  2. I haven't sold here in a long time, having a 2.5 year old isn't leaving much time but I have amassed way too much stuff and running out of room. This will be a very disorganized thread in terms of titles and issues as I haven't been good about keeping things organized the last couple of years. I've been here long enough that most of the old time boardies (what's left of them at least) have dealt with me. If you haven't dealt with me before and need references, I'm sure you can ask most people that have been here more than a few years. I've never had any issues with transactions here. I try to grade the way I think CGC will grade and I've never had anyone return a book because they didn't like my grade. I'm also usually in the top 5 of contestants in the grading contests (and have won 2... when I participate). All of that said, I'm human and could miss stuff so if I did miss something or if you don't agree with my grade, simply return the book(s). Please read the rules below. I'll start listing in a couple of minutes and will list approximately 20 books today. If there is interest and things are selling, I will add books daily. I have 15 or so short boxes so lots of stuff although most of it will go in the Copper section where I will be opening another thread. Copper thread can be found here

    1) PayPal is the preferred method of payment but will accept Zelle and checks.

    2) Shipping is at actual cost at whatever level of service you want. I do not ship media mail. I will ship to Canada, again at your cost of whatever level of service you want.

    3) Returns accepted within 7 days of delivery, but buyer pays return shipping.

    4) No probies or HOS or anyone I might have on ignore.

    5) Some form of I'll take it in the thread trumps any and all PM negotiations. Until you or I post I'll take it in the thread, the book is open so if someone happens to post I'll take it in thread but we've agreed to a different price via PM and just haven't posted the I'll take it in the thread yet, the in thread I'll take it by the new poster will take the book.

So, from your post above, am I safe to assume that you weren't the buyer of the Iron Man 30 for $15K as this amount is meaningful to to you?  hm

Or on the other hand, from your post below, should I assume that you were indeed the buyer of the Iron Man 30 for $15K because dropping that kind of dough on a comic book is meaningless and inconsequential to you and you also wanted to avoid another $100K night of debauchery in a Vegas nightclub?  (shrug)

    I plead the 5th

I am actually NOT presuming anything at all about the buyer, as I was really talking more about the book itself and the price paid for it.  (thumbsu

Of course there are potential buyers for books at $15K where this kind of money is nothing more than loose pocket change to them.  I am just referring to the fact that since there are now many more copies of this book in the same equivalent CGC 9.8 grade, I hope like most vintage collectible comic books here, the subsequent sale of these additional copies when they do come to market, only helps to reinforce the $15K purchase price which the buyer had paid for the original first 9.8 graded copy and the value of the book continues to move upwards with these subsequent sales.  :wishluck:

Not sure why you are presuming that the price would not only drop down, but plummet all the way from $15K right down to only $500?  :tonofbricks:  (shrug)

To each their own, but when buyers purchase a book for their collection, wouldn't it only make sense that they hope for additional copies to come into the marketplace, no matter the grade, to hopefully reinforce the price which they had paid for their copy of the book.  Heck, personally for myself, I get a bit excited and can't wait when I see other copies of books which I had purchased, no matter the grade, come to auction just to see how they do and whether or not this means the valuation of my copy continues to increase or not.    :taptaptap:  :taptaptap:

    Because that's what I think it's worth?

I won 1 book last auction.  It was decently expensive, not crazy. Shipping was $65. I did contact my auction coordinator, and they explained it was "new shipping rates".

Something is off here. I'm literally in CL's checkout page right now. I have 2 books won in this auction and my shipping charges are $35 for 2-3 books (that is the available tier because I won 2 books). How can shipping 1 book be more than 2-3? Now, Express Insured in $60 and Overnight Insured is $95 but that is not standard shipping.

I'm not sure I agree with that.  As with any collectibles industry there is a pyramid of buyers that as the price goes up the pool gets smaller.

Yes $15K is a meaningful amount of money but in a hot market $15K looks like $1500 when you are turning that money over quickly.

When the market is slow it looks like a museum piece

That is a relative statement. $15K is a meaningful amount of money to you and I. It isn't to someone that can afford to drop 6 figures on a night of drinking and partying.

Why are you asking us the question when you give us the answer right away in your next sentence:  :ohnoez:

This actually reminds me of the Iron Man 30 when the only CGC 9.8 copy in the entire universe at the time sold in a CC auction for some $15K back in 2016:  :whatthe:

All I can say is that since there are now 6 copies in CGC 9.8, I just hope that the subsequent sales for them helped to reinforce that initial $15K purchase price for the buyer like it should, but I somehow strongly doubt it.  hm  (shrug)

You're making an assumption that $15K is a meaningful amount of money to the buyer of this book. It probably isn't. There are people that throw down $100K at a club in Vegas for a night of bottle service without blinking an eye. There are people in the comic hobby to whom $15K is pocket change and more than worth finishing a 9.8 set that they are working on. Don't know about you but I'd rather drop $15K on a comic book that will subsequently be worth $500 than $100K on a night of debauchery in a Vegas club.

I don't think there's any world where shipping one slab should be $65 unless is 25k+ and registered.  Even then, I think it's cheaper.

A slab that's well packed is about what? $16 retail with no paypal/ebay/pirateship discount?  Cheaper if using literally ANY merchant account for shipping.

I have no idea where you are getting $65 for one book unless you live outside the US. I'm in CL checkout right now and it's $35 for 2-3 books (ground), sooo considerably cheaper than $65 for one book. Unless you want expedited shipping, which is of course far more expensive but FedEx charges an arm and a leg for overnight shipping so CL would of course pass that on.

Does anyone know why Comiclink's shipping is so high?  CGC can send a box of 25 slabs for about $45. Comiclink sends one book and it's $65. 37 books is $250ish.....  They are using the Diamond Comics method of turning their shipping department into an income stream.

CL pays retail and CGC doesn't. Shipping through CGC was considerably more pre-Blackrock acquisition. Also, CL is probably baking in cost of supplies in their shipping where CGC could be considering that into their cost to slab. But I think the not paying retail is where the majority of the savings come from. I doubt CL is making much, if anything, from shipping charges. The cost of shipping these days is outrageous and getting more so every day it seems.

The first appearances for each of the characters above not named Fury are worth more than the first appearance of Sgt. Fury, and have been going back many years before Samuel L. Jackson got involved, so I think it's simply due to popularity of the various characters, right?

Looking at the 9.8 prices you shared above, I don't understand why Iron Man #1 in 9.8 is worth so much more than Hulk #102 in 9.8, other than the fact that Iron Man is a #1, and not a #102.

Far, far, far superior cover on the IM 1. IMO, one of the best covers of the late silver age. Hulk 102 cover... very meh
