Wow never knew about that, but the dual appearance of both a house AD and a new color created page with Both characters clearly is heads above any single panel or advertising in establishing a true first appearance....this is head and above the usual reference and to my mind clearly establishes what Cap first published appearance is......This book is THE best underpriced  buy out there in the GA by a mile...especially given the recent record prices for Cap 1.

The difference is while it’s the first appearance thru a house ad… And a house ad appears in the HT 3…both being black and white , a original full color Cap page with Bucky appears on page 44. That in my opinion is a game changer.

Yeah color and with Bucky is nice.  But the bottom line is...does a character appear or not?  Can you see him or not?

    Spoiler

Whenever I see the question about an undervalued comic book, it’s easy to come up with “nuance” books like a character’s appearing in an in house ad prior to the actual first appearance of that character in a comic book story. A nuance book tends to be the focus for the advanced collector of a specified area in comics. That focus takes the collector deeper into the area and in this case, the Golden Age (which ended with the defeat of the last of the Axis Powers in 1945). What needs to be further pointed out is that the value of a nuanced book that has the character’s in house ad appearance is really being compared to the issue with that character’s defined first appearance. Superman is an example because what’s really said about his first in house ad appearance in terms of value and it being undervalued is when it’s primarily compared to the value of Action Comics 1. The same can be said about Timely’s “lesser tiered” books like Young Allies and how it’s really compared to the Marvel Mystery Comics and Captain America titles. DC golden age collectors and those focused on Fawcetts, Fox, Nedor, and etc. are not nuanced Timely collectors comparing values between first and second tier Timely books. The other significant point here is what the impact a book had on the industry and those that followed it. None of the books mentioned come anywhere near the impact Crime Does Not Pay 22 had on the entire history of comic books and is one major reason why it’s the most undervalued GA key.

    To me, it's the opposite.

My eyes seeing a character is a fact.  The first published image is a fact.

Everything else is nuance and opinion.

Opinion time...many years ago when fandom was just a baby everyone kept comic book knowledge to themselves until after they got the book...LOL. Anyway looking for the great boards opinion as to what is the single most undervalued GA comic book. Here is my vote:

Human Torch #3 (which is actually The HT's second issue, the first being the outstanding Red Raven #1)....Why...

Well....It is the true first appearance of Captain America in print form and in reality it truly is the first appearance of Captain American on page 44 of HT #3 (2). Lets say you consider house ad's of the future comic book not to count....Fair enough...I know the infamous Detective 26 etc. However while the inside  promotes Cap one coming out on Dec 20 Newstand I believe the inside front cover, that AD it a  refers to the reader to page 44...this reference is the key here, and the true first appearance of Cap and Bucky...in full page color appears, not a reproduction . You can reference this confirmation by Marvel and the outstanding omnibus edition "Timely's Greatest : The Golden Age Simon and Kirby" book. There description acknowledges as CA First Print appearance. It was the announcement of Cap's Club in full color. HT#3 (2) is clearly the must undervalued  GA comic book out there.

Agree or Disagree if you disagree what is it?

PS: somebody just paid $3.12 Million dollars the second apperance of Captain America....and I just love Cap #1 as one of my Favs of the GA, but HT 3(2) is a real bargain!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I absolutely agree 100%.

I was expecting some typical choice as I scrolled down on your post...but you're right on the money with this one!

First published image of Captain America.

Wasn't that about double guide or so for the time?  I don't understand your complaint

I'm not complaining.  Because I still have 2 books.

I say look ahead.  Give yourself a chance.  Young newbies...when iconic celebrities die... throw down on their current valid drivers license or passport.  It might be the 'rookie card' of celebrities in the future and worth a fortune.  I have Whitney Houston's passport that she was using.

I think my 9.6 white Church copy of More Fun Comics #31 1st printed image of Superman (4-1 on the cover; April 1) should be worth $20M lol.  My point is...there are still opportunities to give yourself a chance.  Be creative.  Don't just listen to standard advice.

Flash 1 at almost 50k a point is well deserved.  Not as rare as it seemed 10 years ago (same as AA 16).

