  1. Still entices me now. I mean why change a good thing? Another wild looking and great tasting flavour is Blue Moon: The only time I've ever had it was at Stroh's ice cream parlour in the Renaissance Center in Detroit about 30 years ago.
  2. Any James Bama fans on this board? Here's the classic diptych he did that was turned into the box art for two of the Aurora monster model kits: Here's his artwork for the Aurora Gigantic Frankenstein model kit: Here's an even better Frankenstein he did for a Signet paperback:
  3. The WOMAN's favourite! It's a Canadian innovation not widely found in the States, I was only five or six years old when I first saw pistachio ice cream at a variety store on a family excursion to Springbank Park in London. It could have been Shaw's or Silverwood's or Borden's or Neilson's, it didn't matter. I mean green ice cream! My eyes must have bugged out. And yes, my dad bought me a two scoop cone for a dime and it was delicious! The pistachio almond/pistachio nut Baskin Robbins and Laura Secord serve these days isn't right though. It's not sweet enough and it doesn't have enough food colouring.
  4. I'll be hitting Port Stanley later this month. I'll check the condiments table at Mackie's for mayo. We'll also be sure to stop at Shaw's Dairy bar for some ice cream on the way back. Shaw's Ice Cream
  5. No, those don't interest me. They're commonly sold at bottle and glassware shows though.
  6. Cool! A great combo even without the glass! Here's Scout today with old Uncle Ace:
  7. The first comics I can remember reading were the Felix's Nephews Inky & Dinky. I recall my buddy and I from across the street thought that Dinky was a very cool name. We both liked Dinky! The first comics I can recall buying were the Cicero's Cat 1 and 2 in the summer of 1959. I bought them at Ken's Variety on Wharncliffe Road in London, Ontario and I very clearly remember my father initially telling me to take #2 back because he thought I already had a copy!
  8. Is that rush hour near Fresno or Pomona? Or is that San Bernardino?
  9. Oh man! With all this talk about A&W's roller waitresses, now I really need to get to an A&W restaurant this week!
  10. Challenging a big cat can be the last mistake even the biggest of fellows makes:
  11. Cool! I always thought roller waitresses were mainly a California thing. Where was this then? Any pictures of her in uniform? I have no recollection going back to 1959 of the one in west London on Springbank Drive having roller waitresses. Nor do I remember any of the other three in London having roller waitresses going back to the late sixties. I'll ask my brother-in-law who's eleven years older than I am whether he remembers roller waitresses anywhere in London.
  12. There's one on Bascom about 5 miles away. It's next to one of my favorite haunts, Guitar Showcase, so I see it frequently but haven't been inside one in years. Now I'm craving their root beer, so I may just pop in next time. For Teen Burgers, Whistle Dogs, Coney Fries and the root beer, I make special trips!
  13. Oh man! Mystery in Space deserves its reputation of being the top fifties sci-fi title of them all. (thumbs u
  14. The classic documentary on jaguars is Walt Disney's1959 Jungle Cat which features a spotted female and a black male. At one point the male kills a croc by holding it down and drowning it. At another the female confronts a huge anaconda which she feels is a threat to her cubs. Then the big male arrives and basically says "No. This is a job for me, dear!" The male then pursues his attack relentlessly. He seems positively determined to kill the snake to reinforce the point that he's the toughest hombre in the jungle.
  15. Oh no! Jaguars do it all the time. Crocs are a regular part of their diet, There are plenty of videos: Jaguars have the greatest bite strength of all the big cats.
  16. How close are you to an A&W these days?
  17. Interesting! The two mugs I have that my father bought evidently date back to 1951-61: There are two freestanding A&W locations on Yonge Street in Toronto not far from my office and one on Dundas Street near my sister's house in east London. I can therefore go for a cold one almost anytime! .
  18. That's so weird. I just pulled a baby one of these out of storage last week because a friend wanted to do shots and I didn't have anything else that would work. My oldest brother gave it to me. He said it was a fad at the time to put them in the back window of your car. That's because they were usually stolen. I still have the two my father brought back from a fishing trip in 1962(?). He didn't obtain them through proper channels though. He bought them. A&W root beer is really good. It's better than either Hires or Barq's. And in a frosty refrigerated mug it can't be beat!
  19. Here cousin Spot goes out and gets some takeout for lunch:
  20. These girls don't quite seem to get the hang of the game.... ::
  21. Here's Scout battling old Uncle Ace for his bed in the kitchen: And here she is trying to horn in on The MAN's breakfast last Saturday after leaping from the scratching post onto his shoulder:
  22. The ones with the old logo may very well have some collector value:
  23. I just noticed that my Andrew Dairy half-pint chocolate milk bottle features the same 104 phone number! I suspect that Andrew Dairy must have been the successor to Baxter's Dairy.
