  1. Gil Kane's artwork, particularly his drawing of human figures, evolved dramatically between the years 1963-64 and 1969-70. Here are some of his Green Lantern covers from 1963-64:

In my opinion his representation of both human faces and figures declined dramatically over those five or six years. Granted the earlier covers were all inked by the old master Murphy Anderson while the latter ones were inked by Kane himself, but I believe that Kane's style had evolved in a more surrealistic direction over those years. And I much prefer his earlier artwork.

  2. Great stuff! Adventure Comics #319 is a surprisingly difficult issue to find for a comic from 1964. I still don't have one and I'd really like to fill in my Legion of Super-Hero covers up to at least issue #330. The early Legion covers I still need are #247, 267, 287, 300, 307, 311, 312, 316, 317, 319, 320, 324 and 330 with #267, 311, 312, 316, 317 and 319 being the ones I want the most for nostalgic or aesthetic reasons.

  3. My favourite canine comic character is Brer Fox of Uncle Remus fame:

Here are some comics I have with Brer Fox cover appearances:

But best of all is this custom stained glass window featuring Brer Fox and Flower from Bambi in the door leading from my collectibles room to the upstairs balcony:

Incidentally, was the phrase "Flake off!" in popular use anywhere in the States back in the 1960's? I know it got considerable traction in Pete Millar's Drag Cartoons as well but otherwise I never encountered it.

If people saw how she kept her collection they would be sad. Very important comics chilling in stacks and on the floor

But who saw how she kept her collection? Did you?

    ???

I don't think those very few photos taken by reporters were indicative of how she kept her comics. I'm guessing that the comics were placed that way for a more dramatic photo shoot.

It'd be particularly great to see some high profile books that are genuinely fresh to market (or at least in many many decades) as opposed to yet more recycled books.

Oh absolutely! Not the same old high profile stuff but the seldom seen western, teen and funny animal titles!

  7. I didn't have any Aquaman comics below #11 as a kid but I was still somehow aware that Aquaman had appeared in several issues of Showcase. I must therefore have seen one or more of these house ads somewhere:

I am very pleased of course to have copies of these issues in my present day collection:
