I guess I should have picked up a copy of this one earlier.
I'm a huge Bergey fan but not exactly a fan of his Bug Eyed Monster and raygun stuff, but I do want this girlie in my collection.
This was the interesting issue in the auction for me, though, "batman prototype" sort of cover with Mary Roberts Rinehart
Some low (to my eyes) prices for weird menace tonight, getting dinged for resto? Sure looks like that's happening to me. If so, there could be a world of hurt going on amongst the collectors that have been paying dearly for those and the Spicy lines (I'm assuming these are the same group of collectors...) Maybe it was just a quiet Sunday night
A bit of resto or no, 90 bucks seems like quite a deal for this one:
It'll probably show up cracked out and priced at 500 bucks on eBay in the next week or so
The auction alert hit my phone but I was driving I would have bid higher on that, I've been eyeballing a less nice copy of that dime mystery from Dave smith for ages.

A pulp art book from the 90s used a simple pricing indicator I like. It was 1 to 5 dots, 1 being cheap fodder and 5 being top books. It works nicely because even as prices go up or down, you can still use it to get a ballpark value when you compare a book you're looking a few other different books that sold recently with the same number of dots to get a ballpark idea of the comparative value. Plus it doesn't get outdated as quickly.
Obviously doesn't work with extreme outliers like the first shadow, but if you're in the market like that you don't need a price guide to begin with.

Cool, there are already 10 copies of that have been graded!
Makes me wonder what the most graded pulp is. Skimming around, March 1950 Startling stories (witch cover) is at 18. First planet stories is at 17.

Yah some fun results so far, the all story's did all right, the doc savages seemed a little soft. I would have tried for a few but it's not worth it unless its a big book with HA's fees

I'm curious on people's thoughts on pulp PQ and whether "Cream" pages will become a collectability dividing line like it has become in comics or whether it's so prevalent that it will have to be acceptable for anyone who wants to own more than a tiny pulp collection.
Reposting this, it's a pair of early 40s amazing stories. One of my unrelated submissions got white pages, and they are pretty, but scanning various pulp slabs I've only seen a few with white pages so it would be tough to aim for that imp.

Got my second submission. Very happy with it. Also came back a bit better than I expected. Got it from Dave Smith years ago. My best grade Yakima. How often do you see white pages on a pulp?
This one also moves around in the slab due to the thickness. I contacted CGC and they noted that the process is new and they are working out the kinks. I suggested putting the thinner ones in a comic slab.
Was chatting with a comic shop owner today about yakimas. Said he bought half the books, and sold most, but still has some nicer ones buried away in his attic (late 30s). Sadly not interested in selling 😞

All I really see is that people coming into pulps are mimicking what seems to have been somewhat common pulp collecting practices, namely cover/genre chasing. I wouldn't mind a decent copy of Marvel Science Stories Aug 38, but not at $300. Wave a nice uncanny tales under my nose at that price and I'd probably have to go look for my wallet.

They were still figuring things out. Brain in a vat? Meh. Girl in a test tube?

I'm always curious what the etiquette on this is. I feel kind of funny doing it. At the same time I feel funny looking up values in-store. And then there's the fact that I'll check comics against the scanner's wantlist, too.
I tend to just take a very quick picture and looking up later even though I don't think any of it does any harm. Same thing with records since sometimes it's nice to listen to an album I'm curious about before buying. I'll usually walk out of a good used record store with a stack of four or five but 10 or 20 pictures of albums to check out.
I feel like it would be rude to scan ebay while browsing, but sometimes I'll just tell the owner I'm not familiar with the comics or books and want to look them up later to see if I need them. I try to be polite and respectful, and haven't had any issues where it got awkward. 😀

Those Lovecraft Bart's look pretty good. Any fresh copy that has a good spine and colors and the main cover image uncreased is worth $50 retail, going up in inverse square to the lack of creases and wear.
Just lucky with a bookstore, owner said he picked these up a while ago and is losing money since no one is buying them.
If you dont mind me asking, are any of these worth grabbing? Was planning to check ebay once I get in front of a desktop but figure you guys are more knowledgeable.
