  1. My guesses: Batman 212 Justice League 72 Our Army at War 207 Sugar and Spike 83
  2. I think a major part of the reason behind the "value" packs is that DC and other comic publishers were getting push back from the major chain retailers with respect to securing shelf space on magazine racks for twelve cent magazines. A $0.59 price point was more attractive to supermarkets, K-Mart, Woolco, etc. Moreover I think the bags were designed to be hung from pegs at checkout counters, thus being the classic impulse purchase where mothers would make the final decision.
  3. Interesting! I wasn't even aware of the existence of those later five for 59 cent ones. It looks as if DC went back to cardboard header cards for those.
  4. That pac looks as if it has a cardboard header card. The ones with the cardboard header cards are more prized than the all-cellophane ones. Here's a thread I started on the subject last November: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Board=16&Number=6151325&Searchpage=1&Main=278063&Words=Comicpac+Hepcat&topic=0&Search=true#Post6151325 Is it from 1962? If so, which is it? I'm guessing yours may contain a Sugar and Spike issue. I'd love to find one containing a Fox and the Crow issue. The ones issued in 1966-67 are easily ten times more common than the ones issued in 1962 when DC did it for the first time.
  5. Gil Kane was evidently not above recycling his earlier covers: Exhibit A Exhibit B
  6. Be nice to get a few more early Rip Hunters. Here`s one anyway:
  7. Yes, I remember now that you've mentioned him before. Cool! The intro of Bat-Mite! He was an anti-hero before the term was even invented. (thumbs u
  8. The basic composition of the cover in conjunction with Star Sapphire's pink costume and pose make the cover a real treat for the eyes. Here's a thread for posting and discussing precisely covers of that sort: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=6669258&fpart=1
  9. Wow! Batman 112 we hardly ever see in these here parts and now we get two fabulous ones on the very same page! (thumbs u BTW, did you get the name of the newsstand?
  10. Sounds like the CGC modus operandi alright. Look for nicks and imperfections, add them all up, but ignore the overall eye appeal of the comic.
  11. Oh yeah! That's bright and lovely! (thumbs u Why do you think CGC downgraded it?
  12. Wow! That #112 is particularly impressive. (thumbs u
  13. I have Hal Jordan edging out Alan Scott, Arisia, Ch'p and Katma Tui in my own personal Green Lantern popularity sweepstakes. Here's a poll I did on the subject: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Board=4&Number=5690225&Searchpage=1&Main=258552&Words=Arisia+Hepcat&topic=0&Search=true#Post5690225
  14. It's not the mods you want. The ones on this board aren't privy to the internal workings of CGC. They're actually professional mods. They just about never participate in any board discussions. Quite simply they're not interested in the subject matter of this board. Putting a number on a comic makes it fair game for second guessing. Please don't interpret such as akin to a personal attack..If you're pleased with a comic, then nothing a third party says matters anyway. And for the sake of balance you might check out this post, as well as a number of others: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1776139&fpart=187 My policy is to buy the comic, not the label anyway.
  15. Well logically you would think that whatever factors cause a comic to deviate from like new right-off-the-press condition should absolutely be a consideration, but I'm the wrong person to ask if you want an explanation of the machinations of CGC.
  16. Excellent train cover Steve. Since I love trains, I love train covers!
  17. That cover doesn't look white and bright enough to be a 9.8 to me. Is that just a function of your photography or is CGC so focused on technical nicks and such that considerations such as whiteness/brightness are ignored by its graders?
  18. Here are my top twelve Green Lantern covers from my collection:
  19. Cool! Twilight Zone is one of those more modern titles that has a lot of aesthetic appeal to me. Right now though I have only a few isolated examples in my collection. Here are scans of a few of my New Terrytoons comics: 13 14 15 16 I just love Heckle and Jeckle!
  20. Here are scans of my ten cent Sea Devils comics:
  21. Mmmmm, Lois is looking really stacked there! The Superman titles had so many great cover concepts back in the day! These days all the superheroes do on the cover is grimace.
