This is not sounding good coming from the reasonable reviewers :frown:

    Overall: 6.0/10

There is no such thing as "reasonable reviewers".

In the past, there was pussyfooting around...but not anymore.  It's total war...total lies & propaganda.

And conservatives are human...all the anti-waken sites will sell their values up the river for money/clicks/rage-bait-views.

Conservative sites are LYING so blatantly.  Dropping their whole format to act disheartened...like they're going to die...about how non-stop-waken Aquaman 2 is...LYING about how it's all global-warming propaganda.

And everyone in the comments believes like sheep.  Even though all the environmental damage was purposely caused by Black Manta with ancient Atlantean fuel...not by humans.

A bigger problem is that movie audiences have grown weary of superhero movies in general. People are just sick of the genre. Movie-goers are ready for something new, but the studios haven't figured out what that is yet, so they're milking the superhero genre for every last penny that they can squeeze out of it.

My prediction on the next big thing: manga turned into live action films where CGI is used to make all of the actors' faces look like manga/anime characters. Wait for it.

I very much appreciate predictions.  Throw big ideas out there...give ourselves a CHANCE to hit the jackpot.

My prediction, as I've said...is that eventually current/valid (at time of death) drivers licenses & passports of famous people will act as their PSA 10 rookie cards.  Think about it.  Guys will run out of sports stars to collect...and will want other famous people.

But Jimbo...how can we capitalize on your prediction?  I'm not familiar with it.  Is it like the upcoming KISS avatar?  Should we be trademarking every celebrity name slash avatar or something??

If $25M opening 6 days, only needs 12x to match first one. Unfortunately, 2x multiple in China more likely.

This is a unique situation.  Never before has a big movie been bashed non-stop by the media for a year...so badly that it can't even be advertised.

So I don't expect pre-sales.  But audiences like Aquaman vs Black Manta...so I think it will have extremely good legs...as in long steady viewership.

    production budget $205M, P&A $2.05M

Seriously.  I've never seen anything like it.  The advertising has been nothing...the media is blocking it.

And it's not like Sound Of Freedom.  Because all the 'conservative' sites are blasting A2 non-stop.

'Conservative' and 'Christian' sites...they LIE.  They say what we want to hear 95% of the time...to lure us in...and then they BLAST their main target.

Like 'Fight For Truth' - seeming so Biblical & Christian - smeared Robert Morris......to spread confusion.

    Encouraging sign :roflmao:

The review embargo, including even social media reactions, won't be lifted on Aquaman 2 until FIVE HOURS before the first showtimes.

Obviously the media will continue to lie & smear Aquaman 2.

They DESPISE the fact that non-waken A1 is the #1 DC movie.  And that A2 is even less waken (jacked Momoa, Mateen III, Wilson...& Wan)...while all the other superhero movies have been waken and FLOPPED.

I never heard of. the Eye  before🤣

Speaking of never heard (no pun intended)....

I've NEVER heard of every media site's headline, in the days before a movie's release....(mis)quoting the star as saying "It's not looking good."

But search 'aquaman news'.  No surprise though....they've been absolutely trashing it for a year straight.

While the pressing boat has sailed ...getting relatively no press coverage these days... I'm much more sanguine about restoration.  FTR, I don't normally seek restored books, although I'm not opposed to them and own a small number that benefit from it. I'm sure those books were restored long before I acquired them; I'd be unlikely to have professional restoration removed from a high grade book as the risk of damage might increase as would my displeasure if the removal impacted the book's appearance in any way.  Like it or not, restored books are an important part of the market and I'm confident the popularity will grow allong with percentage of Universal grade values over time. The only issue with restoration carried over from the early days of grading has always been disclosure. And with third party grading being the marketplace standard, that issue was laid to rest even before the pressing debate started. My two cents (ale extra).

    Yes.  And I don't know.  But I know 1 thing...condition is everything.

All our rookie cards became worthless...unless they're PSA 10...and worth a fortune.  Who predicted that when we were collecting??

Throwing ideas out...maybe in the future...condition won't be the main factor.  Maybe it will be pedigree.

This is just simple economics. Flippers obviously have done the homework and see the value in restored books enough to unrestore them.

If collectors were more educated about restoration and paid more for that book when it was restored nobody would perform that work.

For example, let's say it was something like a 5.0 Restored, if buyers were willing to pay 3.5 Universal money for it as a 5.0 Restored, then that would remove the incentive for someone to buy it and remove the resto for a profit preserving the book AND keeping it better looking.

