  1. Yes, I've been frustrated by that as well. I always enjoyed pretty MJ and Gwen, but today things are getting crazy. I'll take the 60's thru 80's any day! Just me...
  2. I may come back. but not as fast as Krammer did in that episode!
  3. Enjoy, Bob! You helped me buy my home with all of the books you sold for me!
  4. Yep...makes it really tough, but that's how my brain is wired as well!
  5. Yes it is. The numbers are crazy. Helps make the decision easier for sure.
  6. Thank you all for your comments. Obviously, we all approach collecting in our own way. This is what's right for me. I will keep some items that are really meaningful to me, and I will always have a warm spot for Spidey. It's just hard to see so much money in my closet that can benefit my family and other priorities. Also, I have a real concern about leaving thousands of comics for my family to deal with should something happen to me. If money was no issue, I would keep going, but I think this will be best. I may change my mind and decide to get back in, and then I'll assess what' affordable and fun for me going forward. My kids still want to hit an occasional comic show, and I'm good with that! Again, thank you for your comments, and best of luck with your collections! Definitely buy what you love, and enjoy your collection. V/R, Mike
  7. Yes, I have decided to get out of comics. I have collected since I was a kid, and I took a long break through high school and college, but I'm calling it quits. For me, the joy of comics was it brought me back to the childhood feeling of joy and wonder at the coolness of being a superhero. Early on, I loved Captain America and Daredevil, and then I really focused on Spider-Man. I have enjoyed collecting Spider-Man comics for several decades now. At one point, I sold off a bunch of my best books to help buy our home. It was a tough decision, but it helped us get into a wonderful home we live in now. I started back into replacing some of those books, but the prices have really made that difficult. As a collector who really prefers high-grade copies, that's become impossible with the current prices, at least for me. So I changed my focus, and I went after Conan and Swamp Thing, two of my long likes but not passions. I picked up a set of the Swamp Thing from 1-11 in NM or better, and I picked up most of the early Conan's through 100. I used to buy the Conan's off the shelf when I was a kid, so I have some high-grade issues I hand-picked myself. Now, my energy and my focus is coming back to my family and other things. For me personally, I can't justify spending thousands of dollars for slabbed copies that have skyrocketed in value in recent years. I will be selling off most of my collection, and I know it will be a pain and a ton of work. The slabbed copies are easy, but I have many boxes of high-grade but unslabbed comics. Some are probably junk, like full sets of all of the Spider-Man series up through the 80's, 90's, 00's. They have value to Spidey collectors, but not much real value. Plus I have lots of mini statues, other statues, and other collectibles. I will keep some cool items that mean a lot to me, as I will always have a soft spart in my heart for Spider-Man. Good luck to many of you I have purchased books from over the years. I appreciate your help along the way, and I hope you have continued joy from your collecting. V/R, Mike
  8. Yes, I have already used those CGC boxes over the years. I think I'll end up packing about one-box load at a time, and make several trips to the mail place.
  9. Thank you, this looks doable. Just going to be a pain. Thank you!
  10. Through the mail? Can I assume you're joking? The plastic on plastic would be a nightmare if and when the box is dropped or handled roughly. I could wrap each case but then I would have to ship even more boxes, and there really isn't any room with the tight fit of the graded comics in the boxes.
  11. Need some help, please. Looks like I'll be shipping 5-6 full CGC boxes of graded comics. Any ideas on the best way to do this? I would drive them, but it's just too far and would take 4 days. I was thinking there are shipping companies that will come to your home and crate larger items. I've used the service before for furniture, but not something fragile like comics. Separating the comics into separate boxes or trying to wrap each box seems like a bad idea. Any ideas? I'm sure some of you do this all the time. Not sure how dealers move their boxes to shows, but I assume some drive and some ship them dep[ending upon the distance. Thank you! V/R, Mike
  12. Love Colorado! Looks like an amazing location! Good luck finishing the home and your special room. V/R, Mike
  13. Maybe I will offer them here...in the right forum...
  14. No one has any advice for selling Bowen's statues?
  15. Hello! I have decided to sell about 20 Bowen's minis. Any advice on an approach where I can get close to value? Does anyone consign them? I suppose there is always eBay... I could also sell them on the boards. V/R, Mike
  16. Thank you. I guess conservative is the right word. I was thinking tight and consistent, but conservative is probably better. I have purchased books from Dale, Gary, and Ted, but it's been awhile. For the boards, it's hit or miss about what's being offered. I'm always checking the sales stuff, but Spidey items go fast. V/R, Mike
  17. Who are some companies or dealers you trust for raw comics? Not just the cheap books, but even better copies? Understand that most high-dollar books are being slabbed for obvious reasons, but when it comes to picking up more common runs in raw NM, who do you go to? My recent and long-term tops are: Bob Storms at High Grade Comics (he's always pointing out things of interest like ink or writing or dings on books; recently picked up a handful of Conan's and they are very nice!); Doug Sulipa at Comic World (I've picked up a bunch of books from him, and he/they are almost always spot-on); and, Lone Star Comics (I think they grade too tightly for consigned books, but the higher prices show customers know this). There are some good sellers here on the boards, of course. I really am not trying to slam some of the usual suspects here. Please stay positive and put up your best raw graders/companies. Thank you. V/R, Mike
