  1. Do you have a link? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Batman-1-CGC-5-unrestored-Bob-Kane-1940-Golden-Age-DC-/291365690741?nma=true&si=cZfIQ%252BnOLpGNt49eEQIdRUjKIU0%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Interesting that all but the winner were relatively low fb bidders. I am a little surprised that the book wasn't grade a 1.0. Too much missing but I see books in the low end all over the place, I had a buddy of mine that got a .5 on a Superman 3 that was complete with nice paper and only a full spine split, it was sad but they killed the book. This is a 1.0 and only that. That being said I thought the price was a bit low and certainly more reasonable then some other copies I have seen lately. James G
  2. If anyone has a centerfold for Marvel Mystery 57 or a coverless Batman 12 please let me know James G
  3. Detective 37 missing first two wraps. Thanks! This was a pretty good buy for $375. Win for whomever got it. Hope it was somebody here. Really how do you figure? There was 15% added to the $375 hammer price, plus shipping. The 80 was missing the CF. The only real value is the 37 and 45 but I don't know what the "value" of either would be in thier current state unless someone needed a CF to complete a book. Maybe its a hard 500-700 total if you find buyers wiling to pay $100 or so for a coverless tec 76... I wouldn't James G
  4. Bought a few parts from him, no problems all the way around. Thanks James G
  5. Certainly looks a lot better, I would be bothered by the fact that the cover seems to be attached now and it wasn't before. The label color doesn't bother me, but honestly I wasn't interested in it in the blue holder and I was interested in it in the green holder, I didn't even realize it was the same book.... James G
  6. The numbers are almost the same for total graded copies. The tec is certainly hard to get in high grade. Action 35 Blue 1 Green 27 Purple Detective 30 Blue 1 Green 31 Purple. That being said I know that some of the .5 and 1./1.5 copies of Detective 27 have been restored so it is possible they are listed twice. I always felt it was pretty well accepted that the Detective 27 was rarer and that action 1 just had an edge with demand. James G
  7. I have to admit that I was a little surprised about the Tec 36 price being so high, but then again, nothing surprises me in the Pre-Robin Tec world anymore. As for the Tec 27, possibly the fact that it was incomplete and didn't have the best page quality kept it under 30k. I think that is pretty close to the mark price wise. There just isn't anything available in any type of lower price range. The 6.5 Extensive went for 107+ and I think that is pretty close to the buy in price for any complete copy. I think a nice interior would bring 40K range.. At this point it seems there are 3 or 4 action 1 for every detective 27 we are seeing. James G
  8. Anyone have an action 38 centerfold plmk James G
  9. Ok so if i understand right. There are 100 different stamps in around 311 books which means the same stamp was sometimes in more then one book correct? Is the stamp from hulk 181 in any other books. I have always wondered why it is so often missing. James G
  10. Better question is who did the resto work... Today I would leave that book alone but in the 90s resto wasn't so taboo.... James G
  11. Well as a whole it may not be "worth" it however getting most of a Batman 1 for 3K is a near impossible task these days. We have seen copies missing the covers and 1st wrap sell for over 5K with brittle pages. The problem I see with this copy is that it got hit by water as some of the colors have bleed and it has rust at the staple points. The good aspect is it has the 2 most important pages and it could be cleaned up and pieced out for a profit. That being said I need that first page to complete my copy so if the winner is reading this please contact me if it is for sale or trade. Thanks James G
  12. Yea Yea I know all this :-P The historical significance of Marvel Comics #1 doesn't seem to be helping that book at all. You can say it launched the Marvel universe and without it there is no Cap 1. Regardless this has been talked about at length in other threads. I realize the importance of Superman #1 I just don't value it as high as others and I wonder how much of the mystic around it is completely fulled by the rarity factor.. James G
  13. None of the other big-time GA books have the combination Cap #1 has: *No.1 issue of a series devoted to that specific superhero. *First appearance of a classic superhero. *Origin of a classic superhero. *First appearance of that superhero's arch nemesis (Red Skull). *Classic cover. *Impressive cover artistically/visually. Action #1 -- an anthology series, one hero story, classic but artistically simple cover. Tec #27 -- an anthology series, one hero story, no origin whatsoever. Superman #1 -- no 1st app., mostly reprinted material, no notable villains. Batman #1 -- not the 1st app., of the title character. Marvel #1 -- No top-tier characters, no noteworthy villains. In those respects, no other GA book is in Cap #1's league. And the combination of factors listed above are, to me, much more than "Oh yeah, that's neat" kind of stuff. The above doesn't really work because of several factors. First off Batman 1 is very important as it introduces perhaps the most famous villain ever in the Joker with Catwoman to boot. Also all the books are not equally rare so that impacts things greatly. The real question is if all the books were equally rare (taking the Rarity out of Superman 1) where would they rank. Personally I think Superman 1 is an over rated book and if it wasn't "rare" I think it would be talked about in a very different way. Yes it has a great cover but it's all reprints. The big appeal problem is overall world desire. Superman is probably the best known superhero with Batman and Spider man close behind, where is Captain America in the world market. Cap is a very US centered book much like G I JOE is very US centered as such it makes it harder to appeal to people outside the US. To me this is one of the big problems with Cap 1 ever competing with Action 1 or Tec 27. I do think it is the Golden Age Marvel book to own and of course it came at a time when I no longer have a copy ( I would gladly trade my coverless Marvel 1 towards a cap1) . Time will tell when people start to sell all the copies they have been holding onto and if the prices drop or go up. I agree with a previous poster in that I think this last group of sales are a bit ahead of the pack and I look forward to the next round to see if the prices stay at this high level, drop or god for bid go up again. James G
  14. Was this a new find or did you manage to pull it out of a collection. Great copy and exactly what i had been looking for before i got my restored copy. Congrats James G
  15. What were the particulars on this book? I don't see it in the CC results? Grade? Resto? Final price? 7.5 slight (though probably on the slight/mod side) Price? Trimmed? Here you go Bill: http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=539234 To me that book has more work the slight. The interior lightened should push it even if the CT and spine split are minor. Great looking copy but a dead character and he doesn't even appear in costume until the next issue. All that said for around 20K that seems like a deal considering what all the other major keys are going for, it's just a demand factor right now. James G
  16. This is my current copy, god do I miss my 1.0 married cover.... :-( James G
  17. I think all the cap 1s in that auction went for super strong prices. A restored trimmed faded incomplete taped up POS for almost 10K. That is nuts. I want a copy pretty bad but I an't dumb. Great and amazing caps above!!! James G
  18. I just came across a Transformers 8 2nd printing. I wasn't aware they reprinted any of those issues... There are 3 copies graded. James G
  19. That Fish piece and article is awesome. I had no idea he did so much other wok. Is there any type of full list of everything he did at least cover wise. This is a great thread. James G
  20. My kind of books especially the 35. Man I am starting to think a large part of the pre Robin books are owned by only a select few that hoard them.... James G
  21. price point on the #27 is probably moving up too fast to be frozen as "a point" in a survey. Actually. 27 is probably the most steady right now. Pretty much 80-85k a point for low to mid. Still forgot 28 :-P So i will ask. What do you think detective 28 is per point. What about 38 as well. James G
  22. and you forgot 27 and 28 among other non bat covers James G
  23. Is there a good listing of info on all the Dawn books. Needless to say overstreet is lacking in both information and listings. James G
  24. Wait WHAT..... Who the hell did that. What purpose would that even serve..... James G
  25. Nice books fast shipping thanks James G
