  1. Folks, I'm approaching 60-years-old, and I recently updated our will and a planning document for my wife on how to handle insurance, health care, etc., in case something happens to me. I was trying to come up with a plan for how to deal with my comics collection. Mine isn't nearly as large as many of you have, as I have under 2,500 comics. All are bagged and boarded and in in storage boxes. I have a listing of the decent books, but not a perfect or full listing of issues, grades, and values. Also, I have some small statues and other collectible items that have some value. Any thoughts on helping out with selling off a good-size collection in a reasonable way for family? I realize this would likely include bulk selling to a trusted dealer or two, but my wife and kids have no idea about the details of my collection or where to start. Having buried a sister years ago, I know how awful it is to deal with all of the burial details, and of course all of the personal belongings. I would like to make taking care of the comics less of a pain. I do have a good accounting of the key or higher-valued comics, but many on smaller dollar comics. My focus is on Spider-Man issues and titles plus cover appearances from the 60's through the about 1990. Many of these comics, like Questprobe 2, are fun for me to own, but not worth much. In my plan for emergency contacts, I gave my wife the name of a trusted dealer with whom I've sold a number of key books in the past. Yet he's on the east coast, and I live in the LA area. Do any of you know a good and honest dealer in the LA area who could be trusted to help with the bulk of my collection? I would like to contact them and provide the details to my family. Of course, I hope to be living and collecting for many years to come--God willing; however, I want to have some peace of mind that I'm not leaving my family with a big mess to deal with in case something happens to me. Also, I would prefer to get some of the value out of the collection that would help my family. Thank you for your thoughts and ideas on this important issue. I hope you all have a blessed Easter holiday weekend. V/R, Mike
  2. It was easier when I just handed all my graded books to you to sell for me, Bob! That seems like so long ago... V/R, Mike
  3. I did pick up Comic Collector (Collectorz.com), and I understand it downloads prices. I haven't broken it in enough to check it out yet. Are its prices any good for graded and raw comics? I note you can input the grades and CGC status. V/R, Mike
  4. Newbie question... What's the best site for current prices for raw comics? I have GPA for CGC'd books. I'm considering unloading some of my raw books via here or eBay. Thank you much. V/R, Mike
  5. From a 24-year AF vet, thank you for your service, and Godspeed! Good luck with your sales. V/R, Mike
  6. Loose in-between waxy pages. For me, there is no value in having the gum continuing to degrade inside a NM mini comic. V/R, Mike
  7. Roger that...so many decisions in comics are personal! V/R, Mike
  8. I agree with your comments. Yes, the Bubble Funnies was cheap, surprisingly so, but I did pay more for the sealed record. You are right, without unsealing it, you can't know the actual condition. And I know the Mylar will last forever, but the plastic likely degrades and may damage the contents. I would also worry about the gum attracting critters... V/R, Mike
  9. Hello! Just curious, I know when a bagged comic is submitted to CGC, they take the comic out and throw away the bag. But what about comics with other items of possible value, like records, loose cards, etc.? I recently bought one of the mini Spider-Man comics (Amazing Spider-Man, Bubble Funnies, In the Clutches of Doc Ock (1981)) still sealed in plastic wrap and the gum inside. I took off the plastic, removed and threw away the gum, and put the mini comic in Mylar with a fullback. I just purchased Amazing Spider-Man, The Mark of the Man-Wolf (Book & Record Set) (1974), and it's still in the plastic. Looks absolutely perfect, but I am thinking of removing the plastic to store the comic in Mylar and fullback, and tucking the record into its own bag (but keeping them together). What do you think? I purchased the comic/record for my personal collection, so my interest now is storage for the long-term. My focus is high-grade Spider-Man comics from ASM to guest appearances, up through about 1990 and ASM 700. V/R, Mike
  10. Hello, Just curious if there is interest for Shi items. I have a small pile of Shi comics, all the original series, and many signed by Tucci. These are unread, and NM+ copies. Plus, I have a bunch of the early Ash Cans, 1-5, I think of the original series. I really liked the cover art back then, so I picked them up. Finally, I purchased the initial Shi uncut card sheet. I need to look it over, but it should be in great shape as it's in the original shipping container. Anyway, I'm cleaning out some of my stuff to make room for my real comic passion, which is Spider-Man (at least the ASMs up to 700 and related titles, one-shots, and guest appearances (generally 1990 and earlier)). If you're interested, I will figure out how to post pictures and list the items. Otherwise, I think I'll try my luck with eBay or find someone else to sell them. Bob Storms has sold a ton of books for me... Have a great weekend. V/R, Mike
  11. Thank you all for the feedback. The software and the technology keeps moving so fast now...scanners for barcodes for newer books, etc. Crazy stuff. I think I'll look more closely at CLZ and CB. V/R, Mike
  12. Do any of you use store-bought software products to track you collections, like Comic Collector? I have been making my own spreadsheets for years. I would love to have software which includes the issues of regular titles, variants, etc., plus price updates, etc. Also, love to be able to add in my own cover scans. V/R, Mike
  13. Thank you much! The site was cool. I focus on older Spider-Man stuff, so these are awesome! V/R, Mike
  14. Why are these all Spider-Man minis? I thought the set included six characters? V/R, Mike
  15. Can you post the pics of ASM 121 and 122? Thank you! V/R, Mike Oops, looks like I missed it...
