  1. It appears the doctor has a better view than us
  2. Lots of coronavirus talk. An artist contest going on that’s pretty cool
  3. Blasphemy. No prisoners. May the thunderbolts begin
  4. And now for something completely different. has anyone ever actually laid eyes on “this beautiful desk”? It’s “a neutral blue-green - trimmed in black and silver - made of sturdy fibre board”. I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking a desk this beautiful and durable should cost $100! but no, you fool! Only a dollar! seriously, anybody ever seen this out in the world? hey @Robot Man
  5. here’s a good’n. Brittle pages and 2 missing centerfolds for the low low price of $50k. And, I kid you not, it’s got 50 watchers https://www.ebay.com/itm/1941-CAPTAIN-AMERICA-COMICS-ISSUE-1-UNRESTORED-CGC-GRADED-5/333583312074?hash=item4dab1d64ca:g:nxkAAOSwjdReoy38
  6. everything is crazy now. Dogs with cats, cats with dogs. I'm going to say $90k
  7. I didn’t realize umtil your post that this is the exact same book for sale on eBay now for $155k
  8. I know it. I was the underbidder, but I just guess I couldn't work enough enthusiasm up for the book. My Bat 1 has eye appeal as good or better, so the emotion I need to push me over the top was simply lacking. The reconfiguration of my finances to accommodate the purchase was just a bridge too far.
  9. oh, that's very possible. I just found it odd that CGC in their grader notes called it a subscription crease when I didn't think books were distributed that way in 1940.
  10. Thanks. I was confused about the line up the front cover. The graders notes described it as "heavy subscription crease", but I didn't think comics got mailed out folded in half until the 50s, at the earliest. So alternatively, I thought that maybe this book was on top of a bundle secured by a wire or string, thereby causing the damage. I hadn't considered a paint and scrape.
  11. Wait. Are you and @bluechip about to smoke the peace pipe!!??
  12. I’m happy to get a detached centerfold. It brings the grade down a couple points, getting me a high grade looking book for not high grade money. rusted staples are a different matter. I don’t believe encapsulation stops the spread. CGC told me that encapsulation stops the spread of foxing. @Gotham Kid has said encapsulation stops the damage tape can cause paper. I’ve never heard encapsulation stops the migration of rust, so I tend to avoid books w rusty staples