I argued the same for pressed books when the Great Pressing Wars were happening. If regular collectors were willing to pony up for "virgin" books they'd remove the profit incentive for pressing them and kill that market.

Those markets only exist because there's incentive.

    Yup.

But like I've said before...to make big $, you have to predict ahead.  Don't listen to what everyone else is saying.

The ship has already sailed on pressing-up books.  Every auction has already had the insiders combing over every book pre-auction...analyzing the pressing-up potential.

Um, are you predicting A2 will do more box office than A1?  If it's common sense?

Because there is no way that is happening.

I would be happy if it was good and did well, but I can see this writing on the wall from very, very far off.

    Yes...I'm predicting A2 will surpass A1.

All the "writing on the wall" by the media...is BLATANT LIES.

how deep into the bourbon are you?

If I had bourbon & branch fortification and was on-point every day like JR Ewing....I wouldn't have missed the auction of the Jock Ewing portrait.  Or the Evander Holyfield ear-bite boxing-gloves.

They went for $30k and $35k.  I'd have wanted to throw down and come up with payments somehow.

:roflmao: If Aquaman 2 comes within a billion of your $1.4B estimate, WB will be thrilled

    Who is WB ?

    Who is Disney/Marvel ?

What media 'reports' are you basing this on ?

And do you think the above entities care about box-office results ?

In my opinion, correct me if I'm wrong...the people who care about Aquaman 2 are Jason Momoa, James Wan, Yahya Abdul Mateen III, and Patrick Wilson.

With Wilson the weak link but he's trying...patrick-wilson-00.png

  12. In fact, common-sense says that A2's box-office will surpass A1's.

They're not changing the formula.  In fact, it's even more jacked.  The media under-reported how much audiences liked A1.  And there's less competition.  Remember how the media said Mary Poppins would bury Aquaman?  And Transformers and Alita Battle Angel also premiered on the same day.

lol Aquaman did nearly $300M in China, Aquaman 2 is lagging behind The Flash (which did $26M total in China) in pre-sales there

But who pre-pays to see a movie?  In this case, only the 1% who are diehard comic or DC fans...who yes, listen to media 'reports' about James Gunn, the 2025 DC rumors, etc.

But common-sense says that A1 & A2 shouldn't be all that different for general audiences.

  14. On 12/4/2023 at 9:05 PM, paperheart said:

Only possible saving grace at BO is that Tweelie Wonka seems to be the only competition

Or that overseas audiences, who gave Aquaman 1 over $800M....don't care about any of the reasons why the US media says Aquaman 2 will fail.

Even US audiences don't care about James Gunn, Peter Safran, Amber Heard, Blue Beetle, Flash, the Superman Legacy pre-production....or any of that .

I’m a big fan of some of the cartoon comics, and one reason I feel that they don’t have the same popularity is that there are few “first appearances” in the comics. So you have to settle for “first comic book appearance” which does not carry the same weight. For example, Action Comics 1 is the first appearance of Superman, anywhere. I struggle to think of a cartoon character parallel from the GA. Combine that with the fact that even a lot of the first comic book appearances aren’t well-documented, and it makes for a hard jumping on point for traditional collectors, even those familiar with the cartoons.

More Fun Comics #31 pre-dates Action Comics #1.

Cover date May, 1936.  Registry date May 10, 1936.  '4-1' written in pencil on the Church copy (by the newsstand).

The Action #1 cover is in the interior pages.

This was never deleted. It was moved to "General Discussion" and then moved back.

Hey...I found it in 2 seconds now.

But I looked for a long time before, and double-checked...and it wasn't anywhere.

Seems fishy....with most-media-hated Aquaman 2 coming and media-loved The Marvels bombing.

And CGC's main page hyping Wonka as a great December comic movie...and only listing A2 at the very bottom in the middle of a list of 4 other non-comic movies.

I agree on Aquaman.  Never even made a cover in the GA (at least not in the U.S.).

The only reason MF 73 matters is Green Arrow (as distinguished from the years earlier Arrow) & Speedy.

You have a point.  But on the other hand, it's interesting to see obscure interior pages.  That you never see unless in a modern reprint.

Like Aquaman batting Nazi U-boats in MF 73:

Aquaman is low on my list but his older GA and SA stories were quite creative and imaginative. The concept of being able to control all the creatures of the sea to do your bidding was pretty cool and unique.

The current Aquaman has lost that charm. Just another angry, body slamming ordinary “super hero”. Sign of the times I guess.

But when is the last movie that the star superhero and the main villain have been actual jacked body-slammers?

Black Manta is no joke.  He's been preparing.
