    Would anyone be willing to hazard a guess on whether these figures, and the similar ones to be gleaned from DC, Marvel, etc INCLUDE or EXCLUDE those copies destined for Blighty?

    No idea, but if they don’t include UKPV copies that means the counter was reset after the first set printed (pence or cents).... and that means somewhere a record exists of the UKPV print run. Doesn’t it also mean that UKPVs would have been an ADDITIONAL print run, so if Spider-Man US cents print run was normally say 400,000 then in periods of UKPV there would have been an additional say 20,000 printed.

    This one has always stuck in my mind, it appears in Rawhide Kid #151 - the last issue - and shows in 1979 sales of 90,000 got a comic cancelled.

    I believe the seller is an (ex?) boardie. I wonder if the decimal point is in the wrong place, whilst no doubt rare (although this is third of these I’ve seen since following this thread) can’t see anyone £600 interested.
    Marwood and this thread gets a name check.

  3. Best wishes for new year to you too Marwood and all other board members.

    Anyway I’ve made the decision to whittle my collection down to stuff I have some attachment to. I’m not sure exactly what that is but will be mainly up to early 1970s with some titles running to their initial end; reboots will be my jumping off point. I’ve already made a start selling and the plan is to put the proceeds into upgrading silver age and buying more issues Patsy & Hedy.

    Waiting to see what your new discoveries are........

    Don't know how I missed this thread, awesome stuff Gary, any chance of showing some more of your stuff UK or American?

    I think this is the extent of my UK comic give-always. I’ve posted a couple of MMMS items in a MMMS thread. My favourites are Marvelmania items - perhaps I’ll have a search see if there is already a thread or perhaps start one to show some stuff.

  5. Talking of pocket books. Did you ever collect the UK Marvel ones. I still have FF and Chiller. There were also Hulk Star Wars  Romance and Spiderman at least.

    I’m a big fan of Barry Windsor-Smith so collected his Conan ones.

    I digress but are BWS Conans the most reprinted comics ever? Off the top of my head I can think of Conan Saga, Chronicles of Conan, Conan Giant-size, Conan classics, UK weekly, Essential Conan, omnibus, epic collection, tempo Star paperbacks......

  6. From UK fanzine Panelologist #3 1975. It suggests T&P forgot to order two months worth of DCs (they were no longer the distributors of Marvels). I don't collect DC so not sure if they did fail to appear. It says returns may turn up later which suggests these were not returns but especially printed for UK (were/would they have been UKPV?) If UKPV it seems odd to me T&P would be ordering month to month and not have a longer term arrangement/contract in place.

    To all those in the UK who read this thread, can you check your collections, records and memories and tell me whether any of you have a copy of, or can recall seeing another copy of this comic in pence:

    It's the last pence cover month - December 1981 - and I have only ever seen this one copy.

    I know it's a reprint title, and the numbers produced may therefore have been low, but one copy in ten years seems odd to me.

    A pence copy is on its way to me curtesy of ebay. I was rather surprised there were two other bidders and bidding was fierce, I was eventually bid up to £3 plus postage. A bargain as it must be rarer than Amazing Fantasy #15.

    And here is a DD#29 set of two - one oblong 10d with bonus shilling stamp, one shilling in a circle on its own:

    Completely the wrong issue 'hiatus-wise', but who's counting

    These oblong (Gold Star) and circles do turn up outside of the two month hiatus. When I had a go at plotting stamped Marvels these 10d oblong and 1/-circle stamps appeared quite regularly during the two month hiatus Oct-Dec 1966 but a smattering also appeared on UKPVs around that period. I recorded a FF 62, Spider-man 51, Strange Tales 162 and Thor 144. Here's a Spider-man 47 (the hiatus months being #41 and 42);

    The question still remains, why did no late 1960 (Strange Tales # 78, JIM # 61, TTA # 11, 12, 13, TOS # 11, 12) Marvels arrive, pence or cents?

    I've speculated quite a bit about the missing UKPVs in my Marvel, Miller and US Price Font threads.

    There were 19 titles running when the UKPVs started up from cover date May 1960. Of those 19, 6 have no UKPVs at all so we can discount them (Date with Millie, Kathy, Love Romances, Millie the Model, My Own Romance & Teen-Age Romance). 4 were distributed by L Miller so we can discount them (Gunsmoke Western, Rawhide Kid, Wyatt Earp and TGK).

    Of the remaining 9 titles, distributed by T&P, the gaps plot by cover date as follows:

    9.thumb.PNG.745ca0b549d8febd9237e565f1635f5f.PNG

    There is no calendar month where at least one 9d UKPV does not appear and no real overarching patterns (e.g. the same gaps across the board or volume of issues per calendar month). Although KCO's three missing issues corelate with TTA's and JIM's one correlates with ST. Fairly tenuous

    I’ve taken Marwood’s spreadsheet and added and sorted by release date (taken from Mikes Amazing World of Comics).

    If we accept that Patsy Walker, Patsy & Hedy and My Girl Pearl just got dropped, then there seems a bit more consistency, if looking at release date then in all months Marvels were either all UKPV or none were. Of course there is as always a hic-up in May 1960 which has UKPV and non arrivals.

    You may see something I'm not, perhaps I'm seeing something not there but I think there is something in release dates rather than cover dates. Might explain why Albert missed some issues as certain release date months appear to have no Marvels.

  10. Yes, all the memorabilia is reprint, all on paper, even the MMMS badge, and many items are different size to original. My favourite piece is a reprint of Stan Lee’s typed synopsis for FF#1 which I don’t recall reading any where else.

    A spider-man one was also produced;