I assume you mean it's MORE rare than it seemed.  10 years ago, no one considered Flash Comics #1 (1st appearance of The Flash.  First appearance of Hawkman) to even be a big deal.  No one on this board gave a sh*t about it.  They were too busy talking about Batman and cover art.  I should know...I sold my CGC 5.0 unrestored for $34K.  And everyone here said it was a good price.

I feel your pain after selling something similar to this in the early aughts for a few hundred.

The Flash #1 that everyone is saying is so rare now...the 1.8 that went for $84,000...I never thought it was overly rare.  Gerber 6 I think.  But that's why I only collect GA comics.  Huge potential.  I sold my 5.0 copy 6 years ago for $34K.

But...I'm not kicking myself.  I still have my best comic...that I've caught some heat for saying I think it's worth 10X the past going-rate.  I based my opinion by what sports cards are going for...and now GA key comics are following suit.

Not sure what criteria you use to call a movie that came out in the middle of the pandemic a flop, but it exceeded (rightfully lowered) expectations. The first Wonder Woman film still has the highest domestic box office of any DCEU film. Perhaps China will eventually have strong demand for MF73, but that remains to be seen. No doubt, MF73 is currently the key issue in the MF run, and it might stay that way, but it's tough to call it undervalued at present. As stated earlier, WW is 3rd in DC licensing revenue and doesn't appear to be in any danger to drop below that (nor does she come close to threatening the money making duo of Batman/Superman).

WW grossed $167M worldwide.  You can argue decent or flop (for a GA Justice Leaguer).  But the $19M in China was bad...a Chinese movie set a record of like $500 not long after.  Also, low grade copies of AS8 and MF73 sold for similar prices before this big boom.

All I'm saying is that the prices should eventually even out.  It's not like there's some huge ingrained difference between WW, Aquaman, Flash, and Green Lantern.

Hhhhmmmm I think Wonder Woman is better known.

Linda Carter is iconic.  But things change.  WW2 flopped.  Aquaman is the top grossing DC movie.  All I'm saying is that I expect things to even out.  WW shouldn't necessarily have an All-Time thread since 2007 unless Aquaman has one too.

Could you please just make one post without pumping so hard?

I've been suggesting ideas for newbies for years.  Things that have big potential.  Give yourself a chance.

1 hour after I finally said on here that I bought Whitney's passport (for $15K...not like hey, look at how rich I am)...I'm accused of being all full of mess and pumping.

I totally understand how you feel in terms of your post here as I also feel exactly the same way when it comes to my collection now.  (thumbsu

Unfortunately for me, I just don't seem to have the same intestinal fortitude like you to actually go through my collection to sort and catalogue everything and sadly, never ever did.  All I know is that I enjoy looking at them and then simply put them back in the same bag and order I found them in.  It just seems like an unimaginable task to sort and catalogue at this point with respect to the back issues I had brought back in the day since I had a nasty habit of leaving them in the order which they were brought. doh!  So, it's certainly a nice feeling to come across a few minor BA keys like Thor 165, Werewolf by Night 32, Iron Man 55, etc. :banana:which I never even remember ever having and right in there amongst all of the worthless drek titles like Man from Atlantis, Human Fly, Death's Head, etc. :p    which had long been burned right into my mind. :)

No such luck when it comes to the GA books because I have so few of those and they clearly did cost me some money to acquire in the first place.  The only exception being a nice copy of More Fun 67 right there in amongst the other ones I had, and for the life of me, just can't remember when and where I had gotten it from and for how much.  Clearly only a few hundred dollars or else I would have remembered the book, but it's always a nice feeling when you come across little hidden treasures like these that you never thought you had in the first place.  :whee:

    Such problems lol.

Hey...we age 50+-ers can't take our comics with us.  I mean I'd rather drop dead than depart with my favorite comic....but I really want to give the newbies on the GA forum some great advice.  So they can have fun all their life thinking about their item before they drop dead and it gets sold.  Seriously...it's good to not care about $.

In 3 years, I might need $ to pay for my niece's college.  Someone about age 30 should buy my Whitney Houston current valid passport when she passed away.  Because in the future I GUARANTEE this and her current valid Drivers License will be the 'rookie cards' of celebrities.  Worth $10M for sure...but after I croak lol.
