So the finest copies of Action #1 known to exist (generally accepted knowledge in the hobby which copies they are) don't count for consideration of value because they haven't been sold at auction recently? That's a weird stance to take. There's literally no one that would argue an ultra high grade copy of Amazing Fantasy #15 is anywhere near as valuable as the finest known copies of Action #1.

Sure a private transaction is a transaction.
But until we get a like for like PUBLIC sale, that is is subject to mass market participation and scrutiny , it is simply not the same. Gossip amongst a few guys in the hobby is not anywhere close to being the same , sorry.

Buyers of huge collectibles know others that buy/sell like items. When Joe sells Dave his $100M Picaso, others that know Joe and Dave may have some insight and are thus influenced. It drives value or sets value whether they tell 8 people or 8 billion people.

Private or public, a transaction is a transaction. Doesn't matter the name attached to the widget. Could be the Hope Diamond, or a Hostess Ho-Ho. And if you swim in any circle where items sell privately, it drives your desires and impressions for similar items that you buy/sell publicly.

According to GPA, there are 32 copies of AF15 for sale, there may be single pages in that total. That would be CGC graded copies only. Pretty easy to find one and make a deal relative to the GA Mega keys. There is 1 AC1 copy today, one coverless copy of BAT1, 0 copies of CAP1, and 1 copy of TEC27. A solid argument could be made for supply pushing demand.

Saw a Facebook post that I found interesting. Collectors had focused on a 1-20 run of FF, signed by Stan Lee. Then, they focused on the highest graded copy of each. Years of searching and all that goes with that, until the goal was reached. The post says that they are going up for auction soon on Connect or Clink.

How many copies of AF15 traded hands last year? The past 5 years?
How many copies of AC1, Bat1, Cap1, TEC27 traded hands last year?
Very little opportunity for any collector to get one of those GA Mega keys. Comparably, lots of opportunity to score an AF15. For many, those GA books are virtually unobtainable whereas the AF15 could be had for a fraction of the price.

Picked up a small-ish original owner collection this week, mainly kung fu related books from the 70's (Master of Kung Fu, Iron Fist, Karate Kid, Richard Dragon, etc...). I was excited it contained an Iron Fist #14 in FN and a beater Marvel Special Edition #15. I started bagging/boarding under stronger light and low and behold, it looks like someone was drawing a and had this book, of all books, underneath it.... smh.
Talk about PERSONAL collection... can something like this press out?

Any MLJ winners tonight? Those Blue Ribbons were going crazy, even the ones with brittle pages, restored, qualified etc. I won the #16 strangely on the cheap but came in underbidder on a whole bunch of the pricier ones.
I was but a casual observer for those beauties. I tried for the pair of DS's, without success.

I was lucky enough to snag my copy of Going Steady #12 a few years ago from an eBay listing for a random group of romance books.
Nice. The way we all like to find them

Those experienced and trusted clean and press folk could really be put to the test here.
I would think that the notes would say "breaks color" on books in this grade range. Has cgc verbiage changed over the years?
I seem to recall that CCS once offered a prescreen on a CGC graded book, to see if it would get a grade bump..??

This was one of the top Baker books I was looking to finally get.
Paid through the nose, but I don't know when I would get another chance again.
I was guessing it would go for between $1000 and $1500.00.
Congratulations.
I am sure that more than a few of us were trying to win this copy.
