact, this really does sum it up. Makes the whole transaction from start to finish that much better and sweeter. Only downside - I just lost a TON of points and my #1 Showcase ranking on the CGC registry! Wow, I just deleted the book and dropped 10 ranking spots in the overall registry!!!! Hopefully the book finds a nice long term home now Mark. It was a great copy of a great book. Congrats again on the sale.
  11. So true on the centering. Did you upgrade? No. Gave up trying to find a nicely centered 9.6. Nicely centered meaning no white on the spine at all? I've had 2 copies in 9.6 and seen a few others and this one is the closest I could come to "nicely centered". That one looks pretty nice to me, wouldn't kick it out of bed. Couple of others I saw had too much white for my liking but that one would fit the bill.
  12. So true on the centering. Did you upgrade? No. Gave up trying to find a nicely centered 9.6.
  13. +1 The CGC 9.2 is most certainly a six figure book at this time. (thumbs u Based on what? The asking price Based on that it is worth at least that amount. The CGC 9.6 sold for $180k or so, and the CGC 9.4 sold for $160k or so. The CGC 9.2, which is the next in line and none are close to it, is worth at least low six figures. I would bank on it. Congrats Mark.
  14. That's my old copy, is very nice. Perfectly centered which ain't easy to find on that book.
  15. Did OU back out of their originally scheduled game and get one against UCF or Miami instead? Can't really think of any other teams to the Gators east (unless they are going the SEC scheduling route and playing the Jacksonville Dolphins or something). GAtor lives in Gainesville ? Guess that's news to me. His team may but I don't think he does.
  16. New on the census to me. I wonder if this is the copy Rick sold over a year ago. That is a very soft 9.0 compared to the others. Look at that crease in the top left corner/edge. The spine dings are fine, but how does a book get a 9.0 with all of that top edge damage? That wear on the top left corner/edge as you mention is a bit much. Hard to say if one can only examine it like the Heritage scans. Wow, still no SC22 in 9.2 yet... I know people say it all the time but it really does seem that CGC has gotten softer at the upper tiers. 2 examples that just stuck out to me recently are the 9.4 X-Men 1 that Clink has up right now for auction. Also if you think this 9.0 Showcase 22 looks bad (and it does look bad with that wear at the ULFC) check out the Twin Cities Action 252 9.0. For my book not better then an 8.0. http://comics.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=7033&Lot_No=91002
  17. according to the "experts", it is indeed OK...but, I if I was a betting man, I wouldn't be spending any money in vegas on them to finish #1 (thumbs u Party pooper, but yeah I wouldn't either if I was betting $$. Don't worry we'll have a grand ole time blasting your neighbors to the east on 9/17.
  18. Dear GAtor, Who is the consensus preseason #1 team for the 2011 college football season ? Signed, Landry Jones, Ryan Broyles, and Travis Lewis.
  19. That pretty much covers it in my book They are the only 3 mega-keys coming to mind at the moment for DC silver age. (unless you want to count the first issues of the JLA, GL the Flash(105) as well...) SC 4 B&B 28 Adventure 247 SC 22 Flash 105 Showcase 17 B&B 34 Showcase 34 Showcase 9 Showcase 30 JLA 1 GL 1 OAW 81, 83 GI Combat 87 If you are talking big keys, then there are only 3 top tier SA DCs - B&B #28, SC #4 and SC #22. Otherwise, the list above is probably a good one to chase now before some of the 2nd and 3rd tier keys take off........... Well if you asked that same question 3+ years ago you would have likely only answered 1, Showcase 4. Then Showcase 22 and now BB 28 took off and have become "mega keys" for those who follow the pricing of the books, so no I don't believe that fixable list that's being mentioned as the big 3 is the be all end all like some have made it seem in this thread. In terms of value...then SC4, SC22, and BB28 is the top three SA DC. In comparison to their counterparts...AF15, FF1, Hulk 1. Think SC 22 is probably better compared to AF15 at this point but I get the comparisons. btw I enjoy looking at your sig line, very nice books and cool to see.

  22. It's only a matter of time until the next DC book picks up a bit of steam after BB 28. Whether it involves movie hype or whatever many of the early DC Silver Keys are still underpriced compared to their counterparts. Once the flippers/speculators get involved all the fun begins for those who seem to revel in hyping up books.
